So which Julia is the writer and which is the chef? I mean in the Julia and Julia title.
I meant Julie in my post. I had "Julia" in my mind I think. Sorry for the confusion. Julie Powell is the one who grossed me out and Julia is Julia Child, the beloved chef, teacher, author, television personality.

It's confusing!

Talk about frustration, it looks like Shondaland has decided to jump one book and go directly to Penelope Featherington and Collin's
complicated relationship next, bypassing Benedict.
From Shonda herself, it looks like Bridgerton might jump to another sibling's story other than that of Benedict in season 3.

I finished Dark Waters. Maybe because I don’t cook or never bought a pot or pan in my life (I just took whatever my parents no longer use), but I knew nothing about the dangers of Teflon. I will never buy anything from DuPont. How impossible is that?

Also, in terms of legal dramas, I felt this had a good feel for it (although Mark Ruffalo could have easily gotten some support from some young Associate for all that due diligence stuff that would allow him to still bill on other files). It made me relieved why I don’t do litigation. In my view, Erin Brokovich was the most realistic in terms of the day-to-day functioning of a law firm.

Oh my GAWD!!!

Episode 8 of Mrs. Maisel.

Lenny Bruce, Abe, Joel, Mei SO good.

But Midge ugh…… :wall:

Luke Kirby deserves all the praise in that episode. Such good work.
ITA. I finally got around to watching this season.

I absolutely loved the pilot and first season of Mrs. Maisel. I thought season 2 was a disappointment but season 3 got better. Season 4 has been uneven with the final episode being my favorite, largely because of Lenny. They don't seem to know what to do with Midge, and the show seems to be getting sillier, especially some of Midge's decisions. But, Luke Kirby was great. And Alex Borstein is always fantastic.

Ah “Persuasion”—maybe my favorite Austen and I adore the ‘93 film. The Sally Hawkins/Rupert Penny-Jones 2008 version is on Britbox and I enjoyed this one as well. Penry-Jones is:swoon:.
Persuasion is my favorite books, too, and I love love love the Hinds/Root movie adaptation. All of the characters are spot on. ? The Hawkins/Penry-Jones version is good but I can’t with her running through Bath.

I also liked a lot of the supporting characters in the Root/Hinds film. Her sisters and father were so well played and so wonderfully awful.

New Star Trek series Strange New Worlds. Looks cool.
I am really looking forward to this. I hope it lives up to its promise, as I am really struggling with the most recent season of Discovery. It’s getting too bogged down in itself.

I used to prefer Mansfield Park but these days Persuasion is my favourite and the Hinds/Root adaptation is terrific. But I did enjoy the one on Britbox - agree completely about the running through Bath bit though. Rupert Penry-Jones is nice on the eyes - I first saw him in Spooks (MI5) which is also on Britbox, along with Whitechapel, which he is also in.

The Amanda Root-Ciaran Hinds Persuasion is the single best Austen adaptation of any of the books, any of the versions. For me it even beats out the 1995 Pride and Prejudice for #1. Persuasion is the perfect little jewel box of an adaption. Every role is perfectly cast and the story is beautifully told.

I’m not surprised at this as Nicola Coughlin
is currently 35 years old. They need to do that story before it becomes obvious that Coughlin is much older than the character she is playing.

Agree 100%.

I also like the 1983 BBC adaptation of 'Mansfield Park' starrring Sylvestra La Touzel. It's very faithful to the book. Anna Massey's Aunt Norris is a triumph of superb casting.

It came hard on the heels of the BBC adaptation of 'Jane Eyre' with Zelah Clarke and Timothy Dalton - in my opinion Dalton's best role. Someone in an iMDB review described it as the best adaptation of a novel ever, and I agree with that too. It's superb (yes, Dalton is too handsome for Rochester but he really inhabits the role and makes the affect of Rochester's haunted past come to life).

Re the Root/Hinds “Persuasion”: Was this ever in a movie theater? I knew nothing of it and found it at a time when I was using the library more—a hidden gem.
Ita about Dalton’s Rochester.

I never saw this movie, so I'll have to check it out. I recently rewatched the 1995 Pride & Prejudice series on a trip (I often watch it when I'm on a plane), and still love it as much as the first time I saw it. Even though I've probably seen it a dozen times now.

We're through episode 5 of Bridgerton season 5. I think I'm enjoying it more than the first season. The actress who plays Kate is terrific. Nice to see a more mature woman as the focus. And the country house setting of a few episodes was visually gorgeous.

Before this, we watched Dopesick. Total change of pace, but really good too. Very much can't-look-away, despite the sad subject matter (drug addiction in Appalachia, corporate malfeasance).

Re “Dopesick”— Micheal Keaton was so good in that. I also found the story of the two lawyers going up against major pharma, government agencies and the Sackler family one of dogged perseverance—even heroic.

Never thought about that because Coughlin still looks like such a baby. In the books, i believe that she does not tie the knot with Collin until her late twenties.

Wow, I would never have guessed this! She looks much younger.

I sometimes don't know what to think of Penelope as a character on Bridgerton. Collin either. The idea of a season focusing on them is interesting ... I don't know if I would get into it as much as the first two seasons? We'll see, I guess.

SPOILER[It could be that they may focus on more than one sibling during a season, i.e. maybe they focus on Eloise in the same season as the friends are so inextricably linked.]

Oh, this is an incredible adaptation. Timothy Dalton was amazing! ?

I wonder if Jane Eyre has the most film and television adaptations of any novel. It has to be Shakespeare for films based on plays. Maybe “A Christmas Carol” has more? It seemed like there was a new Jane adaptation every few years for a long while. I wanted to add that in the mid-90’s the writer for the Broadway musical Jane Eyre brought his cast to Wichita for his debut. I guess we offered a theatre and a way for them to work economically as they readied the show for NYC. I liked it though I wasn’t bowled over by it.

I feel the exact opposite. I preferred Season 1, partly because I don't think the actress who plays Kate is that good. I thought she got a bit better as the season went on, but her timing and pacing seemed odd at times, and I didn't think the chemistry between her and the actor playing Anthony was that good. Sometimes it was just awkward or very "soap opera."

Looking for instructions as to how.
In the options menu, next to Bold, Italics, etc. there are more options, if you click the three vertical dots you will see a little mask. You can begin & end your spoiler text with it. You can also use the spoiler code ISPOILER /ISPOILER inside of braces [].

By the way, I'm not that invested in the show, but I thought I'd mention your spoiler. Cheers.
