When they were competing before, Tessa at least worked with someone in Windsor. Given everything they've said about B2Ten and all the people they work with through them, and especially with Tessa's previous shin issues, I would guess that they had someone last season too. But who knows.

Virtue/Moir were assigned to two Grand Prix events, 2011 Skate Canada and 2011 Trophée Éric Bompard, having declined a newly introduced option to compete in a third.[37] They announced their music selections in August.[37] The two won their first event of the season, 2011 Finlandia Trophy.[38] They won both their Grand Prix events and qualified for the Grand Prix Final, where they finished second in both segments to win the silver medal. In late December 2011, the ISU acknowledged a scoring error in the free dance; had the scores been correctly calculated (+ 0.5 points), Virtue and Moir would have won that segment. The scores from the Grand Prix Final were left unchanged, however.[39]

In this video of the Gala Finale, the British Eurosport commentators mentioned the sinking feeling that V/M must have had as the season developed, especially with rumors behind the scenes being that P/C were going to win. I'm still amazed at how V/M responded to the GPF loss - they were so bold in making the changes they made so late in the season and then to put aside the behind-the-scene chatter and skate as well as they did at the Olympics. A true mark of the legends that they are.

So the remarks on TSL was accurate and French politics were at play.

Anyone who says the politics were in the favour of Canada need to listen to the Brit Eurosport coverage. It wasn't bullshyte.

Good for V&M for skating so amazing despite this dark abyss that continues to be part of ice dance and skating in general.

I am sad for P&C but really happy Didier's poltical games got screwed.
 
I was just looking at the results from 2006 Canadian Nationals. I didn't realize that V&M placed 2nd in both the OD and FD there.

So close to going to the 2006 Olympics with absolutely zero pressure on them except for what they placed on themselves.

The PTB wanted Wing and Lowe to go to the Olys. VM were already far better.

Glass half full, it did gave them a unique title of the first Ice Dancers to win Olympic gold on their debut appearance.
Although the way it is structured now, teams can move up now without waiting their turn that used to happen before, I think we will see more of these in future Olympics

My conspiracy theory was that Skate Canada already knew about Tessa's shins and thought they would retire after Torino if the went and they wanted the front runners for Vancouver.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure Tessa didn't notice the shin pain until around 2008 worlds (or at least that season). Who knows why they didn't make 2006 but it certainly turned out well for them! It may have motivated them even more for the following years. It can be devastating in the moment but all turn out for the best in the end.

Not even in the ballpark.
Tessa didnt start the shin problems until a year or two later. I believe it was due to overtraining. By 2014 she learnt to train smart and use her muscles differently and resolved the problems.
 
Just bought IFS magazine for the first time in a millenium. Just the Olympic issue because I am so thrilled with how well V&M did despite the adversity they faced this season.

3 Olympic medals... the best of any ice dancer in history. (plus 2 for team)

Tessa has her glasses and jewelry line, now Nivea. Scott has his thing... and hopefully Molson Canadian (which would be cool)

Could not happen to a more hardworking couple.

I truly hope they get into coaching or choreography. I think because of their adversity (her injury) and longevity they would do well.

I know when it happened, that's why I said conspiracy. However, I do think that V/M should have went. I am glad they didn't though.
 
V/M from the 05/06 season were completely different from their 06/07 selves. I remember seeing them in Skate Canada 2006 skating to Assassin's Tango and thinking how pissed they must have been for missing out on the Olympics because they came out and attacked that program.

I've said it time and time again. That's one quality I love about them, they get mad and work even harder. Like I said, losing the GPF before the Olympics helped them immensely and I think losing out on the opportunity to go in 2006 was for the better in the long run.

My conspiracy theory: Skate Canada wanted to reward Wing and Lowe for their long career and sent them to the Olympics. Keep in mind Aaron was the 'team captain' in various worlds events for Canada so he was definitely in their good graces. Don't get me wrong, I hold nothing against Wing and Lowe because it was just a different time in ID then.
 
Goodness, I couldn't even sit through TSL's ice dance olympics recap. Feels like an art critic than actual sport critic. Fire and air? Costume malfunction? Crowd fav? What ifs? :rolleyes: Really? Where's talk about analysis of the skating elements (twizzles, SS, lifts, holds, edges, etc.)?? It's only credible if you get someone who proclaim to be a (former competitive) skater and knowledgable in FS matters, and go on a talk show to talk about skating skills! I can decide for myself what I want to enjoy in terms of the artistry within IT ...

This recap was so disappointing. I can't remember the woman's name but she was so annoying. She was just rambling on. I hoped they would do another recap with someone who acutally recaps the competition.

Well..Skate Canada says they use body of work..not just nationals...From memory Wing and Lowe were retiring but also had so much competition experience whereas V/M were newbies and so would be swept under the rug. The first event was CD where W/L were great. V/M were kinda devastated..I was in the middle as I loved both teams. The next yr at their first worlds (I believe(I am not going to check back)) V/M were first to skate and Eurosport were all excited but said they would be marked low as they went first and were basic unknowns but that they were certainly a team for the future..They were really undermarked in the CD as expected but did get the judges attention by the end of the competition.
 
Tessa and Scott have been making the rounds in Toronto today. So far they've been on Breakfast Television, Your Morning, CP24 and will be on Etalk tonight. They've also been on or filmed for MuchMusic - no clue what that would be, maybe a promo? Also, Tessa was photographed for the June cover of Canadian Living yesterday. Busy folks!

Since Tessa's reactions to their performances are usually more measured compared to Scott, I find her reaction at the end of this performance as a really good indicator of how amazing they felt their skate was.
Without the commentary, it's much easier to focus in on their reaction when the scores came up. I love how Scott startled MF and I love even more the squeal by Tessa (since she is usually so composed).

The Olympic Channel also have full replays of both the SD and FD competitions with commentary, including medal ceremony, on their website (not sure if it's geoblocked).

I enjoyed some of the commentary after the Kiss & Cry, including Belinda Noonan's at about the 3:16:30 mark:
"How about Scott Moir's reaction? You could watch that again and again...So maybe it's time for Moulin Rouge on ice - the actual real show. I think Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin should be up for that.".

I would definitely travel to watch V/M perform in a full adaptation of MR on ice. If a crowdfunding effort was initiated, I would contribute!

In all my years following them, I have NEVER seen Tessa react the way she did after that skate. They killed it and she knew it and ALMOST couldn't believe it. It was AWESOME.
