  • Dupayage / Nabais RD is gonna change a bit. No more White Rabbit.
  • Demougeot / Le Mercier RD has been scrapped entirely. They were reworking a new one until last week-end so it'll be very fresh in Bratislava.

The goal is to have more festive dances to be in line with the trend of the majority and with what the ISU wants. Source is Karine Arribert on Ice Radio.

I think this is good news! I can't wait to see the new D&L-M RD. I could not see how the Led Zeppelin was going to work for this theme. Also glad to that D&N will no longer have the White Rabbit.
 
It's not the problem of the music itself. It's the problem of how it sounds among 20 or more musics from other competitors. In the SD, you can go for something a bit on the side but not too much on the side.

Arribert once explained that she had to change a SD (probably this one) because everyone that year came with a recent versions of latin dances and that hers sounded old in comparison. So she replaced it because it was hurting D/LM. And she's very careful about that. But I prefered the first one and never understood the change until she explained her reasons.

OTOH, she loves rock. That's part of the series of themes her dancers go through to gain range. I'd bet she would like that as a SD theme and that she was discretly pushing in that direction. But it's too far from what others are doing, and it's in the DNA of that part of the competition to have binding requirements so that's part of the exercise.

Maybe another year ...

I need to add something.
Arribert's OD/RD/SD musics are never random. She choses and assembles them for a reason. She's not doing mini-FDs so knowing the reason they were chosen other than for their rythm doesn't really matter. The dance is going to stand on its own. But it's there and it's just gives a little spicy flavor that can sometimes question because that's unusual.

It took me years and checks to get that this latin RD was 100% latinized Serge Gainsbourg. Actually, the first notes are the clue. I realized last year that the second song was an older Gainsbourg song when I was working on my Arribert map, trying to gather all the musics. And I went "ha ! got you, it's a Gainsbourg latin dance, well half a Gainsbourg dance because I don't know the last part" which I didn't check carefully ... until today ... aaaaand it's an obskure Gainsbourg's song.

It took me less to guess that this march/tango was 100% reworked Jacques Brel, to guess that whatever versions of "I wanna be loved by you" and "C'est si bon" put together were making sense since Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand were lovers.

She also puts a little macabre in waltz, in blues/swing, in musicals or musicals (which are waltz/blues/swing).

She uses musics about violences against women / women struggling with men and how they can make decision to leave and be resilient. Toxicity and resilience are part of her themes. White Rabbit + Move Over sounds like a variation on that theme ... in beatniks' days. :p

Thank you for uploading for us @Nmsis! I enjoyed their FD more than their SD (not a big fan of the music and I had an impression of disconnect between the music and the choreography. It might just be me! ).
I loved the inclusion of a Breton song in their FD. For me, Loïcia's dress is also reminiscent of Breton traditional garb.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the Halleluiah part. If that's the case, it's in hebrew. It's psalm 117. And the song itself is part of Akram Khan's solo performance Desh. But some of the voices and singing do sound a bit celtic.

So far, I prefer the FD too but I think the SD needs mileage to get to its potential.

RD: Loïcia and Théo danced/skated it well but I feel some dissonance between the music (the speed of it?) and the choreo. I will watch with interest the progression of the RD during the season.

it doesn't help that the film is skipping frames. that made my eyes hurt to watch!

Reposting it here but that's just my own interpretation
Love that defies Death, I'd think.
To me, that's very Eurydice in the images and the musics it uses.

A dark ominous setting (and the theme is Akram Khan's Gisèle, Gisèle the ballet being a variation of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, )
Something like a body on a boat like Charon's, the ferryman of the Underworld that carries the souls
The alleluia part that is a chant sometimes used in liturgies for the souls of the departed, especially by orthodoxes.
The lovers' reunion and their escape.
And she dies since they did watch each other.

That's pretty much what I get. But it could be a variation on the same theme.
Arribert did her own little ballet with a libretto she constructed.

What I mean is, if I go by last year's Jr Nats results and this year's Masters', the fed might chose to base its selection on international head to head results, rather than by 2025 Jr Nats.

Last season, the FFSG chose Mouaden / Bigot for spot number 2 at Jr Worlds, when they were marked 22 points lower than Perrier Gianesini / Blanc Klapermann and 13 points lower than Ovsiankina / Rahier at Jr Nats, while their international scores said otherwise. The FFSG gave PG/BK the Winter Youth Olympic Games instead.
This year, things are going to get even more tense, competition and politically-wise.

Because their score at Jr Nats was bloated ?
While Fradji / Fourneaux and Mouaden / Bigot had scores that were in line with their international scores, the couples from Lyon Perrier Giannesini / Blanc Klapermann and Ovsiankina / Rahier (2nd competition together) had scores that were ... creative :rolleyes: .

Right now, there are 3 french centers battling for the top french spot.
  • Lyon : after being nearly killed by Gailhaguet, they lost their supremacy in french ice dance. Thanks to their new focus on development, Lyon is now back thanks to its strong point : its skating technique but its history and self-conception is to be elitist and monopolistic. Lyon doesn't like the competition.
  • Villard : 5 years ago, very few thought Villard would be at the level it is now. Villard is not elitist (meaning it doesn't cut off "those who are not good enough"). Compared to every other center, it lacks money and infrastructures but Arribert has organized her center to bypass these difficulties. It is quite collaborative and it now has acquired a size at high level that makes it impossible to ignore. And Arribert's academic background in choreography makes it quite unique.
  • Chalons : the loooooong awaited coming. 15 years of experimentation before Piton crossed the line of the novice level for the only thing that she's vying for : the olympic jackpot. It's a familial, malthusian, trimmed center with no background from Lyon (Piton's coach was Catherine Glaise, who started coaching at the side of Danièle Marotel).

There is no lost love between Lyon and Villard who is making an incredible come back from 2011 (when Arribert was considered untouchable and french skaters were forbidden to ask her for choreographies) and the competition is fierce. And Chalons is an incredible (and IMHO unstoppable) challenger. Both make Lyon freak out.
I think the fed is trying to split the competition opportunities between the 3 centers to avoid drama.
