Stupid NOC or Skating federation decisions?

It's crazy to think that certain countries National Olympic Committees (NOC) or skating federations decline to send athletes to the Olympics. The Monods of Switzerland come to mind. They earned 2 pair spots for the 1994 Olympics by finishing 9th at 1993 Worlds; yet Switzerland decided to send no one after they finished 11th at 1994 Europeans. How demoralizing for athletes to work so hard, in most cases self funding their training for years before getting any assistance from their federation, to then be denied a spot that was earned for the country.

Any other decisions that come to mind that are just plain dumb?

That was an issue with the difficulty of getting Danish citizenship, though. That's not the NOC's/fed's fault.

I thought that was down to Denmark's citizenship requirements, not a decision of the NOC/Federation?

Tamar Katz wasn't a great skater, but she was reasonably decent and she qualified for Vancouver on her own. The Israel Olympic Commission should have let her go.

Israel still hasn't had a ladies skater at the Olympics, only Amy Buchanan in the team event.

This was the biggest asshole move...Sweden should thank it's lucky stars that the Marjorov family still skates for them. I would have told them to go **** themselves personally.

Swedish NOC is well known for such decision in smaller sports, you have no shot at medal, we won't send you, it does not matter that you qualified fair and square. I still remember the outrage in gymnastics world when they refused to send Veronica Wagner to her second Olympics in 2008.

The 1998 cluster in which whatever combination of what Skate Canada was called at the time and the COA couldn't get their qualification rules straight and gave up Canada's third Men's Olympic spot instead of sending Nationals silver medallist Sandhu.
