The 2025-26 Awards Season Thread

I haven't had the chance to see Hamnet yet since it's not on streaming and it won't be coming to my local theatre. But I will say I am on board for a Jessie Buckley sweep. She might not be the Irish woman I had hoped would sweep an awards season (Saoirse Ronan, forever sad she didn't win for Brooklyn or Little Women) but an Irish woman has never won Lead Actress at the Oscars, there has in fact only been two Irish women ever nominated for Lead Actress (Saoirse Ronan and Ruth Negga) and I love seeing people get to be the first from their country to win big awards like this it's fun.

I have to say that after viewing all the photos from Sunday night, I think I like Kylie Jenner's gown the most. I don't always love her style choices, but that dress was really, really pretty.

It’s Oscar Nominations Week! Who else is getting ready for Thursday morning?! 😃

Here’s a good video showing how the Best Picture nominees are (likely!) calculated and chosen! 🤓 🤔

If Ryan Casselman is correct, then this makes figure skating scores look simple to figure out. 🤭

Here’s my prediction:

1. One Battle After Another
2. Sinners
3. Hamnet
4. Marty Supreme
5. Sentimental Value 🇳🇴
6. Frankenstein
7. The Secret Agent 🇧🇷
8. Train Dreams
9. Bugonia
10. No Other Choice 🇰🇷

I don’t think It Was Just An Accident 🇫🇷 (🇮🇷) or F1 gets in. It Was Just an Accident has floundered in hype since winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes. I also think that it’s going to look odd if the Academy gives F1 nominations for Editing, Sound, and Visual Effects and it doesn’t also get into Picture. The editing and sound is a lot of putting the film together. 🤔

If Weapons actually gets nominated for Best Picture, I will jump for joy and dance with my 🐈‍⬛ across my living room.

im excited to see no other choice mentioned, that was one of my favorites so far

I’m just now seeing it in some theaters and I’m in a major market (DC area). I think Neon made a mistake in deciding to distribute this many international films in the U.S. and the waiting this long to release any of them.

Halftime break. Pleasantly surprised at Supporting Acting nominees. Ariana Grande didn’t get in! 😮

I think Bugonia is getting into Best Picutre.

Wicked: For Good is likely cooked.

🤯

No Other Choice 🇰🇷 didn’t even get into International Feature! Sentimental Value 🇳🇴 and The Secret Agent 🇧🇷 also got into Best Picture.

Wicked for Good got zero nominations. Not even for Costumes or Production Design.

Looks like I got 9/10 correct for Best Picture. I should have been more confident in F1 getting in if it got into Best Editing.

Here’s my prediction:

1. One Battle After Another
2. Sinners
3. Hamnet
4. Marty Supreme
5. Sentimental Value 🇳🇴
6. Frankenstein
7. The Secret Agent 🇧🇷
8. Train Dreams
9. Bugonia
10. No Other Choice 🇰🇷 F1

So it looks like it’s going to be mostly OBAA vs. Sinners!

I'm shocked that Wicked For Good didn't get nominated for Costumes, Production Design, or Original Song. I'm also (pleasantly) surprised that Ariana Grande didn't get nominated. I thought she would since she's been nominated all season. I don't think she is anywhere near as good as Cynthia Erivo or Jonathan Bailey were. To me, she never showed how conflicted Glinda was. I could also feel this way because I really did not like Glinda by the end of the movie and was happy Elphaba basically said, "Bye, girl! You clean up this mess."

I have a question. How did Avatar get in for Costume Design? Isn't it 90% CGI? I have not seen any of the Avatar movies and do not want too because they just do not appeal to me. I am just curious.

Josh O'Connor and Glenn Close wuzrobbed. :wuzrobbed
I'm honestly very surprised and a little disappointed that Netflix didn't try harder to campaign for Glenn Close. Supporting Actress doesn't have a really strong front runner right now and the bragging rights for Netflix would have been crazy if they could have gotten her her much deserved Oscar.

I think Netflix probably wanted to go all in on campaigning for Frankenstein and Train Dreams.

I’m really happy for Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value) and Delroy Lindo (Sinners). Bummed out that neither Joel Edgerton (Train Dreams) or Jesse Plemmons (Bugonia) got into Best Actor. But that category was loaded this year.

I’m still shocked that Wicked: For Good didn’t even get into a technical category. And No Other Choice 🇰🇷 didn’t even get into Best International Feature Film. I guess the Academy still can’t get over what happened with Park Chan-wook during the 2023 WGA strike. SIGH.

I'm stunned Elle Fanning was nominated for Sentimental Value. I think she did the table read scene well, but it's a tiny role.
