At the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec, CBC Sports' Devin Heroux chats with legendary Canadian figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in this raw and uncut interview. Tessa and Scott are part of the 2023 class inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

Virtue added that Moir was her ideal partner.
"He is the best in every way," she said. "More than that, he's the kind of friend that always has the right thing to say. The kind of human who epitomizes generosity and kindness. And the kind of skating partner that builds you up to feel like you can conquer the world."
Considered among the greatest ice dancing duos in the sport's history, they join the Hall following a career which saw them win Olympic gold in the event at Vancouver 2010 and Pyeongchang 2018. After joining forces in 1997, the two developed a captivating and prolific partnership on the ice.
The team would go on to win eight national titles and three world championships together.
"It was about more than just results and what we created on the ice. It was about two young people using sport to try to become the best version of themselves for each other," Moir said. "It was a truly beautiful journey."

I saw part of their acceptance speech to the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame on Skate Canada’s instagram account.

Made me tear up it was so good.

Love these two.

I'm hoping someone can help me - I am looking for an article on VM where they talk about how their psychological tactic in 2018 (?) was "if something negative happens, that is outside of them and don't take it personally/has nothing to do with them, and if something positive happens, it was their teamwork." I'm not explaining it well but that's the gist!

Globe and Mail paywalled article today (January 22, 2026) - Seven years into retirement, Virtue and Moir still share an Olympic bond: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/spo...tessa-virtue-scott-moir-olympic-bond-skaters/

The Globe’s Robyn Doolittle talks with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, Canada's most decorated figure skaters, who retired from the sport in 2019. They reflect on the pair’s spectacular Moulin Rouge! performance at Pyeongchang in 2018 and discuss whether they’ll tour again.

Here's a gifted link that was posted today in the Dance Hall thread (thanks @uandmfan!):
Excerpt:

Now, seven years after hanging up their skates, “Canada’s Sweethearts” sat down with The Globe and Mail to talk about the difficulties of retiring, whether they still talk regularly and a controversial new book by their former training partner and rival, retired French ice dancer Gabriella Papadakis.

The duo – who have been speaking to reporters to promote the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Quest for Gold program, which supports high-performance amateur athletes – also addressed whether they will ever go on tour again.

(Spoiler alert: it’s not “no”!)

Tessa at ~6-mins.: "We're 2 ships passing in the night, but I'm so emotional you're going as a coach... I cannot wait to see you standing at the boards!" Scott will be in Milan to coach Car/Pon and leaves right before Tessa arrives.
