Good point, that makes sense. I do not mind eating in front of people at work but only if it is not at my desk.

Just thought of something...........years ago, I was having soup at a business lunch. A colleague advised me never to add salt or pepper to the soup before you taste it because recruiters will judge you to be the type of worker to make decisions before having all the info (ie tasting it first). No idea if this is at all true or not but it was presented to me as something to consider.............

Yes I am.

I can eat in restaurants but ppl aren't going to judge me. At workplace they are.
To the extent people judge you for eating, there will be an equal number of people who judge you for not eating.

What a cheerful thought :)

Seriously, decide what you can handle, make your peace with it and enjoy your students accomplishments!

Lol I doubt it.

I've heard that story too. I suspect most hiring managers aren't thinking like that. The most important thing IMO is to not chew with your mouth open!

Or better yet not be eating at all lol. I wouldn’t want to be interviewed and dining at the same time.

I recently heard a story about a law firm that always took prospective hires to lunch. One woman spilled soup all over her blouse. She made a joke of it, they thought it was funny, and she got the job.

My workplace regularly takes people to lunch after an interview, to have some conversation in a more relaxed setting and also because the poor candidate is usually starving by then.

I don't care what or how they eat, unless they have really gross table manners (which has never happened). But one thing I look for is how the candidate treats the server and restaurant staff. If they're rude to them or treat them like their personal lackey, I'll vote against hiring that person, because I don't want them to treat our organization's staff like that.

What were the ones that didn't get used from last time? I remember Megxit was firmly rejected but not the other options.

Maybe it is an interview tactic, to watch a candidate eat to see if they have manners?
I heard of a person that takes candidates for breakfast and ahead of time arranges for the order to be wrong and to see how they handle it.

I totally agree with this - I don't worry too much how or what people eat, unless it's very extreme, but I do pay attention to how people treat others. When I was dating, this was one of the things I paid attention to on first dates. My partner got bonus points because he laughed it off when the server accidentally dumped a pitcher of ice water down his back on our first date. His reaction got him a second date. And the rest is history ... on our first anniversary we went back to the restaurant and told them the story.

Lots more info here about William and Kate in Wales:
