We started S1 of White Lotus last week and DH was out after two episodes. I enjoyed it and am now on to S2-2.

I was kind of disappointed how all the wealthy people essentially got away with bad behavior and the locals paid (I suppose pretty true to life). I see S2 headed down the same path. And Harper is definitely going to have a downfall, especially with all the alpha talk. I still thoroughly enjoy it and the warm locations are perfect when I’m in below zero hell.

Has anyone watched The Sinner?

It was recommended to me. For my purposes, season 4 would be especially of interest. Will it make sense if I don't watch the previous seasons?

I just watched The Glass Onion.
I love murder mysteries and I loved the first installment of Knives Out.

I thought it was absolutely ghastly. It had unlikeable characters and plot holes galore. I very clearly saw the "trick " in real time so there was no real suspense for me. Ultimately, I couldn't believe how crazy and stupid both the killer and the victims were. It was figuratively and literally a dumpster fire . I was so disappointed. I had so been looking forward to this one . :wuzrobbed

Yes, let’s hope the next installment is better than this. At another site it is receiving praise and I had a tough time believing we watched the same film.

Well, the one time I tried to watch Knives Out I fell asleep in the middle of it and really have no idea of who did what to whom. As for Glass Onion, I watched it yesterday; I get all the complaints, but for me it was great. I had just finished reading Emily St. John Mandel’s The Glass Hotel for a book club meeting and I liked it even less than I liked Station Eleven, which isn’t saying much. Glass Onion was just the silly distraction I needed, so, right movie at the right time, but on another day maybe not.

Happy Holidays to All!

We watched Glass Onion tonight. It was kind of fun, I thought. I haven’t watched the first one. Not sure if that makes it better or worse, lol. These kind of movies always seem to require you to not look too hard at things and just go along for the ride so that’s what I did.
I think for me it was "And Then There Were None" approach. That is one I've never liked from Agatha because the characters are so very unlikable. And there were certainly unlikable characters in the first film but I thought the mystery was very good. I thought this one had loathsome characters and was just a little bit lazy about the surprise. It wasn't much of a surprise because it happens a lot on soaps, tv shows, films etc... especially soaps. It is so very convenient.

It's funny. "And Then There Were None" is actually one of my favorites . The characters are all very unlikeable which is what makes it so satisfying to read and a total page turner. While the situation is contrived, the means, method and logic seem to actually come together.

What bothered me with the Glass Onion is that none of it made any sense.
For example there is no logical reason why

Miles wouldn't have immediately destroyed the napkin once he got his hands on it. It's completely illogical. It also makes no sense that he would have invited Andi to his party. I understand the idea that he likely wanted to hide the fact that he knew she was dead, but they had a very public falling out and trial. It arises more suspicion that she would have been included in the mystery weekend.

Speaking of the first victim
I personally found it incredibly stupid of her to send a group email with a picture of the napkin. Everyone had something to lose. She basically put a target on her back.
The second victim was just as reckless by showing Miles the alert. Again he was an instant target.

Then there was the trick which they stole from
Agatha Christie's "The Mirror Crack'd"
which also bugged me because
if the method of poison was a pineapple juice allergy .Miles could have chalked it up to an accidental death instead of histrionically pretending someone tried to kill him.
Also, was I supposed to like
Helen? because I found her obnoxious and paper thin as a character. I really couldn't get behind her trashing Liberace's piano and burning the Mona Lisa , because Miles still basically got away with killing two people. His cohorts turning against him didn't do it for me since they enabled him , were just as evil, and had all of the same blood on their hands. Furthermore, why didn't he try to kill them? He presumably still had the gun he fired earlier?

This installment just wasn't my bag. :shrugs:

Finished Jack Ryan season 3 and loved it! It isn’t gonna win any awards anytime soon but it was fun! Also saw Infinite staring Mark Wahlberg and it was meh!

Glass Onion was just OK. The actors seem to be having fun. But I far preferred the first one.

I'm watching The White Lotus and I just started the third episode. So far, everyone's annoying me. I hope I like it more as it goes on.

Just finished Glass Onion. Agree that the first Knives Out was better. I didn't hate Glass Onion but I probably won't watch it again.

I’m having a bad movie day. Struggled through Amsterdam and started Glass Onion but dropped out twenty minutes in. I could not commit to another bad 2 hour + movie. I can tolerate 90 minutes but I’m to the point if it’s over that and has bad reviews I just need to skip it.

We just watched Glass Onion and thought it was fun. The in-jokes and pretensions of the lead characters were as much fun as the murder mystery. We actually weren’t that amused by the first one, so chacun a son gout. It’s still a movie I’ll completely forget in a few days.

It’s not been a great year for movies in general.

I just watched it and when the credits came, I forgot the Among Us scene with Angela Landsbury and had to be reminded.

It was still fun and I especially loved Kate Hudson's last dress that she was wearing at the party.
That dress is just a hemline away from being an amazing skating costume. I’d love to see Loena skate that program!

I have boycotted all the Russian Nats programs but let myself watch Valieva’s Wednesday Addams EX. It’s wonderful. I really appreciate skaters with acting ability and she’s got it. What a waste.

It came up in my Tiktok. I agree. Great program but the whole war and drug thing left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Finally decided to get Paramount+ and watched first season of Star Trek:Picard. Now for season 2. So far I'm liking it, and really decided to watch for what (and who) is going to be on in season 3.

I just finished watching season 1 of The White Lotus and I kind of hated it. It doesn't help that Jennifer Coolidge generally annoys me. The characters were mostly unlikable. I think I liked Kai, Quinn and Belinda. The rest were awful. I know this is an unpopular opinion.

Is the second season better?

Jennifer Coolidge is still in it if that helps guide your decision. The rest of the characters are highly flawed people that aren't exactly likable similar to season one. My advice is that you probably won't like season 2 any better. Try an episode if you want to be sure but that's probably all you will need to make the decision.

I liked two people in season 1, Kai and Quinn. I actually liked more in season 2 but everyone had flaws just not absolutely awful. Jennifer is heavily featured but I found her storyline a lot more fascinating. I enjoyed season 2 more and I will post why under a spoiler. It’s generic but does give some idea as to the ending.

Season 1 the wealthy got away with bad behavior. Season 2 a lot of powerful/wealthy people didn’t. Season 2 made me feel better although Season 1 is likely more realistic.

I don't mind flawed characters. In fact, I usually love them! But my goodness, Olivia and Shane were just beyond awful. I didn't find any redeeming qualities in them. I just cringed when they were on screen.

I thought season 2 was better than season 1, so I'm taking that as a good sign for S3.

I'm on the record as saying how tired I am of watching things where I don't like any of the characters, and I keep hearing how horrible the characters are in White Lotus, so I have elected not to watch it for that reason.

I'm three episodes into Walker: Independence on Paramount+. I'm not a huge fan of Westerns, but this is more like a murder mystery, so I'm liking the story from that point of view. The characters are all pretty cliche, but it's growing on me.

So happy that there is finally an easy way for me in Canada to watch The Americans. Disney+ just picked it up.

I've been wanting to watch this for years but it wasn't easily available in my area.

Just watched episode 1 and loved it.

I even have my DH interested. It's rare we both like the same show. :cheer2:

You may like Brave New Worlds, too, although if you don’t watch the relevant part of Discovery you may be a little confused.

There were a ton of things in season 2 that annoyed me, but I loved the ending SO MUCH. I actually watched the season 2 ending not that long ago because I loved it SO MUCH. Looking forward to season 3!
