I finished watching The Morning Show on AppleTV+. Overall I really enjoyed it but I thought the second season was weaker than the first. DIdn’t see the major event coming. And I thought the season ender was pretty weak. I see there is a 3rd season coming so I’ll resubscribe to watch it along with Ted Lasso.

I also thought Jennifer Aniston’s character Alex Levy was tiresome and just as much of a narcissist as the character of Mitch. So she would periodically annoy the crap out of me. Still, overall it was very good.

I started watching Netflix's Kaleidoscope and skipped to the last two. This gimmick of giving different viewers a different episode order made it impossible for this particular writer to give us something coherent and worth watching. It probably doesn't help that I keep falling asleep which also speaks to the quality of the show. I've watched things tired before and managed to stay awake if it was interesting enough.

Everyone gets the same last two episodes in order, the aftermath and the the heist. I still feel like I'm wasting my time by skipping to the end but I am going to finish it anyway just to see what the big mystery was in the actual heist part of the show.

Just save yourself the trouble and don't bother starting it.

I watched ten minutes of the first episode (Green) and realized it wasn’t for me.

I also quit S2 of Ginny and Georgia halfway through episode 1. I remembered how I hated Georgia and Ginny was so sullen teen all the time that it wasn’t enjoyable to watch.

I love travel shows and we just discovered Travels With My Father on Netflix. We absolutely love it and have cried laughing. However, it is highly not PC so be warned. It is not a typical Stanley Tucci travel show or even Anthony Bourdain in that regard.

Is this the Jack Whitehall series? Definitely nothing like Anthony Bourdain or Stanley Tucci. A comedian and his old, conservative dad go on road trips. Probably somewhat scripted, but quite funny at times. I watched it earlier in the pandemic, and it was just what I needed.

Yes, that’s it. I’d never heard of him or his dad. I wasn’t aware of it until Netflix showed a new season. They do a stint in Britain post-pandemic which is where we started as I didn’t see there were earlier seasons.

I like that “Three Pines” has four standalone mysteries but they do bleed into one another in interesting ways. Also the area in Canada where this is filmed is lovely and Alfred Molina I can see as Inspector Gamache.

Anyone watching anything on AcornTV? I’m disappointed in S08 of The Brokenwood Mysteries - very dull.

Darby & Joan (Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi) is cozy, but they’re trying way too hard to make 75-yr old Brown look like a tough guy, brawls included.

My Life Is Murder is still fun though, probably due to my great fondness for Lucy Lawless and NZ. The S03 wardrobe and sets are VERY colourful.

I saw The Menu tonight. It mostly takes place all in one room with people sitting at tables but held my interest and managed to build suspense. I didn't really know what the theme of the movie was supposed to be so I find it funny that one of my first comments is that a dining experience like that would be fun if people weren't so pretentious and self-important about them.

I liked it. There is a lot to process but it was worth watching. Again I was very impressed with the camera work in keeping the one room interesting. It was definitely an example of how less can be more.

It's streaming on HBO Max right now.

I loved all these shows.

I liked Darby & Joan. Loved the scenery. And yes Brown is showing his age, but that's ok.

Good to know about Brokenwood, have looked at it, but haven't watched.

I liked Wild w/Jane Seymour.

I watched the Madoff documentary on Netflix - very good. I had read some things and seen the miniseries with Michelle Pfeiffer. But I did learn some details that I did not know before. SEC really messed up - multiple times things were brought to their attention and they did the least amount or nothing.

PBS' "Tom Jones" will air on TBD (four part series) will air sometime in the spring of 2023
PBS' season 3 of "Sanditon" will premiere on March 19th
PBS' Marie Antoinette will premiere on March 19th

Netflix's Bridgerton, season 3 has been delayed due to script changes, most probably early summer
Netflix's "Queen Charlotte" a Bridgerton prequel has yet to provide a release date

I wish that PBS would bring back Victoria and/or World on Fire. It looks like we might get a second season of World on Fire at some point (https://interactive.wttw.com/playlist/2022/07/14/season-2-world-fire-coming), but Victoria seems to be dead in the water. :(

We just finished watching season 3 of My Brilliant Friend on HBOMax. All I can say is this show is brilliant, per its title, and rather different from anything else I've seen. My husband and I were both fascinated by it. Highly recommend it.

Disney's first animated drama series is on Disney+ now. There were a lot of Shakespearean themes and references. It is a darker show than you would expect from 1990's Disney.

Gargoyles

There are a lot of former Star Trek alumni in this and quite a list of other famous voices. The series met it's demise when Disney president, Frank Wells died and let to confrontations between Eisner and Katzenberg. The show's supporters left for DreamWorks with Katzenberg. Gargoyles third season ended up on a different station and time resulting in different broadcasting regulations.

I haven't made it to season 3 yet but I'm expecting a decline in quality from everything I've read. I'm putting this one out as a series that deserved better than it got and had promise before the executives got in the way.

Useless trivia for the day. They should actually be called Grotesques. Gargoyles shoot water from their mouths.

Vienna Blood has a season premier tonight on our local PBS. I like this mystery series; cast, setting and stories are good.

I think "Miss Scarlett" and "All Creatures Great and Small" also have season premieres tonight.
I should give them a try. I did watch the Christmas episode of “All Creatures” and I thought it visually beautiful filled with warmth.

I like All Creatures, though it's just way too rosy for me at times. But I enjoy it. I also really like Miss Scarlet and the Duke. I already watched season 3 on Prime.

I just got done binging CSI: Vegas season 1. It wasn't as bad as I was fearing. It wasn't as good as the original but it was decent. The main issue I have is with the writing. The main season storyline was completely ridiculous though.

Also, I thought Grissom (William Patterson) wasn't supposed to be on this show but he and Sara (Jorja Fox) were in every episode and in a lot of ways were the main leads. Patterson/Grissom won't be in Season Two but Catherine Willows seem to pop in and out.

Yes, I also fear Victoria is not going to return. "No current plans" is pretty much code for 'cancelled'.

I keep meaning to try Miss Scarlett - I'll get around to it eventually. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch 'All Creatures Great & Small' because I just can't imagine enjoying it as much as the original version with Christopher Timothy, Robert Hardy & Peter Davison.

I remember loving this show as a kid. I may give it a revisit.
