Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Tommy James & the Shondells. They could have Billy Idol, Joan Jett or Tiffany introduce him (or perform) since they had such hits with covers of his songs.

Rick Derringer - from The McCoys, Johnny & Edgar Winter, his solo work, and his work as a producer (Edgar Winter, Steely Dan, Weird Al, Cyndi Lauper, and more)

I think Kate Bush has a good shot this year, she's among this year's nominees

  • Kate Bush
  • Sheryl Crow
  • Missy Elliott
  • Iron Maiden
  • Joy Division/New Order
  • Cyndi Lauper
  • George Michael
  • Willie Nelson
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Soundgarden
  • The Spinners
  • A Tribe Called Quest
  • The White Stripes
  • Warren Zevon

If you go to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, they let you suggest artists to bring into the HoF. I nominated Rancid. :)

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame has musicians from lots of different genres of music. Dolly Parton was inducted last year. So another act that should be considered is The Pointer Sisters. They did two rock albums in the late 70's, covering Bruce Springsteen (Fire), Bob Seger (All Your Love), The Band (The Shape I'm In), Doobie Brothers (Echoes Of Love) and Loggins and Messina (Angry Eyes). Two choice cuts that rock out nicely:

Come And Get Your Love

Happy (Rolling Stones cover)

From that list, I'd personally vote for Barry White, Billy Idol, Blue Oyster Cult, The Commodores (though Lionel Richie has been inducted as an individual), George Michael, The Monkees (though they've said they've been blackballed), Three Dog Night, Weezer, Weird Al.

Also, how the frick are THE GUESS WHO not in the hall of fame? They haven't even been nominated!

While I'm not THAT surprised they're not in the HoF, I'm actually kind of surprised that Herman's Hermits aren't even on the list of snubs.

The Replacements
Sonic Youth
Husker Du

3 incredibly influential US bands, unbelievable that none of them are in yet

plus I just want to see if SY would perform together for the ceremony

Dionne Warwick
Andy Williams
Patti Page
Connie Francis
Bread
John Denver
The Spinners
Rita Coolidge
Air Supply
Styx
Barry Manilow
Kool And The Gang
Burt Bacharach
Dianne Warren
David Foster
America
REO Speedwagon

The Modern Lovers - arguably as influential as the Velvet Underground, in that they weren't commercially successful at the time but their reputation has grown over time. "Road Runner" is a classic - covered by many including Joan Jett. The "Pablo Picasso" cover by Burning Sensations was used in the cult favorite Repo Man, which indirectly introduced the ML to a new generation. 2 former members are in the RRHOF with their subsequent bands (Talking Heads & the Cars), and Jonathan Richman, who was the only constant member, is a legend. I mean, he could be in there on his own, but the impact of the first album when it was an actual band cannot be overstated.

This is an Easy Listening list. :D

Shocked that Blue Oyster Cult and Guess Who aren’t in there.

My three favourite North American rock/prog bands, Kansas, Styx, and Triumph are not in it. It’s more of a popular/commercial ratings thing anyways, so I don’t much care. 🤷🏼‍♀️

They only induct a small list of people each year. So it's going to take awhile to get to everyone.

Not at all. Lots of artists are in the hall of fame who were not popular during their day or had much commercial success. Such as:

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (no gold albums, no top 40 songs)
Randy Newman (only one gold album and only one top 40 song, the novelty hit Short People)
Frank Ballard (only had two top ten songs)
T. Rex (only one gold album and only one top 40 song in the U.S. - but lots of hits in the U.K.)
Bobby "Blue" Bland (never had a gold or platinum album, never had a top ten song)
Laura Nyro (no hit albums, no hit records)
The Blue Caps, the backing band for Gene Vincent, who had only one top ten song
Ramones (only two gold albums and zero top 40 hits)

Laura Nyro had several iconic song hits written by her and later covered during her lifetime memorably by artists as diverse as Barbra Streisand, the Fifth Dimension and Three Dog Night, to name a few. She was absolutely well-known and respected for those covers and her recordings of those songs throughout the industry.

You are referring to my response to @quartz who posted about the hall being about popularity and commercial success. Ask 100 people on the street about their favourite Laura Nyro song and 100 people will say, "Laura who???"

P. S. Nyro was inducted as a performer. Not as a songwriter.

BTW I spent about 3 hrs in the RRHOF a few years ago. That wasn't long enough.

PS-I would love to see Babyface in there. He is so influencial & has written something like 150 songs. He is a Grammy winning songwriter, singer, & producer.
