Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

yes....maybe they were playing chicken
He wasn't playing chicken, he was deliberately putting he and his partner in the way of skaters who are supposed to have the right away. He's a blooming nuisance. Any respect I once had for him vanished when I saw his shenanigans a few years back. He blatantly puts himself and his partner in the way of other skaters. It would seem that he doesn't understand the concept of sharing ... as in sharing the ice and taking "command" of it ONLY when it is your turn. Yet another example of SC turning a blind eye to one of their beloved skaters.

Tonight Tessa and Scott created a moment for me. A moment that I will remember for a very long time. The added nuances and new ending is just AMAZING; It's exactly what the program was missing for me. I got emotional watching them skate at their last Nationals and I know the water-works will be endless for me when they strike their final pose at the Olympic Games.

Scott's new costume is 100% better than his old one. One of the biggest strengths of this team is that they have beautiful and matching(!) lines, but I feel like all of Scott's costumes in this comeback up until this point have obscured his lines. Now that we can see them, the images they are trying to create are so much clearer.

Are you talking about Moir? How do you know who was supposed to have the right of way...

I love Scott's new costume. That alone improves the program 100%.

I like the new program. I liked the old one too. But I think the changes make the new one smoother and more cohesive.

I loved the old program but I also love that they changed it to attempt to make it more judge/Olympic friendly. I respect them so much for not throwing up their hands and saying, "the judges have us marked for 2nd no matter what we do". That's easy to do in ID and no matter the ultimate results, I love that they're not going down without a fight and without doing everything they can to win.

Also, my main (only) problem with the old program was that the music cut felt sudden and harsh, which they totally resolved in this redo. And the ending, without a doubt, is much more exciting and "Olympic", even if I loved the artistry and risk behind the first one.

I loved the tango part from first seeing, but today I am watching yesterday's performance again and again and I caught myself that I can not take my eyes from the second part. The new cuts make it all so much stronger and emotional and seeing Scott so clearly singing all the words. God, I do understand why they fought for this exact ending of their career. It really seems more them than anytime before.

I preferred the old ending; "the death" had more impact to me. The new one is too bombastic and Hollywood (I guess that's what they were going for). Tessa and Scott are fabulous, and I've enjoyed their performances and the theatricality, but it's really hard for me to ignore that I absolutely cannot stand the music or Ewan McGregor's singing

What an emotional evening, I can’t stop watching that FD (and singing along too). I love that program now when I was so sure it would never be one of my faves. Only Virtue and Moir.

I am embarrassed to admit how many times I have watched it already. Haha. I am still on a high and my eye lids are swollen this morning from crying last night. Only Virtue and Moir is right. IMO, there IS only Virtue and Moir.

OK. it's rather confusing. :)
Yep. :) Sorry, I was criticising Piper&Paul's behaviour. They almost crashed into Tessa&Scott during the sd practice and the same happened a day later. One'd think they'd learn and pay more attention next time, but obviously...

Tessa and Scott had a perfect skating here. I'm glad the changes they made paid off (I love the FD's ending, the lift works perfectly with the music) and they gained the needed confidence for the games. Good luck!

Will they also participate in the Four Continents or 'only' at the OG? Does anyone know?

No to 4CC. Next time we see them will be on Olympic ice.

Without a doubt, the best performance on both programs I've seen from them this season! Can't really comment about the scores but at same time, they absolutely delivered so I can't contest those scores. Glad V/M also were pleased with them (and kept in promise to deliver performances to fans & judges' satisfaction) at Nationals. :))) Must be an awesome feeling and coming to full circle for them since (I recall them mentioning) how they won their first (in Seniors circuit 2008) there, followed by 2010 OG win and now concluding their last bit of their career - at Vancouver. Bravo! :)

I've watched the revamped FD a couple of times to form an opinion. Verdict is - I actually love both (ending) versions equally. I will miss the older version though. But again, it all depends on what direction V/M & coaches hope to aim for. I totally support that. For Olympics, I feel this version will be received very well.

