I am so glad I made the trip across the border to watch them live. I missed the morning practice but made it to the afternoon practice where they practiced the free dance. It was a strange sensation to see people I've only seen on TV previously in the flesh (passed by Scott's aunt and Tessa's mother on way to our seats; sat a few rows back from where Marie-France and Patrice were at the boards).
It was great to see the interactions between V/M & their coaches at the board. It's very clear their coaches are very supportive and invested, pointing out specific body movements they want to see.
With respect to the changes, it was a lot to take in watching live. I haven't had to chance to watch the links posted here yet so what I'm about to post is the feeling I got immediately after watching it at the rink (so it may not reflect all the changes that were actually made). First, the music edits as a whole seem less jarring as there seems to be a similar proportion of vocals throughout the program and there seems to be a beginning, middle and end (compared to previous edit). Second, the change in music for the ending is easier to anticipate (i.e., you know it's about to end and be ready to clap). Third, I really appreciated some of the choreographic movements that were placed where the music transitions occur. I do miss the choreo that prelude her death in the original version but understand why they had to remove it because it wouldn't work with the new music edit and with the increased flow they are trying to achieve (this is part of the ice dance trend that I don't appreciate - there is more to ice dance than pure flow).
When I have more time, perhaps I'll post more.
