"No one knows Mirai's mirai" Nagasu cheer thread

I am very proud of Mirai for dong what she said she would do. So many skaters say they have and will do a 3A or quad and you never see it, or not after one or two unsuccessful efforts. Mirai has plugged away and put it in both her programs all season, as well as the other upgrades, and it's paying off. It's looking big and easy, and she is finally relaxing enough to interpret her programs. I hope the FS is when we will see it landed easily the way she does in practice.

Being in second but so close to first is ideal for her. She can taste her old title and I am sure she wants it back even if she doesn't say so. It is doable. Ganbatte, Mirai!

I was surprised how stingy the panel was with PCS, cause there's usually Nats inflation. Last year, Mirai got 33.15, Karen 31.85, and Ashley 34.68. I think 31.19 was a bit low for Mirai, but honestly I was so nervous watching I didn't really pay attention to her presentation - I need to rewatch. Ashley had 32.94...not held up as much as one would expect. I think Mirai's highest PCS is around 63 from NHK.

I'm definitely nervous for the FS. I know I promised earlier in the thread I wouldn't watch, and instead would hold a prayer circle. I think she can do it...she's going to perform and score regardless if I watch. I'm glad she's not skating last - less pressure - even less going before both Karen and Bradie.

I did not read the protocol for Mirai like a score. I read it like a text message from the judges:

"Give us the tech content, biatch! #3A #FullRotations"

Of course, had they given Mirai straight "8.00" s in PCS, then Mirai's score would have been like 76ish and decided the competition with PCS... and objectively I think it is better that the competition is settled with TES Base and GOEs.

Mirai literary is virtually tied for first with a 3Lz worth of TES Base advantage on her planned element sheet going into the free ... So she is set up to win if she just executes, not is necessarily brilliant, but rotates and does as planned.

... L*rd knows that is all they have ever wanted from her, to do as planned, not be the shooting star she was 8-10 years ago.

I was thinking this morning that being in first place after the SP would have put unnecessary pressure on her. She is within striking distance of first place and hungry to overtake Bradie. If she lands all her jumps, she will get respect and higher pcs, especially if the 3A is clean. I am going to be very nervous for her though.

I felt that the judges wanted to protect Bradie's first place unless someone else landed all the jumps. Unfortunately many top skaters had just one mistake but better performance than Bradie's. Those should have been rewarded. Some of them might have gotten closer to her marks. Karen did get higher pcs but she was the only one, and she was the last skater. I thought Amber and Mariah were hosed on the pcs. Mirai could have received slightly higher pcs than she did, and I was shocked by how low they scored Ashley in the pcs.

She’s been working all season on hitting the 2 jumping passes in her short after the excitement of the axel, and she finally nailed them, while still hitting full rotation on the axel! That makes me hopeful that she’s really hit the right competitive mindset. All she has to do is hit the long like she did at NHK & she’ll make the team.

Agreed on many counts. Being in first would be too much pressure. If she skates clean and rotated, the PCS will follow. I'm greedy and want her to repeat 10 years later, but I will settle for being named to the Olympic Team. I hope she makes a case for the Team Event too.

I'm not sure of the link posting rules - so my apologies if this isn't cool. Mirai was so cute in her responses and smile. "Wow, I'm a cat!"

I am still torn about her decision to go for the 3A in the SP this season. Even if it was not clean here, it paid off so I sort of understand her tactic now..
However, despite the fact that it seems as they added some arm choregraphy, the program has never really reached back to the impression it left with the initial choreography and jumping passes..
I am a big Mirai fan but I can sort of understand the PCS scoring for this program.
I firmly believe that her PCS will be considerably higher for her LP. She has scored pretty well for her Miss Saigon all season and I am dreaming for Mirai to have a "moment" tomorrow nailing her elements and bringing the crowd on their feet :kickass:

I hope she skates well in the LP. Would love to see her land all her jumps, including the 3A. The pcs will be high if she lands the jumps.

I am so nervous for her going into the LP! Whenever I really really want a skater to skate well, it doesn't happen. After what happened to Max Aaron last night, I have to really bring my expectations to zero when it comes to my favorite skaters.

In the pre-ladies SP Ice Network Facebook Live session, Jackie Wong said that Mirai is "not over-practicing, like she did last year." Reserve your energy Mirai and plz plz plz skating gods, do not let her wake up today with the bug that is going around, and also keep her boots in tact!

I think it was pretty clear from her SP here that she was nervous, and I think that both her and Tom weren't sure what to expect when her score was taking so long. I think that she skated pretty tight compared to how she has been practicing, and was happily surprised that her score was so close to Bradie's, even with getting only the 4th highest PCs. I liked her performance of it last year a bit better, but she held up so well after the axel.

Her recent longs (maybe excluding US Classic) have been stronger than her SPs/have had less unders than her SPs have-rotated 7 triples at 4CC last season, 7 triples at Japan Open, 5 triples at Rostelecom, and 6 triples at NHK this season. Even through last year's grand prix, it wasn't uncommon for Mirai to get unders on things like her double toes. So I'm hopeful that she can keep her snap in the long, but also nervous because nationals in general is usually a tough one for Mirai-hoping that a repeat of last year's long does not happen. She said that she is happy that she is not skating last in the LP, like she did last year. At least Mirai's olympic year nationals seem to be where she is her strongest :cheer2:

Mirai is featured (along with Max Aaron) in this NPR article published yesterday on elite athletes and higher education: https://www.npr.org/sections/ed/201...-enough-try-doing-that-while-earning-a-degree
Figure skater Mirai Nagasu also hopes to return to the Olympics — she came in fourth in Vancouver in 2010, when she was just 16.

"Whenever I have a break, I'm back on my computer and studying," says Nagasu, now 24. She's in the equivalent of her junior year, on her way to a bachelor's degree in international business at UCCS. "It is so beyond difficult to balance it all. During finals week I don't get a lot of sleep and I tell myself, 'I can't do this anymore.'"
Click on the "Listen" button at the top to hear her (and Max Aaron) being interviewed in the almost-4-minute "All Things Considered" segment.

I am extremely nervous for Mirai and it seems as this day has been going on forever! It is 9:50pm here in France and I just know it will a night waking up every hours.
I know for sure it will be tough to await the results and I so hope the first thing I will read early tomorrow morning will be "WOW Mirai nailed it!" "Finally!",
"Jumps clean as a whistle!"...
It is nervwrecking being a fan but somehow, I want to believe Mirai is really going to give it all this time.
Does anybody else feel the same!?
