It's a lot of political scoring as usual.... many attempts to cleanup Nathan's SP performance in the team event
Of course, it's on Nathan how he handled the distractions and the burden of expectations, but that responsibility which Nathan himself owns up to, most definitely doesn't absolve NBC and media's OTT intrusiveness and heavy 'camera-in-the-face' pressure they placed on a young athlete at his first Olympics.... I'm sure this info can be found in a million different places, but here is the lineup for today's Team Event - Day 3 competition, in case you should happen to trip, stumble or fall into the Olympic teams cheer thread: https://twitter.com/SkatingLesson/

Because although the doping scandal and current situation is not the athletes' fault, there's way too much leniency been shown to Russian officials and politicians. And unfortunately, too much dissembling and defiance and acting like they're victims of the rest of the world, on the part of many Russians.
Can we find some in-between with the TSL over-snark and the vanilla of the Olympic Ice nicey-nicey summaries?
I mean I love seeing Ben, Kristi and Charlie conversing together, but it's very scripted. I believe if Charlie wasn't constrained by the format and having to be nice and neutral, he could really fly with insightful, constructive and entertaining analysis. But too many people in figure skating are so very afraid to rock the boat with some honesty and sticking some pins in the so-obvious politics!!! Although I like the occasional insights and pinpoint honesty of TSL, they too often go too far and too harsh and too OTT for their faves and too slamming of their non-faves.
OTOH, I'm happy for Patrick, and I'm very happy for the entire Canadian team winning gold here. There will be lots of changes in figure skating with the expected retirements coming after Olympics and Worlds this year. But yeah, it was very lenient judging on a lot of sloppy skates in the team event, while tech panel was scrutinizing the Shibs to death, in an obvious effort to keep B/S overly close to a far superior team.

! Looking good, as usual...
just don't need to happen... that is what is so frustrating. It is possible to design a costume that brings the desired effect of heat and sizzle, etc. but can also keep itself in place. Fabric sliding or falling down, clasps coming undone, straps snapping or breaking, etc. these things do not need to happen if the original design doesn't push those boundaries in the first place. Skate blades can get caught on the material, but, really, a lot of these costume malfunctions happen because the outfit is designed with very little room for functionality let alone continuous movement which doesn’t make sense for an ice dancer.

to Team Russia's B&S for the heck of it! We will miss you if you will no longer be skating together, or at all!
Brava!!!
Congratulations to Evgenia!
