Russian Figure Skater tests positive for drugs - delays ceremony for team medals

I think they're using the same logic civil lawsuit lawyers use when they sue for an exorbitant amount of money. Sue for 10 million, settle out of court for 1 or 2. Except there won't be any out of court settlements here, but they're asking for the maximum hoping to get maybe 1 or 2 years.

I am confused how the reporting today on WADA's position and appeal is "news." Hasn't the case been in this position for several months?

I also don't understand Rusada's position. How can an athlete fail a drug test but not be guilty of any doping infraction?

See my post from earlier this month to explain WADA's press release today...

Basically, they have had time to review RUSADA's full case file that was only received on Feb 2nd, and, so now they are moving forward with their appeal and calling BS on RUSADA and their joke of a disciplinary committee decision.

So, a bit more info from WADA and the ISU in this article.

WADA and the ISU received the fully reasoned decision from RUSADA on Jan 26, 2023 and the complete case findings on Feb 2, 2023. It's going to be a LONG time before this gets resolved. Paris 2024 for the medal ceremony might be optimistic.

Because she is a protected person! Meaning she is a minor responsible for nothing

My q
I believe the disqualification period WADA is seeking would not have been as severe if they had just kept her from skating in the Olympics and accepted the positive violation and resulting investigation.
Russia shouldn't have sent her.

If 15 isn't old enough to be held accountable, then 15-year-olds shouldn't be competing at the Olympics. And please. No one is protecting her. They don't care

So then do you suggest the ISU and all other sports do away with Junior-level and lower competitions?

The age in seniors is being raised, but it does nothing in the case that anyone in a lower level tests positive again.

Competing at the senior level is what I mean. The CAS has opened a can of worms

The real answer is that coaches and teams around the athletes need to be held accountable as well. It's unfortunate if a minor gets medals and placements taken away, but it's the fairest outcome.

Persons just got a bit too greedy here. They had a decent squad but they wanted to utterly decimate the competition so they blurred the lines a bit. That's it really. If not for this toxic competitiveness they'd already have their gold and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

How nice it is to be a minor and not responsible for anything. It is strange that in other sports, minors compete fairly. But doping could seriously improve their results and no punishment. How stupid of them.
This. I lasted two days before I got tired of the but she's a minor excuse. Having little or no control doesn't mean there shouldn't be consequences. I'll bring up the underage gymnast again. You can't possibly tell me that Dong Fangxiao had any say on her age falsification. Anyone who thinks that she was in on the plan or that she could've prevented it from happening, please PM me so I can introduce you to a lovely Nigerian prince with a ton of cash that needs to be gifted. She wasn't responsible for anything, yet the team was DSQ'd and she was DSQ'd from pretty much every major international competition she competed in. It's not unprecedented for people with little control, or in Dong's case, zero, to be involved in scandals but also be held accountable.

I doubt they would have if they had known. Conversely, if they had known almost immediately, they would have nullified her Nationals result, not sent her to Euros, and put a ban in place that expired just in time for the Olympics. And who would have known since she was a protected person?

A lot of these posts act like Russia knew she had or would have tested positive and are so arrogant that they just sent her anyway. That seems extremely unlikely given what went down.

I think people are more thinking Russia knew the doping was happening - not that she had been caught.

Right, but are they not going to send their entire team "just in case" someone gets caught? It's not sending her that was arrogant. It was doping and thinking no athlete would ever get caught that was the arrogant part.
