Savchenko/Massot Fan Thread

That was electric! I was thinking earlier in the season that Sui/Han’s precision would win the day and they seemingly proved it with the record FS score at NHK. But you know what beats that? When you create a moment on the ice and immerse the audience and judges into the whole of the performance. This is fantastic for the sport.
They truly have this capacity (which is why they remind me of P/C tbh), they did last year at Euro and they finally cracked it with this FP this time. I think their relief of going back to their bouncy winning SP plus him getting his citizenship really boosted them.

I do think Bruno knowing he's going to the Olympics has made a huge difference. It had to have. She was happy, but he was absolutely ecstatic after that skate. She knows how to win; I don't think he did until now. Not doing his job, but the inner confidence. I want them to fix the twist to get to a level 4. It frustrates me as much as it does them. Especially, since Sui/Han only are getting level 2s on the quad twist. They want every. single. point. they can get.

I don't know what made Aljona stop trying for the triple axel, but since they stopped attempting it their programs have had more attack! I don't know if the two are linked, but perhaps they are since they are starting the programme knowing they have a big chance of going clean. They proved today that they can be on top of the world with their current technical elements. I am filled with joy for them!

What language do Savchenko and Massot use to communicate with each other? I'm assuming it's not German, since he just learned it. French?

And what about Bruno with his coaches?

I agree that FS was just incredible! I love that they've taken what were some of the choreographic highlights of last years FS and put them in here, especially the ending. They've played around with it for every competition and it just wasn't working so using the ending choreography from last year's programme is genius.

I honestly thought they were an outside shot for the gold at the Olympics, but I think going for the clean easier throws is a much better goal.

EVERYBODY STOP SAYING THEY'LL GET GOLD! Don't listen skate Gods. NO. They must work harder. They must correct the twist for a level 4. Bruno needs to nail the SBS jumps. Aliona must land all the throws with perfect flow for positive GOE. We must see improvement at Europeans. We do NOT want this to be the best skate of the season. NO. NO. NO.

I knew they weren't an outside shot when I saw that LP. And it's not just because it's so well-choreographed (otherwise, give it to anyone and we're done). It's because they skate it so well and it suits them so well.
The 1st time they skated it I was with a friend - a non-skated fan who happened to watch it with me. She was wondering : "why does this couple have a program that is so much shorter than the others ?"

Pre-national articles
- in daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung about S/M (in German) "Dancing Bolero with death spiral" http://www.sueddeutsche.de/sport/al...-sie-tanzen-bolero-mit-todesspirale-1.3792637
- nicely writen article which focuses on their "masterpiece".
- 2nd page: König is quoted: in pair skating all the top teams on an equal level concerning qualitiy of elements, where is then the difference? We try to fill the "void" (my interpretation) between elements with ice dance. Dean says, that he has the feeling, pair skating has more liberties than ice dance, which once were the avantgarde of the sport, the only other pair than S/M are the Chinese, who are imagening picture on the ice

- in hessenschau, regional public service plattform: http://www.hessenschau.de/sport/meh...frankfurt-auf,eiskunstlauf-frankfurt-100.html
- with short video where Aliona says that you're never perfect, you'll try to be better and better, never stop evolving, everything could be better, will be better
- first video is with Marika Kilius (in Germany pairs skating is still around her, Aliona and Bruno are in the studio with her), Kilius says new system destroys figure skating, she says, she dosen't understand system (imo this sums up, why there is no broader figure skating audience in Germany – nobody ever made an effort to explain the "new" system to a broader audience)

I sure hope Aljona now understands she needs clean and not super difficult element. She needs to rack up GOEs on top notch elements.

And going back to that SP is their best idea so far.

I hope YOU understand that accomplishing a dream was important to her. She personally WANTED to be better than status quo even if status quo would be enough to win. Her capabilities being fully realized were important to her, specifically as it pertains to difficult elements that often go awry. I am so glad she tried and gave it her best shot. She now has no regrets and now that they aren’t pushing themselves to the brink, a “ regular “ layout is a walk through the park for them with room for growth still.

I love that she is so bold, daring and fearless and that she has a partner to support her. I also love that’s she’s exemplary in the other areas of skating in general , pairs skating specifically. If ever there was a female pair girl worthy of being a role model. There are many... Ekaterina, Natalia, Xue, etc but Aliona is a powerhouse pair girl that didn’t do so at the expense of stretch, being aesthetically pleasing etc.

Did i mention, I’m a fan. Lol

Aljona has plenty of stretch and she is incredibly aesthetically pleasing, esp with Bruno, esp in their LPs. And never praise her at the expense of Xue Shen or Natalia, or I will come after you. Other than that, ITA with everything you said. Go Aljona and Bruno! :D

Aljona wants a new SP for the Olympics!

http://m.sz-online.de/nachrichten/geheimtraining-im-allgaeu-3841373.html

No!No! Aljona. Caro Emerald can give you the Gold. There is no need.
:yikes: Well, she can try it at Europeans if she feels the need. But, it would be sort of cool if she had a superior SP and debuts it at the Olympics. That would cement the name of Savencko in the figure skating hall of fame forever. Assuming it was great and she blew Sui/Han out of the water. Otherwise, :fragile:

If it's not the triple axel it's a new programme. Aljona needs challenges-why are we at all surprised?

Seriously though, I wish they would spend their energy on something else. New programmes normally need a few months to mature. On the other hand her and Robin did come up with their Out of Africa long in like 2 weeks and it was beautiful.

It is a high risk.

What does it mean to blew Sui/Han out of the water....? Even a superior SP will decide nothing. Even if S/M lead by 1 or 2 points after the SP (what is highly unlikely because they have never beat a clean Sui/Han SP) it will come down to the FS.

Maybe Aljona has the feeling that the judges will prefer a clean S/H over a clean S/M ( I would not agree after GPF). But I hardly doubt that a new program will give them the final boost. Only a clean 3ATh would Chinese biased judges force to give them the Gold. But this is the most risky strategy.
