The Adam Rippon Good News Thread

"I said to myself, 'Girl, you're tight,'" Rippon said.

LOL..jajajajaj

It seems we may now be at a moment (like Tennell the day before) where skaters can be themselves and not have to be a mouthpiece for USFSA or anything else.

I still remember answers and interviews from Lysacek and Abbott. Oy.

We had it with Johnny Weir, but we all know the USFSA didn't like "being real!" They actually punished him at one point! They were never grateful when he was the lone winner of a medal 10 years ago; a BRONZE at '08 Worlds! :drama: :revenge:

Friendly request to @Fiero425: since this is a fan thread for Adam, could you post any other video links in the skater's individual fan threads or in the general U.S. Men's (or Ladies) news threads in Great Skate Debate? Thanks.

“I’m super happy for him. He skated an amazing short program,” said Chen, who watered down his own program to do a quadruple toe loop jump instead of a tougher quadruple lutz after finding mixed success with the lutz this week. “He does that all the time in practice. So I wasn’t really expecting any less of him.”

I'm so so so so happy and relieved now, Adam was just fabulous in the SP. So great to see him so happy and totally carefree. Men's FP is so early Sunday morning here it's actually night and I'll be sleeping. I'll be too nervous, so that's ok, I'll wake up to read the result after. But he'll kill it. I just hope he doesn't get too sure of himself.... There, I got nervous again:p

In one of the other threads here, there was a discussion a few days ago as to whether the Olympic motto, Citius, altius, fortius) meaning, "Faster, higher, stronger," applied to figure skating. Thank you, Adam, for telling us what the Olympic motto is for figure skating.

:D Although I might debate the cuter part. I'm nostalgic for the curls. He was cuter then. He's hotter now.

I hope that he's not too sad about Ashley's results tonight and doesn't let it get to him or undermine his own confidence. Ir really want to see him make that Olympic team.

It looks like it if you see these two pics

It might be the angle though cause before this, I never thought of his butt as fake. lol
Either way, he's a yummy. Both his skating and looks. :swoon:

Don't know why I care but I bet his butt is bona fide, that's how skater's butts look like in action. Evidence:

True. Never thought about that.
And we care gurl cause Adam''s butt it's an important subject. All that yummy deserves more than just shrugs. :D

I love your avatar. ^ :biggrinbo

I was just re-watching his SP again. I swear I am in love with this man. I am shallow enough to appreciate his hotness per se. But it is how he skates that makes me want to transform into a man and gay. :swoon: #Livingtheimpossibledream

He's the real song of Ice&Fire in FS. :encore:

Just want to send as many positive vibes to Adam as possible. I want the Olympic team for him so bad and I hope Ashley’s results don’t throw him off his game somehow. I know they’re super close and tend to feed off each other’s success (and sometimes be negatively affected by each other’s struggles too). I’m sure Ashley wants him to kill his free skate today as much as we do. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

OMG, we might be having an unexpected team going to Korea! The top skaters are floundering so far while an old vet's making a move! Miner surprised everyone! Brown and Rippon did not look sharp; both hitting the ice, singling and doubling jumps! Looks like Adam spoke too soon! It may come down to a decision of the USFSA if he's to make the trip abroad next month! :wall: :judge: :kickass: :plush:

Noooo! I have no idea what TPTB will decide. Silly mistakes on easy jumps. The lutz! What I usually consider his best jump! Someone needs to take Adam and Ashley out for drinks and play a drinking game where they have to drink when someone says "salchow." And then that person needs to just keep saying "salchow" over and over. I'm so sad for Adam. If Vincent had beat our Ross by just a fraction of a point, I think Adam would have a better shot at making the team. Ross somehow put it together tonight despite a much weaker season and reportedly problematic practices this week. It would be much easier to send Adam if Ross had come in third. Ugh.

:wall: :wuzrobbed

Remember that one time Ross did great at Nationals, beat Jeremy by a sliver, then got sent to worlds and bombed? Good times.

ETA: Oh, actually that happened twice.

I found this Nationals inspirational because of:
  • Angela Wang's SP
  • Grant Hochstein's SP
  • Adam's SP
  • Mirai's skates that showed her resolve to hit her programs
  • Ross Miner's 2 great programs
  • Nathan's 2 good skates
  • Ashley's LLL program and dress were cute

Well I did say almost everything. There were certainly bright spots. In particular I was very happy for Mirai and there were definitely many enjoyable programs. I’m sure once the shock and heartbreak of some of these results have worn off I’ll be able to appreciate those moments more. For now though...:(.

MRani - did you attend Nationals live? If you did and you're upset, there are many places in San Jose to drown your sorrows, get "retail therapy" or get a little crazy. I love the Silicon Valley for their high-paying jobs, world-class shopping, beautiful over-priced real estate, great food and other things.

That’s incredibly sweet of you to make such lovely suggestions! Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I’m not in San Jose watching live though. Just watching from my laptop across the country haha.

Anyway, yes, I’m a little upset now, but I usually don’t dwell on those feelings. At the end of the day I wish the best to whoever makes the team and will cheer for everyone who will be at the Olympics. They’re all amazing athletes.

So, what happened? I know nothing and I've seen nothing.
Judging by your comments here Adam didn't medal? :(:slinkaway

He got a pewter medal for 4th place and looked very sad during the medal ceremony. Adam popped a couple of jumps toward the end of his program.

Oh.....Thanks. :(
I am so sorry. I was so sure he would do really well. But then again, I was sure Voronov was going to rock nationals also.:shuffle: Both guys looked so confident to me during the season. :wuzrobbed

Christine Brennan has tweeted within the last hour that she has "confirmed with three sources" that Adam will be named to the Olympic team (the announcement is scheduled to take place in about 20 minutes).

I really wish he could have placed 2nd or 3rd overall last night (to avoid a similar controversial situation from 4 years ago). I guess the main difference is that "body of work" has been emphasized much more forcefully this time around and known ahead of time by the skaters/coaches. I feel badly for Ross who skated the FS performance of his life in the pressure cooker that is the Olympic year Nationals. As Adam said at the end of the clip linked above: "Ross and I have come up together and we've known each other for more than 10 years. I was genuinely happy for him when he skated well."

ETA: I haven't been reading any threads here since last night so had no idea what is being said outside of this one.

ETA #2: Adam officially has been nominated to the Olympic team and has been assigned to Worlds as well (both of USFS' press releases are published on their website).

Congrats to Adam for officially being named to the team. Even though that wasn't the FS he wanted, he definitely deserves it. Very happy for him. And some very funny quotes from the press conference too.
Adam Rippon: I remember seeing Nathan skate (in 2012) and say, oh damn, well I'll be retired when he's senior. I guess the joke's on me because I'll be skating forever.
Chen: I train w him every day. I definitely wouldn't be the skater that I am without him by my side
Zhou: Adam is really deserving & we know he's a fighter
Rippon: I'm so excited that my 2 sons are doing so well and I'm happy to be their father

Really? I think he talks too much and it was his own mouth that got him in trouble! He was putting down a marker days ago; "no way am I not going to the Olympics!" Well I can tell you, the mothers of the other skaters weren't the judges, but he got what he wanted anyway with such a poor performance! If I were him, I wouldn't be too happy! He just screwed another competitor; and not in a good way! :scream: :kickass: :plush: :revenge:
