Survivor - Ghost Island

I thought it interesting that the first five people voted out (Chris, Libby, Desiree, Jenna and Michael) all voted for Domenick. Then the last six people all voted for Wendell (Chelsea, Kellyn, Sebastien, Donathan, Angela and Laurel). I wondered if the first five had time to put the game play in perspective while the last six were still experiencing sour grapes syndrome. Kellyn, Sebastien and Donathan were clearly still bitter about being sent to the jury. Angela looked sour but wasn't given any air time for us to hear instead of just seeing how she felt.

And then for the tie-breaker. Hmm, who will Laurel vote for? The loud Italian guy, or the guy who said she is like a sister to him...AND who saved her from possibly being sent to the jury by a selfless act? Laurel had to decide so quickly, it's easy to let emotions and sentiment sway your vote. If she could have cast her vote at the live finale, she would have had time to put everything into perspective.

I agree there are way to many Idols and Advantages. Who was it that said they should run a Season with NO hidden Idols or Advantages, not tell the contestants, and have them all scrambling trying to find non-existent Idols? I would LOVE that idea. Especially since you know people would try to make fake ones to scare people off voting for them. It would be fun to see how that would all work out.

How long would it take them to realize that there really aren't any real idols being played?

I guess I just don't understand why they let strong players get to the end. It's mind boggling. And I also hate when contestants control the game and get super nasty when someone else dares to challenge that control. I get that Wendell and Dom played the game well, but the look of entitlement on their faces when Donathan dared to challenge them was so annoying. This season most of the compelling contestants were voted out early, and I am sorry that we didn't get to see more of them. One of my least favorite seasons ever.

The tie at the end was cool, but yeah. Nothing much else memorable about this season. I think the concept was good before implementation, but it fell flat.

As with the last couple of seasons, there were way too many idols and advantages left at the end. They need less in play at a time, and they need every form of advantage to have a generic expiration (ie: good for the next 2 tribal councils), not everything is good up until the F5. Too hard to keep track of who has what anymore.

They could have taken a swipe at Dom at F6 had Angela not blabbed (for WHAT reason?), but Sebastian was dumb enough to not even use his extra vote so even if the plan didn't fall apart, it might not have happened anyways.

If Angela really wanted to stay/win, she shouldn't have been such a pushover about the firemaking station. It was glaringly obvious that it was in Wendell's head that orange was the cursed color of the season, she could have kept her mouth shut and not switched and there'd be a chance that he'd be a bit more flustered and less focused.

It was obvious to me when Jeff read the votes right away that there would be a tie, considering that he's stated how a tie would be broken in past interviews. They needed Laurel to cast her vote then and there. The only other way around that that I could think of is if they have each of the F3 cast a secret vote for their pick of the other two and keep them separate, in case they are needed.

Anywho, one of the strongest F3 they've had ever. Most any other season and Dom would have won easily. And really, there's some past seasons where Laurel's gameplay would have been good enough to take the title. She was obviously a fish out of water compared to the two she was sitting with, but she made completely valid points in that had she not gone with them, she'd have had a much more slim chance of sitting there otherwise. She could have stated more about how she was part of the Malolo curse and fighting the "Naviti-strong!", but that wouldn't have won her enough points to garner any votes.

Not a bad ending. And definitely one of the strongest final 3s ever.
I feel let down by Laurel - I really liked her in the beginning and she showed promise, but she sputtered out.
I wonder if her partnership with Donathan is part of the cause. She did make some decent arguments in FTC.

I am coming around to liking the fire building challenge to go to the final. If one is going on Survivor, how do they not know how to do it before they leave home? But I am unsure about the final immunity winner picking one. Will have to see it a few more times.

Why these folks never broke up Dom and Wendell and few of them were bitter? Dom and Wendell both deserved to win. I would have had a hard time deciding. But nice to have it be a choice of worthy people.

Prancer - thanks for the link to the article - very good read. I do appreciate how they really care and are thoughtful about everything, even if I am not happy sometimes.

I too like the David over the Goliath tribe from what we were shown. Could be annoying - but I will be watching in the fall.
Love sharing the show with everyone here. Makes it more fun!

I’m so disappointed in Angela. Her ‘story’ in the beginning was that she was going to be so strong from her history, and then by the time of the merge she was such a non-factor. Then, when it was obvious she would be the one at final 6 that could have a chance to switch things up, she went with Dom and Wendell. She could’ve kept her mouth shut and potentially gotten one of them out- Dom (via Sebastian’s extra vote, which I still don’t get why he didn’t use, either, even if it was blabbed at tribal council). Wendell would’ve obviously used his Idol at F5, and maybe still ends up winning the whole thing via the fire, but at least Angela would’ve done *something* and then maybe gotten some energy to go a little faster or try a little harder in the challenges.

Anyways, a satisfying season but I do think Dom played the best game. I think it was pretty obvious Laurel was going to pick Wendell, so I’m sure the majority of the jury already had known who won as soon as they left the island.
