Programs that make you feel uncomfortable

A question, if I may, for all those claiming the dialogue with the Canadian First Nations somehow made everything okay.

Why was the dialogue with Canadian First Nations? I mean, I have no doubt they faced - probably still face - atrocities as well. But the particular culture that was being made a mockery of by DomShabs wasn't the Canadian First Nations culture. It was the Australian Indigenous culture. And DomShabs made no approach to them and any approaches made to DomShabs were clearly spurned or ignored. Why is it somehow considered acceptable that they apologised only to the Canadian First Nations?

It certainly didn't help, IMO, with the perception that the power countries in skating could get away with whatever they wanted and the little countries can go jump. Russia will apologise to fellow big skating country Canada, but shoo, pesky little Australia, shoo!

Oh Canada certainly has treated First Nations terribly .. I don’t think that D/S were racists but I don’t think they understood the potential impact either. that dance was very silly and made them look foolish. But not intentionally racist. There is a ton of racism amongst Canadians with First Nations people unfortunately.

Everything about Tarasova/Morozov's Candyman program makes me cringe. I think the lyrics are vulgar and inappropriate for an event where children are in the audience. Why they censored the bit about popping a cherry but not the bits about panty drops, "hot, bothered, and wet," or "Voulez vous coucher" is baffling--plus, if you are having to bleep lyrics from your program, that should perhaps be cause for a re-think. Then Tarasova immediately gets a huge wedgie on the first element that remains throughout the program. And there is one lift where Morozov's hand is pretty much doing a pelvic on her. The whole program is just gross and frankly beneath them. I'm looking forward to a new program in the fall, because they are a great pair

I may be an old person with conservative views on skating but I liked it better when there were no lyrics in competitive programmes. Then we didn't have this kind of debate and no lyrics regardless of content were taking the focus from the skating. I just find any lyrics irritating - OK for exhibitions but not for competition.

I think we can all agree that Tarasova/Morozov's Candyman was not a good idea. We're all sounding like a broken record these days.
I always call it "The birds and the bees, with an emphasis on BEES" (because of those costumes).

Medvedeva ‘s 911 LP. Not that I find it offensive or in bad taste per se, just that it’s such a boring program set to such boring music that I literally cannot watch the whole thing straight without dozing off.

The heart beat at the end of Medvedeva's Chopin SP - accentuated when she had OTT emotions with (almost) tears in her eyes  - who's dying or being resuscitated
Samarin's Moonlight Sonata - just wrong
Zagitova's Exhibition (Olympics and Worlds - and maybe at other events that I did not watch) - she's only 15

I can't help but wonder if the outrage VM's Carmen lift still causes after all these years stems from some very deep rooted sexist social expectations we unfortunately still put on women. There have always been lifts where the women were held upside down with their heads in their partner's crotches but none of them ever caused such upset. This season C/B had a lift where Evan's head is stuck between Madi's butt cheeks ( and there are other teams with similar lifts ) but none of the prudes seem uncomfortable with any of that.
But as soon as the woman is portrayed as a sexual being with own agency it is deemed inappropriate.

Bumping this thread up because it seems to be an earlier version of caseyedwards' latest thread... ;)
It is not. The topic was are Russians criticized more than others on this forum. It is a different topic that would be off topic in this thread.
