The Adam Rippon Good News Thread

"Don't read the comments" alert!
VP Mike Pence was so stung by Adam Rippon’s criticism that he tried to set up a conversation with him. Not backing down, Rippon refused. My @usatodaysports exclusive on the bizarre battle between the VP of the United States — and a figure skater.

Just heard he snubbed the VP Pence of the United States when asked to pose for a photo op! Rippon has no love lost due to stance of "Mr. Religion" and his stance on gay rights! :40beers: :respec: :saint:

LOL, check out Gus Kenworthy's IG and IG stories.

He is walking through the holding area of the Opening Ceremony and searching for Adam... "Adam? Adam? Adam?" LOL They finally meet hug and kiss.

I love seeing "us" finally being comfortable being open and who we are without being in the closet!!!

He's even with Mirai Nagasu in one of them.

I guess we need to thanks George "W" Bush and his admin. for their "Jihad" back in 2004! For political purposes, they were so against Gay Marriage; now it seems it backfired and accelerated acceptance! That's Republicans for you; always overplaying their hand! It's all on us when they run the works from coast to coast with such evil intent behind their motives of governance! :wall: :COP: :duh: :kickass: :lynch: :revenge:

Very nice interview with CQ. Also contains very nice pics!

Do you have any opinions about the opening ceremony uniforms you get to wear this year?

Maybe if this were my fifth Olympic Games, I'd say, "Oh, I wish it were like this, or like that." But honestly, at this point in my life, if they said, "Here's your opening ceremony outfit," and then handed me a piece of rope and some broken sticks and a trash bag, I'd be like, "IT'S GORGEOUS. I'LL MAKE IT WORK."

Oh, Adam... https://twitter.com/Adaripp/status/962523725412188160 :D
I’ve been bleaching my teeth for the past few days and now the wind that I create from just talking makes them hurt. Like, I think this is a sign that I’m officially ready for my Olympic debut.

In the answers somebody posted this gem:
Adam, highlight of my day was when it dawned me that YOU were the amazing kid that tried to teach me to skate when you were 12 ... do you remember? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiH5jSfQteo&sns=em … Congratulations on all you have done and will do! Hope your teeth feel better!
Awwww Baby Adam! Too cute! (In case the link in the quote doesn't work properly: https://youtu.be/iiH5jSfQteo)

Adam was the first skater to be interviewed on NBCSN's Olympic Ice show yesterday by Scott Hamilton & Liam McHugh (geoblocked outside the U.S.): https://www.nbcolympics.com/video/adam-rippon-his-olympic-debut-was-worth-wait

His mom, Kelly, was interviewed for this article: http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/a47860/adam-rippon-mom-kelly-rippon-interview/

His younger brother and sister were interviewed for a feature article in his hometown's local paper: http://thetimes-tribune.com/sports/still-just-adam-fame-success-hasn-t-changed-rippon-1.2301267
Excerpts:
Brady Rippon, 24, has been on the ice in skates only a handful of times.
As he sat in the stands at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York, in November during the 2017 Skate America competition, he could feel his palms start to sweat. He stared at the ice, and there was Adam, every eye in the historic building, and the literal spotlight, on him.
“I sort of figured I would be prepared for it, because I’ll watch it live on TV when he competes,” Brady said. “But being there, in person, is just so different. I think when I saw him do his short program, it was the most tense I had ever been. ... It gave me a huge sense of the gravity of these moments and the incredible pressure that goes with these competitions.”
The oldest of Adam’s younger brothers, 26-year-old Tyler, is a law student at the University of Indiana. Brady is a graduate student at Columbia University. The two sisters, Jordan, 21, and Dagny, 19, are college students, an accomplished artist at Millersville University and a business administration major at the University of Scranton, respectively. Youngest brother Sawyer, 17, is a student at Abington Heights, an aspiring animator with his own YouTube channel.
“We were always just taught never to let others influence or make us feel ashamed of what we’re passionate about,” Dagny said. “One of the big things (Adam) has taught me is that nothing you want to pursue is ridiculous. He’s a figure skater; that obviously wasn’t a practical career to pursue. But he taught me that if you love something enough, you can make it work.”

Kolyada did not skate well and he has not proven himself, and he should not be in front of Adam. I'm sorry but to me it's political, and about the quad too even though Kolyada fell and had a messy skate especially in the beginning. Kolyada is not there yet and he should not have been given that much credit just because he's talented and has potential. Adam was not fully rewarded, and that stinks.

It's like in the ladies event where Bradie skated clean and great with calm and precision, but since she's new on the scene and can stand to impr
ove artistically they don't give her as much credit. Whereas if Adam or Bradie had made the kind of mistakes Kolyada, Carolina and Kaetlyn made, they would not be held up.

To me, Kolyada is being credited for his superb potential which he hasn't consistently lived up to yet. I hope this kind of coddling scoring for favored skaters does not go down in the singles events if they mess up. I hate seeing too many messy skates rewarded over very good clean performances because of the quad.

Does U.S. fed even know how to counter this BS scoring politically? In the dance event, there's no way B/S are that close to the Shibs in tech and PCS abilities!

Well that kind of bias against newbies' nothing new! Quite a few years ago at the GP: Trophy Lalique, Maria Butyrskaya was the headliner in 2000, but even with errors & Jennie Kirk skating clean with a brilliant program that ended on a triple Lutz, Maria got the GOLD & Jennie had to settle on Bronze! It was most discouraging seeing such a thing! :COP: :duh: :oksana1:

Please also give us the breakdown on Kolyada's mess of a skate @Sylvia. Obviously, skaters without quads have no margin at all for error. It doesn't make it fair either.

BTW, I doubt that was the only difference between second and third. ;) Adam's superior interpretive abilities should way more have trumped any points taken off for any scrutiinized landing, IMHO! Can you explain why Kolyada's PCS are so close to Adam's? :COP:
