Yes, Canada is a Commonwealth country so there is an expectation they provide security to a Royal in some situations. While H&M's role was being worked out, it was not clear what Canada would and should provide. Now that we know H&M's role, it makes no sense for Canada to pay for their security and they aren't.

Exactly.

And somewhere along the way H&M decided to move to LA and it all became a moot point.

I don't know if they decided to move before a final decision on security costs was taken or after the security costs were denied.

My money is on the former with their decision to move making the ongoing discussion pointless.

As to waiting until a decision was made, had Canada agreed to pay for security, had everything been set up and funding allocated, it would have been very difficult to go back on that agreement. Because there was no statement from the Sussexes that they would not accept tax payer money, Canadian taxpayers, who did not want to fund the security for multi million private citizens, had no choice but to let their objections be known.

I totally agree with this. I think it is very reasonable that the details of their security must be exceptionally private but not unreasonable that taxpaying citizens of the country they choose to live would want to know if they are paying for it.
 
Seems to be a rumour that William would like to return to flying air ambulances during this pandemic. I think he should. Not for the money or the accolades, but because it is the right thing to do.

I've read several reviews and no-one is slating it - but it's mainly getting reviews that are mediocre at best with lots of 3/5's. Hopefully I can get to see it at some point as I usually love those sort of documentaries but the narrator can usually make or break it.
 
Narration is hard. We can’t all be Patrick Stewart! Meghan has a nice voice and as I said before, I think voiceovers and narration would be a good fit for her lifestyle. When things settle down she could probably get some voice coaching to up her game a bit.
 
So I saw Elephant on Disney Plus. I'm really into these Nature documentaries. It's a very pleasant way to spend yet another quarantined afternoon. It's a little cutesy poo for my tastes (this is one of those docs that gives names to the herd of elephants they follow) but that's a small quibble. Meghan has a nice speaking voice. Different from the slightly international accent she adopted as the Duchess of Sussex. If you have Disney Plus I recommend it.

I just read something on Facebook that the dress and the broach are somehow a tribute or something to Meghan. The green dress being the same colour as a dress Meghan recently wore, and the broach being from Queen Mary’s collection the same as the tiara Meghan wore.

Seriously, Town and Country have gone off the deep end. Queen Mary had a huge collection of jewelry. While I have no doubt the Queen is concerned about her entire family, I am also just as sure that Meghan is not top of mind during this crisis that has the PM in the hospital.

He's a writer who has been spoofing the Royal Family on his Instagram account for years - we've talked about him before on this thread. Sorry you can't see it - it's just a bit of humour in the middle of all this.

And in other news, the tree-planting initiative started last November by fans of the Sussexes in honor of Archie's first birthday has reached their subsequent goal of 100,000 trees planted around the world in support of conservation efforts. The initial goal was 10,000 trees to be planted by Archie's May 6th first birthday. However, when the initiative was launched in November, the 10,000 goal was reached in just over a week or two. So the 100,000 goal was set, and it's been reached a month ahead of Archie's birthday. :cheer2:


It's truly unbelievable the amount of thirsty junk stories on the Internet and especially on YouTube about the Sussexes, set up for clicks, that make it difficult to locate accurate, substantive stories.

And btw, Meghan did a great job narrating the Disney film, Elephant. I'd give her 3 1/2 stars or a B+. She articulates extremely well and she provides a lively, nuanced delivery. Her voice is soft and feminine, yet distinct and confident. She's clearly been continuing to work on how her voice comes across. By now, she's smoothed out most of the Valley Girl twang, which was more evident in interviews early in her career.

For the Disney project, I'm sure Meghan worked hard to project the right tone. I've previously done some voiceover work, so I understand the process and the hard work involved in order to make it sound effortless and work seamlessly with visuals. A bonus is how passionately Meghan identifies with the matriarchal culture of the elephants on their treks across the Kalahari. Once viewers get past the fact she's the narrator and get into the story, her narration simply becomes part of the whole, which is the objective. The visuals are A+ superb!

This is interesting. Some enterprising fans have discovered that Meghan & Harry have been low-key somewhat generically posting on Instagram under their new nonprofit name since February. They must have planned to announce their nonprofit and their new Instagram handle after March 31, but the new world health situation changed their plans.

Now that the name of their new nonprofit was leaked and they made the decision to confirm before a bunch of tabloids weighed in, it was easy enough for curious fans to do a search on Instagram under 'Archewell.' There's also a question now of how the first part of the name is pronunced: the Greek 'Arche' as in archetype; 'Arch' as in Archbishop; or 'Archie' same pronunciation as their son's name, but without the 'i' spelling?

Some people thought they would go with 'Sussex Global,' but it's apparently 'Archewell Global.' The new trademark logo is cool. LOL! Two feathers and a crown have some ancient Egyptian, divine, and ancient to modern day royal symbolism. So they get the 'royal' connection in there still without actually using the word, 'royal.' :p In general, the ancient royal significance in regard to feathers is borrowed from the ancient and divine meanings of feathers and of birds. Yellow or gold feathers signify the sun, and Archie was born on May 6th at about the time of sunrise in London (his place of birth).

Plus, Meghan's coat of arms features three feathers symbolizing quills that were in former times used for writing/ communication, which in part references her acting career and her aptitude for writing.

:lol: OTOH, despite that particular account reading like the real thing, I noticed there are about 49 Instagram accounts (and counting) with some form of 'Archewell' foundation, organization, charity, etc., in the name. Some accounts even use M&H's signature logo with a crown and their combined initials against a blue background. So the name 'Archewell' must have leaked quite awhile ago when M&H first filed trademarks. If they do start another Instagram, there's no certainty they would decide to use the name of their foundation, or nonprofit. Oh well, the feathers symbolism, history and meanings is a fascinating topic.
