Project Runway 2017

I'm not sure what the judges were thinking advancing Margarita to fashion week. I thought the coat looked like a bathrobe and the dress wasn't finished in the back. Plus they keep saying they don't know what her point of view is.

Unless she and Kenya pull major wows out of their azzes, both will be cut next week.

Seeing how this season has gone in terms of the drama level, I really wouldn't be surprised if they made the contestants make their collections and then eliminate one (or two, as @Aceon6 mentioned above) right before the actual show. They've done it in the past and IIRC it usually happens when the judges make them create an 11th look as a final task.

Yes, the whole not eliminating anyone 2 weeks in a row was really anticlimatic.
All the coats were pretty well made compared to previous season coat challenges. But just the fact Margerita was considering using fur shows how out of touch she is with contemporary trends.
I did really like Kentaro’s coat but winter shorts, shorter in the back? The idea of winter shorts is impractical to start with, but the shorter in the back would be horrendously unflattering on anyone with any kind of bum.

My mom and I totally thought the coat looked like a bathrobe and were wondering if it just didn't read well on television. I'm glad someone else agrees.

I have a pet rabbit. I'm really not liking Margarita and her meltdown over not being able to buy rabbit fur. Come spend an hour at my house with him and tell me how "luxurious" it would be to wear him instead of playing with him, bitch.

I wouldn't use or wear real fur either, but maybe they should have been told ahead of time on a winter wear challenge that they couldn't use fur. Or Mood shouldn't carry real fur. Or maybe they should boycott Mood because they do?

How is that such high fashion? The "winter" shorts looked like somebody ran out of material or cut wrong. And the coat looked like me wrapped up in my pink fleece throw.

And Brandon again - pull three different sloppy layers out of the closet and put them on. Logo's already doing that on whatever home shopping network I flip through.

I have a pet rabbit too. This episode made me absolutely sick. I don't wear any animal products (leather, wool, down, fur) and I don't eat meat, but I NEVER wore fur, even before I had a pet rabbit and when I was still a meat eater. Fur is disgusting. And her dress was hideous (though glad she had to use faux fur). Even Liris couldn't make it look good. She had an I smell something bad expression the whole time she walked.

The difference is the purpose of the animal. Even vegans wear wool since the sheep are just shorn, not killed. I don't think any cows are raised just for the leather.

Years ago I bought my then-teenaged daughter a cute leather jacket in Toronto. She never wore it because the collar was rabbit fur. At the time I had a coat with a raccoon collar....

She convinced me against wearing fur from any animal and she was right.

Many vegans do not wear wool. PETA is anti-wool.

But I suppose accurate info in a thread about the current season of PR is incongruous.

I'll watch the finale just to hope Brandon gets the same smugness check Daniel V. did back in 2006.

My mother, who died last year at 92, had 2 furs - a mink jacket and a mink stole. Fur is so unpopular that I cannot even give them away. I wonder if a regional theatre company would even take them as a donation.

I totally understood Margherita being upset at being told "No fur" as she was checking out. I am not sure she was upset at that stance as much as no one telling them this before they went to Mood. She literally was at the checkout without any material for her design after she was told she couldn't buy it. You could see her panicing. I found that ridiculous. Again, not the no fur belief, but not telling the designers ahead of time. That said, the design she did end up creating was butt-ugly.

I do NOT get the Brandon love at all. Which means he will probably win.

I think that Brandon's designs have a lot of detailing but are also simple-looking enough to be sellable. In that sense, he's exactly the type of designer who is successful: able to charge a lot of money for clothes that look a little bit edgy and complicated enough that wealthy people want to buy them, because it makes them stand out just a little bit. I find Ayana far more creative and her unconvetional material challenges were great runway material, but you can't sell unconventional material editorial garments.

Kentaro has had some romantic looking designs that are more my style - but he's had a couple of really bad ones too. Brandon has not yet had a really bad design.

wool is not vegan, it is not
anyone can call themselves vegan like anyone can call themselves a casserole or the queen of sheba

I know people who eat vegan for health reasons not animal rights reasons. So a wool coat or leather in their shoes is fine with them.

Or is there some official vegan certification board that one must pass muster with to be considered a vegan?