In terms of details, there's more smoothness in transition from Roxanne to CWM now. I prefer much the reworking in the newer version where the "foreheads touching" used to be. The chosen pose/movement somehow made more sense before going into the second part of FD. Overall, the nuances, changes and the emotion they wanted to convey since the beginning in CWM portion, along with music change, made MR more cohesive now. Only minor comment I have is the chorus portion going into Scott's triumphant pose still seems slightly jarring. But at same time made sense going into the "death" pose, if you understand what I mean. Can I also say what a difference MR made in Scott's costume change. Mesh, yeesss. Matches with Tessa. Agreed? :)

For me, most important observation this time is the subtle (facial) emotions & expressions they exuded throughout this weekend on (both) performances. It was just right. No OTT "cheesiness" in CWM or too passionate in Roxanne Tango. As I said before, their timing in FD will be crucial. It's so minute. This weekend's FD performance was so on point with the music (and skated cleanly). That what made it memorable (and believable scoring too) to me.

I'm all for V/M's fighting competitive spirit going into Pyeongchang. Hope they skate like they did at Nationals (or even better) - that's all we can ask of them ...

This weekend was such a high as a VM fan. To see them perform so well, the fact that I loved all changes they made, and their happiness. I really hope they channel that happiness for the rest of their season, come what may.

Here’s a really funny and cute video someone recorded at Nationals of Tessa and Scott playing the whisper challenge or game I don’t know lol. They had to bleep Scott half way through the video

Wow...so I finally caught up on both their performances this weekend and I’m so impressed. They look SO good! They have not blown me away with their technical abilities like this since 2010 and it blows my mind at how good they are 8 years later. And part of me wondered why I ever doubted them because they have never let me down ever (even in 2014 when their material was less than stellar they nailed their performances at the Olys).

I love the new MR and i’m so impressed they managed to make so many changes and perform it the way they did in a months time. It’s so funny because when I first watched it my mind automatically went to the old music because that’s what I was used to. I couldn’t imagine how hard it must be for them to drill out the old version that’s so ingrained in them by now and perform the new one the way they did. Kudos to them and it thrills me to see them so happy.

On a unrelated note..I normally don’t speculate on this but for once I really did get the feeling that they was something more between them than just friends. Their intimacy at the end of that FD def made me notice. Maybe I’ve been on too many fan tumblers trying to get updates. LOL

They were playing the Whisper Challenge videos in between events and during ice makes throughout the event, and they were all super, super adorable and hilarious. From the ones I saw while I was there for senior events, there were challenge vids of Piper and Paul, Shane and Carolane, Larkyn and... maybe Keegan? (not sure I'm remembering that one correctly), Moore-Towers and Mariano, Gabby and someone I'm blanking on, Nic Nadeau I think?, and Kaitlyn and Andrew along with the Tessa and Scott one posted above.

The FD went by all too quickly for me. While I captured the SD on video, I put down my phone for the FD as I just wanted to soak it all in. To me, they had the ideal mix of intensity, concentration and relaxation in their performance this time around. The new choreography just seemed to flow from one to the next. The FD really highlighted their amazing ability to skate precisely to the music. They did the curve lift right in front of us (sitting at the far end) - it was both exquisite and grand! By the end of their FD, I started to tear up (and I'm not the type to get emotional; I tend to be analytical when it comes to figure skating).

BTW, I've had a chance to watch the posted videos of both their SD and FD and they do not really capture the electricity of the arena during their performances. The applause and roar of the crowd were much louder than can be discerned from the videos. At the end of their FD, the arena was so loud that I had difficulty hearing the music end.

I was also lucky enough to make it down to the boards when the dance medalists skated around the rink. When I made this decision to go watch V/M live, I never thought I would get the opportunity to touch their hands.

The exhibition was also stunning. Some of the most beautiful moves were performed at the end of the rink where we were sitting. Thanks again to all of those who provided advice for seat selection for this competition.

As I left the arena last night, I was so happy that they skated so well and I had the privilege to witness it all, and yet felt sad that there will only be one competition left for us to enjoy their wondrous skating. However, I reminded myself that I will always have the memories of this competition to treasure. Anyway, I wish them the best for the OG and hope they will skate even better than they did here in Vancouver.
