The whole movie had the feel of a documentary, and did not feel like a Hollywood film at all. I knew that all the players, and their coach were successfully rescued, but during the movie I was still on the edge of my seat wondering if something would go wrong.
Ron Howard really has a talent for pulling that sort of tension off. Apollo 13 was the same - already knew they got back safely but still somehow spent the film in suspense.

The Resort on Peacock continues to be my new favorite show. I haven’t seen if it’s intended to be a limited series. I’d love to see more from this cast, but I don’t know if they could extend the mystery another season.

The first two episodes of The Cut are up on Amazon Prime. There are a few really talented designers which make me wish I was 40 years younger in order to purchase and wear some of their accessible looks currently in the Making the Cut Store. :p

There is this adorable little documentary called “Inside the Mind of the Cat” on Netflix and it is so cute! LOL But I already know what is inside the mind of my kitties “feed us stooooopid!” :cat:

Oh, much more than that.

Cats must contemplate the state of affairs of the universe.

My Leo sits in the backyard for hours, contemplating.

Then he sits on the neighbour's roof, to contemplate some more.

Then he comes indoors, and contemplates a bit on the kitchen floor.

After a while he may resume his post on the window ledge in the living room, to both contemplate and get the general lay of the land.

Then he is tired, and must rest.

Rinse and repeat

I enjoyed the first episode of House of the Dragon but I think it will be difficult to become emotionally invested knowing the ends for each character and that…

they all end up pretty unlikeable. Rhaeneyra has a Daenerys like arc and gets a gruesome end. Daemon at least goes out in epic fashion

I didn't enjoy it. In GOT I thought Sean Bean and Mark Addy, for the short time they were there, were fantastic and led to a general fascination with the Stark children (and their direwolves), Tywin Lannister and Daenerys. And of course we didn't really know the lay of the land and the surprises in store. Now it feels like a retread: I found it dreary and the characters not nearly so magnetic.

I keep getting spoiled. Like watching a YouTube video that says "Things you need to know before watching" that talks about stuff in future episodes.

It makes it hard to know what I really think about the first episode. But so far, I don't like any of the characters. Not even the one I think we are supposed to be rooting for. Not a good sign.

Just finished watching the new documentary “Inside the Mind of a Cat” on Netflix. It’s currently the top in Kids & Family in the USA.

Very informative - for the total 1.5 to 2 hours per day that my ? isn’t asleep! ?

I was not a GoT fan but thought I would watch HotD and see if it was any good. It was fine but didn't grab me. I think my problem with both it and GoT is that I find real history much more interesting than fake history.

I find history fascinating as well, but I also love fantasy, which is what GoT/HotD is. If that's not your thing, I get it. But it's not "fake history." It's a world that's created by the author.

Also known as “alternative history” or “science fiction” when set in more modern, or technologically advanced, times. I love real history too, but I also find the ideas, themes, and thought constructs behind fantasy, science fiction, and alternative history to be quite fascinating at times.

I gave House of the dragon a try. I was bored (I did fastforward the butchering). Compared to the opening of GoT this was quite underwhelming. GoT drew me in immediately. The new Westeros series has way to much CGI. No characters to root for. For me it's more fan service than a intriguing story. Wouldn't spend money on it. Or time for that matter.

There is a documentary on Netflix called To be of Service about military veterans and their service dogs. It is worth a look.

I enjoy a good world-building. It can make up for a lot of other deficiencies. So I will probably continue watching. Especially as dh is into it.

I was a huge GoT fan, but was disappointed in the first episode of HOTD. None of the characters were compelling to me. I kept comparing the girl who became Queen to Daenyrus (sp?) and she came up wanting. Not that I should compare, as it's a different series, but I couldn't not compare.

Yes, a bit boring. Maybe it will get better as it progresses.

I watched a fun and thoughtful French comedy on Prime called “Flashback.” Charlie is a talented, 30 something lawyer and she is also a selfish, thoughtless human being. After she offers an appalling defense for an accused rapist she finds herself moving from one time period to another seeing the challenges women faced throughout French history. I liked the tone of this film. I liked learning about certain French events. You get the point but there is also plenty of humor. I wouldn’t mind seeing an American remake that would highlight the trials and tribulations of American women—with humor of course.

I have this argument with my husband. I'm not a fan of fantasy (so I didn't actually expect a lot from HotD), but I love science fiction. He would argue that science fiction is also fantasy becuae it's made up worlds but I see them as two distinct genres in the sense that sci-fi speculates on potential futures (some possible, some not so possible) whilst fantasy is all about things that can never be real (e.g. magic).

I was a big science fiction fan but then over the years the genre was overrun with science fantasy and it's just not my thing. I don't hate it all. But I prefer more grounding in reality.

(Which doesn't explain my love for all things Marvel.)

I like both but what I really enjoy is when a series can be called quirky. So "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" or "Made for Love" or "Resident Alien" is more in my wheelhouse. I liked fantasy more as a younger women and science fiction as I aged. I have no idea why.

I've always found sci fi a bit too technical for me. The sci fi I've read, that is. For example, Red Mars, Blue Mars, Green Mars. I couldn't get through it because of all the details about terraforming Mars. Although I found the premise, settling a colony a Mars, very intriguing.

OTOH I've always been a huge fan of fantasy - I mostly read fantasy, historical fiction, or mystery. Particularly the small genre of feminist fantasy. I'm not much of a literature fan (though do read everything Atwood writes). Too many years of being a literature tutor, probably. And Atwood did write a fantasy, Oryx and Crake, which is my favorite book of hers.
