I went into an Indigo bookstore today to buy a copy of the Hello magazine that features Tessa and Scott on the cover. When I took it up to the checkout counter, the cashier saw the magazine and said, "Ah, yes, our royal couple!" The other cashier then chimed in and added, "If they actually got married, it would be our equivalent to a royal wedding and they would have to close Canada down for a day or two."

It amuses me so much that this pair I've been watching for almost twenty years is now so well-known in Canada that they have become our de facto "royal couple". :D

And they should broadcast the wedding so that everyone around the world can watch it. :D

It's so true. And my people have been e-mailing, tweeting, texting and facebooking me all this stuff about them, and it makes me laugh. Yesssss, I know who they are you fools, haha. It's nice that my friends and family NOW appreciate them. But this is the stuff all of us here have known forever and a day.

I am annoyed with myself for forgetting about the fairweather fans who come out every four years and sell out Stars on Ice. I can't find a decent ticket for Toronto, Hamilton or London :( I mean, I love that skating and Tessa and Scott are getting so much attention but they've been good all along folks!

There is a photo of Marie-France and Patrice listed as Tessa and Scott in the photo gallery.

So I finally had the time to rewatch their FD during the IE at the Olympics while their FD from skate Canada was playing on my phone at the same time (I know, I need a new hobby). It struck me just how hard they had to work to get a program that could challenge for the OGM. The music change was more drastic than I had previously thought and upon reflection, you can really see how much more difficult the program grew with each modification. I think it's a true testament to them and in hindsight, losing at the GPF was what they needed.

I have re-watched their FD every day since their win and still can't get enough. Kind of embarrassing ;). One of my favorite videos is the NBC extended one in which you can see MD dancing along side on a little extra screen. Unfortunately in the video I found, the sound suddenly cuts off. Does anyone have this NBC extended FD with working sound?

In my country there were celebrations for some Olympians in their hometowns this weekend. Does anyone know if Ilderton or London have planned anything for them? I loved the "Tessa and Scott" fire sign in Scott's instagram story and wondered if it was part of a big party but didn't see more pictures.

I live near London and haven't heard anything as yet. I know when they won in 2010 nothing was done until after Stars on Ice then we were assured of good weather. We just had a huge snowstorm on Friday! If I remember correctly, Ilderton had a big parade, but there was nothing in London.

And it still was scored slightly lower than P/C for all the difficulty... Of course according to P/C thread, there was no bias in scoring towards P/C even though their inferior SD received such high scores with positive GOEs and 10.0s for PCSand 3 judges on FD panel gave P/C at least 4 points more (Chinese, US and Turkish) vs 1 judge (Canadian) to V/M

I enjoy P/C, and for the record I think what Scott said about unbiased Canadian judging is absolute BS since Canadian judging is very obviously biased towards Canadian skaters, but really now

If I recall correctly, Canada didn't even give V/M their highest marks in the FD. Japan- who I thought was the one judge who was pretty much spot on in the SD with no obvious bias- gave them a perfect score. V/M clearly had several judges on that FD panel who were not in their favour. Sharon Rogers might as well have had a French flag next to her name all season. She and the Turkish judge both gave them a questionable 9.25 in Transitions. Canada didn't go below 9.50 for P/C. If you throw out CAN's marks for elements like the twizzles, P/C were left with a string of straight +3s (and sue me, but I hardly think one +2 is grounds for uproar for their good but not totally perfect twizzles if even the Shibs couldn't get all +3 for theirs). She gave them 0.25 less than the other judges on two components, which once thrown left them with straight 10.00s. Every other component her mark was matched by at least one other judge. Hardly the judging scandal of the century. I've seen some question V/M's FD mark jumping 4 points in a few days. I should've thought it blindingly obvious by the protocols that the increase came from finally getting Lvl4 on the step sequences for the first time all year and nailing the lifts to maximise the GOE they lost out on in the Team Event. It's really not a mystery.

Do I think presidents of federations should be judging? Nope. The optics are terrible. Do I think the overall placements were wrong because of Leanna Caron's presence? Nope. Do I think it's rather bizarre to be complaining about nationalistic marking after the French (and US) judge put P/C first after that SD? Yep.

It is what it is. The medals were right. The ISU could certainly be more strident in making judging more transparent and more accountable, you'll get no argument from me on that one.

When did he say that? I agree, that's ridiculous. However, it does seem that Skate Canada is terrible at using politics to get other judges on their side (which is a game you have to play). They lost the US after the D/W rivalry, Russia abruptly switched to being super pro-P/C after last year (and they generally bring the ex-USSR judges with them), and Canada ended up with only Japan.

Ultimately, it looked like the tech panel wanted to give all level 4s to the top 2 teams but Gabriella made an obvious error in the SD that forced them to downgrade P/C to a level 3. That was V/M's only chance at gold - winning on levels - and it's kind of crazy that it happened. P/C could skate tentatively in the SD, make obvious mistakes on elements and still easily win with V/M skating lights out in both programs. What they couldn't do was lose levels. I hate that the tech panel has so much power over the scores but in this case it balanced out the judging.

“I can say at Skate Canada we have a history of very professional judging. It’s very fair. We’re proud of that,” Moir told a news conference Wednesday."

I mean, all the judges are Nationalistic in their marks, and I agree that Fed Presidents shouldn't be judging, but we should keep in mind that the context of those comments was a question about Didier complaining about unfair judging - which is just about the funniest thing I've ever heard.

Thanks for your answer! Snowstorm in March... That's something I don't miss about living in Canada ;). Hopefully it didn't hit you too hard.
I remember the parade in Ilderton. It's cute how little towns like that go all out for their stars. If Ilderton does something, I hope there are videos and pictures for their fans living in Europe.

"My politics didn't beat your politics so everything is corrupt with Canada" is all I hear when Didier whines. He did everything he could but his skaters did not luck out in the SD. They were blatantly overscored in that short dance and it is laughable he has the gaul to whine about 1 judge. Take a look at your French judge lol

Dude needs to take a walk.

Bummed I am going to miss SOI this year but I am camping and have been looking forward to that since Thanksgiving...

Please post notes to those who go!!!
