Russian Figure Skater tests positive for drugs - delays ceremony for team medals

As an aside, on social networks I’ve seen the posters for the big show in Sochi. With Valieva being the star. Isn’t Shcherbakova the gold medalist or is it that the public are treating Valieva as the winner?
I'm pretty sure they tried to turn her into someone who was deliberately injured by Western conspiracy against Russian brilliance. Plus, Anna doesn't look like she's into all the stuff going on in Russia (even if she's not vocal about it), so I won't be surprised if she's in "disfavour" or something currently.

Exactly. Between the narrative of being "wronged" by the West, Anna's lack of outward enthusiasm for Putin, and Valieva's own enthusiasm for the government, Kamila is their perfect little propaganda princess. Trusova, who won silver and has also been supportive of the Russian government, is also being featured in shows and on TV a lot more than Anna.

I don't know if Anna's out of favor or if she just doesn't want to be involved at all, but whatever it is she seems to be keeping a very low profile right now compared to others...

There can only be one champion though. So if public opinion has decided that it’s Valieva, there’s not much Shcherbakova can do about it.

It probably would be counter -productive for her to try to convince the public that she’s the champion - especially if Valieva is more popular. There’s a risk of attracting Medvedeva style backlash.

It may be that Anna's happy to lie low for now. She seems to have some sense. And it's not as if the Russians can declare her NOT the Olympic champion. I do feel for her, though. From the moment she won that medal, it seems like it's always been about everyone else BUT her. I hope someday she can get the respect and attention she deserves.

It was the same with Sotnikova/Lipnitskaya and had team RUS won the team gold in 2018 Medvedeva would be a champion and not Zagitova.
They always have the wrong girl win:)

August 8th aka the 6th month mark was the "soft" deadline. It's been almost a month since then. Either we'll hear something soon (expecting a slap on the wrist, reprimand, or a 2 day suspension, 1 month at best) or maybe WADA will give them a hard deadline now. I wish they'd just go straight to CAS, which they can if RUSADA takes too long. We all know they'll come up with a bs conclusion anyway so why not just go straight to CAS and figure things out once and for all?

Posting a pre-emptive  . The question is whether the USOC will appeal to CAS or will be pressured by the IOC to drop it.
I doubt that the IOC is going to pressure the USOC to drop an appeal. Bach and the rest of the western European bureaucrats that run the IOC are none too happy with Putin and Russia these days.

Mean while the headlines:
Liashev said we will win anyway
Tarasova; it's not a real case
Averbukh: am sure the accusations will be dismissed.
Butyrskaya: without our skaters the whole figure skating will stagnate/go dead....

Waiting for Zhulin, Rodnina and Trankov's quotes....

Love Bute’s quote the morning after Ilia’s 4A. But I guess they claim him as Russian anyway….

I'm hoping ISU will keep Russia out of their competitions. I've been following the sport for 30+ years and Russia has proven repeatedly that if there is a way to cheat or twist rules they're gong to use it. If they returned tomorrow it would just be another cycle of the same. Russia should sponsor their own competitions for those willing to play by their rules.

I have to agree. Especially after the shit feast of the last Olympics. Who wants to see this horror show of the ladies again? THe KnC with traumatized children? Worlds was such a good and wholesome competition after that.

I am and was in awe of a lot of Russian skaters and I loved watching them in the past. But their cheating, abusing and their believe to be above the rest of the world has soured me to them forever.

Just another case of denial and lack of accountability or win at all costs. I won't through in US politics here, but you know what I mean. It's not just Russians, it's a world disease that festers and destroys what could be right and beautiful.

"The investigation has been concluded," RUSADA said in a statement on Wednesday. "The next step is for the results processing department, it is preparing documents for hearings in the DAK (anti-doping disciplinary committee), in accordance with established rules and procedures."

More about the rules and procedures here.

We will never know what went down in Sochi. Passing blood samples through a hole in the wall? What could be worse? Poisoning their opponents. Russia is a rogue state.
