RIP Harry Dean Stanton

RIP Harry Dean.
He has a new movie coming out in the next few weeks - Lucky. I saw it back in March at SXSW and enjoyed it. He plays an curmudgeony old atheist toward the end of his life.

He was superb in Paris, Texas and in many other films, including Alien, Cool Hand Luke, and Repo Man

He was brilliant in that. I also loved his brief appearance at the end of The Straight Story, his one line (I think?) being: you can here to see me, in that?

Though in retrospect I feel that Paris, Texas may have been misogynistic in its hyper-sexualized treatment of Kinski's character. I don't think I'd watch it again. I started to see some old films I used to love in a new light after reading that Maria Schneider felt raped by both Marlon Brando and Bernardo Bertolluci in 'Last Tango' (even though she fully consented to the scene in question), and that it haunted it for the rest of her life.