A strict vegan does not eat animals or their byproducts (eggs, milk, honey), wear animal products or use products tested on animals, etc.

A vegan diet for health reasons vs. a vegan lifestyle can be two entirely different things.

Wool is horribly cruel unless if you are buying from a small hobby farm who treat their sheep like family. Google "mulesing" sometime when you are not eating. It's incredibly painful for the sheep. They are not being gently sheared. It's a quick, brutal process.

Any animal product such as leather, down and wool that is sold in huge mass production is a very cruel process. Rabbit fur from China often is ripped off the rabbits while they are still alive.

Meagan Duhamel wears Edea leather skating boots, which has always confused me, but maybe the Ice Fly model does not work for her (I love mine now, but it was a long process to get used to them).

Maybe that's why any sweater with angora in it made me sneeze. My nose was telling me not to wear it. :-)

I expected 2 designers to go and was a bit surprised by the choices.

Is it me, or did they not show the goiter on Kentaro's white outfit until the final runway? Or did he add the goiter in the workroom last minute and I just missed it?

ETA, and why the heck did Margarita add those awful shorts when her model was over the moon with the swimsuit?

I fully expect Brandon to win; although I can't see why the judges think so much of him.
Kentaro really doesn't want to be there anymore, IMO.

Kenya may not be the most gifted designer.
However, she has a ready market; since women representing a variety of sizes are waiting for attractive, wearable clothes.
Tim was truly upset at her ouster.

Ayana is really gifted, and has a unique POV.
I look forward to seeing the reaction to her designs at Fashion Week.

I've liked most of Brandon's designs, and I want to like his collection, but I just don't. I hope Ayana ends up stealing the win because I thought her clothes were not so matchy and more interesting.

I thought Kentaro was going to self eliminate for a second there. It was odd that they ended up choosing 4 when they originally only said 3 would be in the final. And I thought for sure by the judges' comments that he would be out. However, I didn't care much for Kenya's color palette and thought her clothes looked kinda Golden Girls. I'm glad though that she got to show at fashion week in real life.

Nah, they just stressed that only three are guaranteed but they typically take four.

I'm also hoping for an Ayana win. Brandon shows the same features nearly every week and I don't love the bland colors he chose for his collection. I also really like the vibrance of Margarita's collection (which really stands out against the other three) but I don't think she's in the running.

It's a shame Kentaro fell out of love with his collection. There seems to be a lot in there I really like. He seems to have been completely deflated by the criticism and is no longer ready to stand for it. I loved his peach look. It may not be the most original but it looks incredibly expensive and I would definitely wear it for an evening event.

Considering the preview of next episode I'm almost anticipated him being ousted for not wanting to be there and Kenya being brought back

I really wasn't into Ayana's collection but I could see a lot of creativity in the details. Brandon's looks didn't really work on the fuller-figured models. I feel like his looks are right for the old-school tall and thin models, and nobody else. However, I do see how the collection works as a whole.

Margarita... Props for being bold but I just don't relate to her esthetic at all. It was sad to see Kenya go but I expect her to be back for an All Stars if they ever do another edition of that...

I thought I saw a preview last night for a new All Stars season. I don't know that it would have been filmed late enough to include anyone from this season.

I didn't really love anyone's collection. I don't mind a Brandon win.... not crazy about his stuff but I really don't like Ayana's clothes and I feel like she's the only one who could beat him. I saw the All-Stars preview too - can't remember now who was in it - I do remember seeing Helen again. Also saw Georgina Chapman in the previews, was wondering if she'd still judge with all her personal upheaval... I wonder when this was filmed.

Edited to add... found a post on reddit listing the all-stars cast as:

This season is compete rookies all stars vs veterans all stars

  • kelly, candice, edmond, merline (s14)

Animal shelters and rescue groups will take them, no matter what the condition. I've seen very cute photos of dogs and cats enjoying ratty old furs as fuzzy pet beds.

my great aunt had a couple of furs that were donated this way. Fur coats, like leather, can last many lifetimes, if they're stored/cleaned right. But stitching rots and the backing fabric gets dirty. Tatty old coats might be nice for a dog bed!
