Oh haha COVID I guess we can't count the COVID SA too lol
Nope - that was a fully competed 4CCs - albeit, none of the top teams showed up because it was the Olympic season, so it was just USA & CAN, lol. They wouldn't have competed at 4CCs regardless of Covid but because none of them were going to compete at 4CCs so close to the Olympics.

I dunno with no CHN team at all even a C-level team I wouldn't consider that a fully competed 4CC. There is usually a spread of 3/4 countries even if it the olympic year. I know they were allowed probably allowed to compete and they weren't boycotting but still I have a hard time considering that a fully competed 4CC with just USA and CAN there with 3 teams each. That is just loading the deck IMO lol

It was also the only 4CC to be held in Europe (Tallinn, Estonia)

China didn't have any other senior pairs teams by that season except Sui/Han and Peng/Wang, IIRC. Covid really did a number on their skating program and they weren't sending anyone anywhere overseas.

Not feeling well and working a little bit..l now I’m going to try to finish off the pairs. I’m watching the Hungarian team now….

I had to Google to see who created the death spiral, because I think that person must be rolling in their grave to know what they have evolved into…

skater Charlotte Oelschlägel

It was created by German professional skater Charlotte Oelschlägel and her husband Curt Neumann in the 1920s. Suzanne Morrow and Wallace Diestelmeyer from Canada were the first pair team to perform the death spiral one-handed (the man holding the woman in position with one hand), at the 1948 Olympic Games.

You know, the backdrop for the Press Conferences' is sooooo much better than what they're using for the KnC! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
I'm still confused why the logo is a 6 pointed star for an event in texas I guess a sheriff badge?

Texas is known as the Lone Star State.

ETA There were two USA pairs on the podium at last year's Skate America also.

1st place: Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier (USA)
3rd place: Emily Chan and Spencer Howe (USA)

I was curious and looked at Skate America with international fields, starting in 1979, which, according to @SkateGuard 's blog was the Norton Skate, and with a missing 1984, there was never a US podium sweep, but there were podiums wit two US Teams:

  • The last before the 2020's was 18 seasons ago: 2006 (Hartford): Inoue/Baldwin (1) and Nam/Lefteris (2)
Champions Series:
  • 1996 (Springfield, MA): Lyon/Wells (2) and Stiegler/Zimmerman (3)
Pre-Champions Series. I'm not sure how the skaters were invited/selected.
  • 1993 (Dallas): Ina/Dungjen (2), Courtland/Reynolds (3)
  • 1985 (St. Paul): Watson/Oppegard (1) and Wachsman/Wagoner (3)
  • 1983 (Rochester): Carruthers/Carruthers (1) and Watson/Lancon (2)
  • 1979 (Lake Placid): Carruthers/Carruthers (2) and Heasley/Wagenhoffer (3)

For the other GP's, it's never happened during the Grand Prix, but that could also be a factor of the number, if any, US Pairs who were selected. It happened once during the Champions Series, in 1996 at NHK (gold-Meno/Sand, bronze-Ina/Zimmerman) and a few times when NHK was a stand-alone.

At Worlds, it happened once, in 1949: Kennedy/Kennedy (2) and Davies/Hoffner (3)

Yeah, 4CC's, maybe:
  • 2022: Lu/Mitrofanov (1) and Chan/Howe (2)
  • 2018: Kayne/O'Shea (1) and Cain/LeDuc (2)
  • 2014: Kayne/O'Shea (2) and Scimeca/Knierim (3)
  • 2012: Denney/Coughlin (2) and Marley/Brubaker (3)
  • 2000: Ina/Zimmerman (2) and Scott/Dulebohn (3)
Except for 2012, a home 4C's in Colorado Springs, there's a distinct pattern (coughOlympicYearcough) here. Sui/Han, who won, competed in 2012 and 2014. Pang/Tong, the highest ranked Chinese team at 2000 4C's, were on their way up. In 2012, it was Duhamel/Radford's second season. While there were a few standouts in competition, it was mostly against other countries' B-teams as well. The US tends to be solid in that second echelon, but a too high percentage of our teams fall into it.

What about 1998 SkAm?
  • 2nd place: Jenni Meno and Todd Sand (USA)
  • 3rd place: Kyoko Ina and Jason Dungjen (USA)
IIRC
