SYTYCD Summer 2017

The group numbers have been stellar this season. I particularly loved Chris Scott's opener this week with the cubes.

Overall I'd much prefer they get rid of the all-stars altogether, or if they have to use them, bring them in for the second half of the season. And there hasn't been much diversity in style this year... lots of contemp, jazz, hip-hop. One or two Broadway, one disco, two African jazz (I love the African jazz routines every time), minimal ballroom (all of which were Latin).

It's over. Sadly I found it to be a big yawn this time around. I really didn't care who won. I think the choreography on the show was outstanding but all the packages and judging dragged it down. I wonder if it will even be back. World of Dance had some life to it. I do like dance shows and remember a time when there were none.

I missed the entire season and am just now trying to catching up through vids. All I can say is I had forgotten how much I loved Marko. Not only is he an all-around awesome dancer, but he has some of the best partnering skills I've ever seen.

ETA: Lex, Kiki, and Koine are 3 of the best dancers I've seen on this show in a long while. Still am working my way through the vids though.

It did get renewed late for this season so I too wonder if it will be back. I like the top 20 format better.

I think most long time viewers prefer the top 20 format. I also like having genre-specific all-stars. While Gaby, Allison and Fikshun can do almost anything, it's unfair to saddle some contestants with all-stars who struggle outside their genre. The original point of the all-stars was to have these dancers who were exceptional in their own style so they could uplift the contestants.

How were the ratings this season?

My guess for the reason they went with a top ten/ all stars is to 1) try to garner more ratings because the all stars have built in fans and 2) to shorten the season.
I think for this show to keep going it'll need to be as inexpensive as possible while trying to keep the ratings.
I find this show so superior in terms of quality and artistry of dance then Dancing with the Stars and World of Dance. Not sure why people don't watch this but flock to the other two shows.

World of Dance had JLo. I don't think most people tuned into see Les Twins or the Kinjas. They tuned in for JLo. Of course, there are some hardcore dance lovers, but most weren't.

Dancing with the Stars has the fish out of water element. Also, it's on in the fall, when people return to watching TV after spending the summer outside enjoying summer.

I totally agree that So You Think You Can Dance has continued despite a significant drop over what the ratings were the first five seasons because it doesn't cost that much to make. It's done at one venue. The sets are minimal. The contestants receive only a modest stipend. The all-stars are paid, but nothing outrageous. They no longer use toll free numbers. It's all online voting. To find a replacement show would cost serious $$$. This show pulls a loyal audience.

They do; however, need to finish it before Labor Day. Ratings were awful after that.

I watched it this season for the first time in years. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I would have liked to have seen more ballroom. Also, for me, there was a tad too much hip-hop and waaaay to much angsty modern stuff. Also, who is Vanessa? Sweet but … I mean, honestly.
