Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

VM were perfection! It's pure torture watching them skate live, knowing that they are always held to such a standard, but then again, so rewarding when they exceed that standard with such mastery as they did in this SD today.

Yes, waiting to see the videos so that I can just relish their exquisite skating without the butterflies!

I thought they were on fire. I was so nervous during the twizzles after what happened with Andrew, which BTW is ridiculous they’re in fourth right now. Yes they made a mistake, but it was because of the overscoring of S/F and G/P that put them that low. Anyway on to the FD!

Videos up on YT. I'm on my tablet so can't link.

Awesome performance!!!

What the hell happened to W&P??
Andrew fell on the first twizzle sequence, and then botched the second sequence and the element was completely invalidated. No points whatsoever for the twizzles. Heart breaking.

Jackie Wong pointed out (@rockerskating on Twitter) that their maximum potential SD score is 85.30. WOW. He also makes an observation regarding their PCS and I agree 100%.

I thought he was joking about Nats inflation at first, but then he said he wasn't. Wow.

I'm so impressed by how these two just never give up and work so hard to continually improve. It's an inspiring lesson I can use in my own life.

Did Eurosport cover this at all? I always love their remarks!

Also LOVE the new edits to the FD..omg the ending was how I had hoped it would be from the start! They needed that buildup & big huge ending with the music, it totally brings new life to the program & makes you want to stand up & cheer them!

Is there any good FD practice vids out there?

I LOVE, LOVE the changes in the FD and can't wait to see it tomorrow. It is just so uplifting and ends on a great "high". I am so happy for them that they did so well in the SD and to see them be so really happy when they saw their marks was just so sweet and so deserving. They skated that program so well! I can't stop watching them over and over again.

wow, that was great, and they looked so happy in the K&C. if they skate like that in the Olympics, regardless of the medals, I think they will leave Korea happy, knowing that they gave 100%.

I agree. They have no control over the judges, so if they have the skates they're wanting, like that SD, in both dances, they'll be thrilled.

It was a long but fun day at the rink. It's so nice to feel the audience support for all the skaters, especially after they make a mistake.

I was surprisingly calm watching V/M...until the twizzles. I held my breath for the entire series of twizzles, partly because Scott was leaning into the curve for his first set (i.e., leaning towards Tessa). I was sitting at the end of the rink; I think it caught me by surprise since that is not the usual view we get of their twizzles. Anyway, they were amazing! They have that indescribable star quality as soon as they take the ice.

Some general impressions: During the skate, the mix of interaction with each other and projection to the audience was amazing. Their superior posture and extension were visible. The complex weaving relative to each other was so smooth. It's so much easier to see live how close they are to each other during the skate, including the twizzles and side-by-side step sequence.

The audience reaction to them was also amazing. They got the biggest applause when introduced. They got a loud applause in the middle of the side-by-side during the stop as well as at the end of step sequence. There was a huge roar right after twizzles, and almost everyone gave them a standing ovation with sustained applause. It was so much fun to be part of the audience giving them a standing ovation.

Lastly, live, their costumes look great. The gold parts sparkle just enough from afar and the animal print looks great from where I was sitting (and this is coming from someone who thinks animal prints are tacky). I hope they keep these costumes for the OG - the costumes are bold and are befitting of their bold short program. Sitting through all of the usual/traditional music choices of other couples, V/M's music really stood out. Now that I've seen this SD multiple times, I'm now of the opinion that as a concept, this is actually stronger than their Prince SD (never thought I would say this). I think it's more original and is a daring interpretation of the latin rhythm. The content is also more ambitious.

Sorry for the rambling. I must be excited and tired at the same time.

Can't wait to watch their FD tomorrow!

Ok I needed a moment to compose myself, but wow chills chills chills. I’ve been pretty lukewarm about MR for most of the season and now I am blown away! It’s amazing, they’re amazing, Scott looks great in the new costume, etc., etc. I can’t believe this is the last nationals we’ll ever see them compete :wuzrobbed Anyway it’s been an honor to be your fan Tessa and Scott!

Well, I’m 70+ years old, and can usually hang onto my emotions pretty well, but I’m sitting here in tears after that wondrous FD performance and their reception from the crowd. 209.82 overall!!! I love the changes to the second half of the program, and got such a charge from seeing Scott so obviously singing along to the music! I don’t want to jinx them for next month so I won’t say anything more, but will go to bed tonight (after watching the videos again :) ) a happy woman!
