Russian figure skating news in 2023

According to Russian media like here: https://sportmail.ru/news/figure-skating/54958661/
Kostomarov's both feet had to be amputated and now the doctos are trying to save his hands.
Absolutely terrible news - no matter who this happened to.

I wonder if his pneumonia was COVID related. I have read that people worldwide have had to undergo amputations after catching the disease and contracting pneumonia.

Maybe it's just denial on my part. This is so sad. He and Oksana have two lovely kids. They just finished Ice Age, the shows with Averbuch etc. It's just crazy to think with all his fortune and family he'd be so reckless with his life. Are there any skaters who've recovered from such an illness to skate again?

Such things also happen to people without being "reckless".

Pneunomia can happen due to all sorts of virus (sometimes happens after Influenza too) and other infections and when leading to complications it can result in ECMO treatment, which often leads to serious complications, since it's a very extreme treatment.

This case was very similar and obviously it was reported on in the media back then too, because like Roman it happened to a public figure.

so I'm not really sure why you find it suprising if Russian media reports on it.

Sad all around.

Moreover, Kostomarov is a very well-known celebrity in Russia, being a figure skater, OGM and having participated in "Ice Age" numerous times.
This story has been all over the Russian media and I've had Russian relatives talk to me about it for weeks.

I just saw a post by Domnina wishing her husband a happy 46th birthday despite everything with a long text about how much she loves him and how grateful she is for all the support.

They write Oksana says only Roman will tell everything, when he gets better, if he sees fit to tell those things. And in the same articles journalists continue telling what they were telling.

Reuters reporting that Kostomarov will have to have his fingers amputated.

He was diagnosed with sepsis and pneumonia and admitted to intensive care and put on a ventilator. Kostomarov has lost one foot completely and part of the heel and toes had to be removed from his other foot, according to Izvestia. He has also agreed to have his fingers amputated, the paper said.

No chance he leaves Kaganovskaya for her IMO... or anyone else, really. They've been together since they were kids, they're very close and they're great together on the ice.
But he looks so small. I hope he grows or bulks up though.

For both hands? Oh dear.

So Pluschenko is unhappy with his skaters’ results at the junior nationals. He believes that both Zhilina and Titova were robbed. Zhilina ended up second with three quads and a triple axel, and Titova was fourth (with two triple axels and one quad). And he made some comments that many skaters from his school are likely to switch countries due to biased judging at domestic competitions. In theory, Pluchenko should be in trouble because since October 2022 there is a Code of ethics in Russian skating and coaches are required to avoid publicly condemning the results of competitions, but it seems that he got away with it. :watch:

In trouble? Don’t worry! We have Tatiana Tarasova for such cases. She is kind :)

Tarasova about Plushenko’s words: “I agree in large measure. Most of our judges are incompetent and evil people”

In other news: Kolyada and wifey have done a photoshoot and now he doesn't look 12 anymore, but maybe 19.
I appreciate the Slav squat.

Didn't Trankov say he did not apply and was not planning to?

I think this show. The Russian Cup Final competition is this week. Apparently Trusova is done as she isn't skating in either the comp or show

Well, she does hate this sport, so.... 🤷‍♂️
I know why she's not in the RC final as she withdrew from her 2nd event. Kondratuk isn't there either for the same reason. Just curious that she's not doing the show. Maybe she's too busy with her new clothing line.

She is also skating in a ton of other shows. Moreover, she is "at war" with Channel One, maybe that is another reason?

No, she didn't. Adelia Petrosyan was the one who WD and she somehow made the final over the third alternate. I read that Trusova's back is bothering her again. The show competition at the same time as worlds, yeah if I'm in the mood to watch skating on that weekend I'll definitely prioritize worlds. If I'm not in the mood, I'll be planning my mum's birthday party :D
