They are having indors EC in athletics now in Torun, Poland. The athletes wear masks on the podium, but not while competing. No audience.

I was kind of surprised to see the athletes congratulating each other after their events by hugging and shaking hands though. Guess it’s hard to break old habits.

Imagine if a skater in the top group tested positive after the long program official practice, so all the top group have to withdraw and isolate 🤦‍♀️
That would make for a very surprising podium!

World Relays are on today and tomorrow in Poland. The World Athletics channel has a live stream. Day 1 action has just started now.
 
Damian Warner won the Hypo meeting decathlon in Götzis, smashing his Canadian record by 200 points: new mark is 8995! He also set a Canadian record in the long jump along the way. Only three men have scored higher than 8995.

He pushed hard in the 1500 m to get to the 9000 point mark, but not quite, almost beating his personal best in the 1500.

Canada 1-2 in Decathlon

Pierce Lepage of Canada also set a PB in finishing second.

The thing is, there have been athletes who have won appeals based on the “it was in the meat” - BUT! - their amounts were micro amounts and they were able to exactly trace it with receipts and verifying the sources. A lot of animal products can have steroids but they end up being in small amounts by the time it’s processed, cooked, digested, and enters the bloodstream. And I’m sure that WADA/USADA accounts for this if they see it in very small amounts.

Houlihan had 5ng/ml of the nandrolone - and the allowable amount is 1ng/ml.

Also, according to this article, Houlihan didn’t order the pork in her burrito - it was carne asada, and she claims it was “oily” - like the pork is oilier than the steak. Um, maybe the “oily” was the sauce. A lot of Mexican cuisine sauces can be oily. I also eat quite a bit of pork products and tenderloin and chops can be quite lean and any “oil” is from the olive oil I use, not the meat itself.
 
Soooo I don't follow or know anything about Track outside of watching the Olympics. I take it by the sarcastic nature that y'all don't believe her? When I read the article (again I know nothing about Track or drug rules or anything) it seemed legit to me just me reading the one article. So that's not really a thing that can happen and she probably got caught doping? Is that what you are saying? :shuffle:

As of right now, I would say that if Houlihan is innocent - then she has been horrifically unlucky.

When I read the article (again I know nothing about Track or drug rules or anything) it seemed legit to me just me reading the one article. So that's not really a thing that can happen and she probably got caught doping? Is that what you are saying?

It can happen - but probably not at the apparent level that Houlihan had.

Think about it: A lot of animal products in the U.S. are from sources that had been given various steroids. Wouldn’t A LOT more American athletes have issues with this if it caused THIS high of a levels after being processed, cooked, and digested before entering the bloodstream?

Also, we found out yesterday that she didn’t even order the pork in the burrito……….🙄 😒
 
Well to "me" it wouldn't matter who it was if I read the exact same article just change the name to Elena. She said she passed a polygraph, they did hair samples that showed no indication of long term use, so just basing my opinion on this one article I'd have the same initial reaction regardless of who it was. Now its seems a little more suspect. But my initial reaction woulda still been the same.

It probably helped more that she’s a part of the Bowerman Track Club. 😉

Can you imagine the crowd’s reaction to her on the track - and the media’s interview with whoever the fastest non qualifier will be in the 1st round/semis and then the 4th place person in the final? I guess we’ll know for sure starting tomorrow night……

She still can’t compete in Tokyo, right? Here’s the press release from the CAS.

For all intents and purposes, Bowerman is the same as Nike, isn't it?

I don't think anyone in the state views them as different/separate entities. Certainly not anyone down at UO, lol.

Bowerman is a Nike sponsored club. Houlihan is also individually sponsored by Nike. Since the implosion of the Nike Oregon Project, BTC has become the #1 reputable running club in the U.S.

“The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, together with USATF, can confirm that we will adhere to the WADA Code and any CAS decisions that govern athlete participation in sanctioned events,” USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland said in a statement.
