Ok I just finished season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale.

That last episode was all kinds of WTFery.

Where does this series go now?!

I hope Moira and Nick have bigger roles next season.

Ah Britbox! I binged Hugh Laurie's adaptation of Agatha Christie's Why Didn't They Ask Evans? yesterday. The stars are Ian Poulter and Lucy Boynton and they had good chemistry. So much crime in the English countryside! Actually this is a Christie book I have not read so it was lovely watching the mystery develop without knowing the solution to the question ahead of time.

I'll mention this here because so many of these films are on these streaming services: "The Ringer" (no paywall) looks at current and past rom-coms and picks their fifty best films along with greatest rom-com stars of each generation. It is interesting to see how they ranked these films. Now that they have looked at romantic comedies I'd love a feature about romantic films as well.

I’ve looked at that list of rom.coms and, sorry, but it’s not very good. The Ringer is ignoring all the great rom.coms of early Hollywood. Where are Ball of Fire, The Lady Eve, Palm Beach Story, or It Happened One Night, just to name a few.

Obviously, June is going to go back to Gilead to get Hannah out.

And at some, we may see a full-blown revolution.

That would be a big departure from Atwood’s next novel “The Testaments” that they are also planning to adapt.

Plus I think of June goes back to Gilead, they will lose a lot of viewers.

Yes they seem to start at 1980 instead of 1930. I like their top choice but I have different picks for top rom-coms. They might be in the Top 50 but at a different placement. But it is hard to think of a movie like "It Happened One Night" being left off of a comprehensive list. If they did the top 50 romantic movies I think they would have to start from the silent film age because there so many wonderful romances in the last century.

I except The Testaments will be named as such, and be a separate series.

Why?

June looking for - and probably getting back - Hannah is the logical place for the story line to go. Viewers want to see it. And it's going to be interesting given that Hannah has no memory of her mom. And there's plenty of opportunity for drama.

Developing the revolution/May Day story lines is also logical.

I expect two more seasons, don't know if they can stretch it out beyond that.

Not much development to be had, really, in the Canada story line.

Hannah is a key character in the Testaments in Gilead.

In other words, she can’t get out of Gilead and have the next series make sense.

SPOILER end.

Fans are losing their patience with June staying/going back to Gilead because it doesn’t make sense to the ongoing storyline.

They are? Do you have a source?

June has only been taken back to Gilead once IIRC - after she was caught at the farmhouse. But I think the farmhouse was in fact in Gilead?

I read The Handmaid’s Tale forum on Reddit.

June potentially going back to Gilead is not a popular potential storyline over there.

Just chiming in as someone who read the book in the early years and LOVED the first few series but really struggled with the later series, especially the last. I just don't buy it anymore and it would seem even Atwood agrees. The June that now exists and the world she exists in just doesn't make sense. I agree with Atwood that in the world she created a lot of these characters would have been shot by now, especially June(imo):

The Testaments was an interesting read though and definitely recommend.

Yes this is the sentiment on Reddit as well.

Plus if Handmaidens are “so valuable that they can’t lose any of them” why wouldn’t June and Emily (who have caused so much trouble) just be kept in jail and visited by the commanders to conceive?

The series jumped the shark when June liberated all those kids but wasn’t executed for that.

I think The Testaments will be excellent though. Time to start on that story.

Or like how valuable is one womb (because that is all they are to them) versus all the lost wombs she helps escape.
To me it just feels like they keep her in an infinite loop to milk more seasons of this show. It's time to put it to bed and move on to the Testaments. I mean again I LOVED the book and the early seasons that brought the book to life but when a longtime fan finds herself rolling their eyes and hating June you have to see they lost the plot...

I watched Anatomy of a Scandal on Netflix. I don't recommend it. So disappointing.

I'm currently watching season 2 of Sanditon and I'm enjoying it so far. I'm in episode 3.

The three stars playing former First Ladies in “The First Lady” are good but Michelle Pfeifer as Betty Ford is tearing it up on Showtime.
Also Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, Dan Stevens and Betty Gilpin are entertaining on “Gaslit” about Martha Mitchell during the Watergate era.
Both series have solid starts.

I definitely agree about Michelle Pfeifer and think she’s the best part of the show. I love Viola Davis as an actress but I feel like her performance as Michelle Obama is a misfire.

My fascination with a show like “Succession” is that the characters are loathsome and yet the show is still worth watching. The two leads in “Scandal” are also loathsome people and I couldn’t stay with them. I guess I didn’t care about the outcome. I think with “Succession” the adult children were so damaged by their awful parents that you do feel for them (a little.)

I can't stand Succession. They are all awful human beings. But it's a much better show. The writing alone... Scandal was just bad all around.

Metal Lords is a delight. I was wary as I am not a metal fan and I thought this might be a metal version of “School of Rock.” It is not. The three leads are terrific and there are some truly funny moments in this film. It captures the angst involved with teenaged years without turning into a Lifetime movie. One of the leads is a talented guitarist in life which is a plus. Even when one of the characters has insufferable moments you still root for him to learn to get out of his own way. Good stuff….Netflix.
I watched this last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked how they were very genuine about the music development and the fandom of the main character to the genre of metal music.

Nothing is really prominent. Some fans are tired of June’s story altogether.

I get the feeling many people want The Handmaid’s Tale to end now that June is free and The Testaments to begin.

Logically June has to get Hannah back and there has to be some resolution to the situation in Gilead, probably revolution.

Agreed that in reality, June and others would have been on the wall multiple times.

Sure hope that Anne Dowd continues to play Aunt Lydia. Her story was the most interesting one to me in The Testaments, and I love Dowd.

Lydia's back story in the series - that she was jilted by a lover and therefore became an aunt - was so weak. The story presented in The Testaments was far more interesting and powerful.

Or like how valuable is one womb (because that is all they are to them) versus all the lost wombs she helps escape.

The work in the writer's room got derailed a bit, that's for sure. Though I'm still enjoying it, in part because it's so spectacular visually.

And I'm not sure that Elizabeth Moss is up to fully portraying the person that June has now become.

Loving the new second season of Sanditon! There's the usual set of villains and naive new characters, while the existing ones become even wiser to the villains' tactics. One of the villains has already been revealed, saving a new character's virtue. Only six episodes long (sigh), Forbes has reported that a third season is in the works. While originally a British production, an American production company has taken the series over because of the demand from American audiences. :cheer2:
Happy for everyone but Charlotte at the end of season 2, but there is to be a season 3, hopefully rectifying the situation. I'll say no more so those who have not yet watched and want to come to your own conclusions.
