Also, I am so glad Kevin skated well, but I worry what does he do the rest of the year? Where can he improve? And if his next skate has 1 mistake (which is still quite good) does he get down on himself?

He can try to get the quad salchow back. He can try to improve his flip, which honestly deserved an "e" and minus GOE. Or he can try to get a triple loop back? I'm assuming he's doing a 3T+1eu+3S combo because there's no other way to fill the box. That also prevents him from doing a 4T+3T in the free. (I guess he could do 4T+3T and 2A+1eu+3S?)

Multiple guys are going to have 15+ points on him in base value. If his goal is the world podium, he has to upgrade.

He’s starting out with this layout, I spoke to him about it a few days ago. I think if things continue to go well, we will see him up the difficulty. Not the 4S though.

Kevin needs to believe and have confidence in himself when he can do this!!! Don’t let the outside noise get to you Kevin; you are authentically yourself, amazing and the crowd absolutely adores you!!

ALLEZ KÉVIN!!!
No shit. Was it 2 weeks ago at French masters? EVERYONE in the chat said Kevin finished. We didn`t know he was just marking his jumps there - saving all for this. It`s one thing I adore about this sport. We think they`re finished but they find something inside to keep going. Who knows maybe Lucas will be going to worlds!

How can he up the difficulty without a 4S (or another quad), though? He may be able to squeeze out a few more points with 4T+3T and 2A+1eu+3S, but beyond that?

OK I just got an ask so I take it when you’re doing a spin these days and you hop up onto your blade or whatever that is that’s considered a feature now? Because everybody does it

Yes the heel spin is a feature now.

"Difficult blade feature: using the blade in a way that has a significant impact on the balance, control and execution of the spin. The feature must be executed in camel, sit or Layback position and can be achieved for example by spinning on the heel or toe of the blade."

I would think the 3A+3S and maybe a 4+3

ETA- he’s also basically skating on his own in Switzerland. He does FaceTime calls with Sylvia, and he has a French coach that I think visits from time to time.

I believe the reasoning was because people (Adam Siao Him Fa) were doing them anyway so clearly having it banned was no longer going to be a consistent incentive not to do it so they just removed it but doing it isn't going to earn points.
I figured as much re: the reasoning. Glad they don't get points.

Particularly if you can leave big old gouges in the ice for the next skater -

Sorry for double post, not sure if this was on the US broadcast earlier or it’s just an added clip, but here Aymoz talks about his struggles of last year.

Wow, he takes "death in my soul" to a whole nother level.

So glad that he was able to find something new within him to return and have this wonderful competition

That definitely brought tears to my eyes. He is clearly an empath and I hope he can find healthy ways to channel that.

Oh, wow. That interview brings tears to my eyes for Kevin once more. I do hope he is on the French team for Worlds so that he can get another warm, loving US welcome (I know, he's adored pretty much everywhere, but this is becoming a thing with him and doing well at US internationals, lol).

Just watched. Confession: I don't like facial hair on figure skaters. At all. BUT, holy moly, I enjoyed Kevin's skate! It was riveting! Clean shaven Ilia's skate, on the other hand, not so much.

I love the little “Yippie!” out of Kevin I think at the end of the men’s free skate press conference.
