"All My Friends Hate Me" takes us on a wild ride through friendship and the feeling that something’s not quite right – like there’s some form of gaslighting going on, where someone tries to mess with your head until you doubt what’s real. The movie sprinkles in this tricky theme, turning Pete’s catch-up with old college buddies into a real head-scratcher. Tom Stourton nails the role of Pete, showing us all his worry and confusion, all while stuck in a place that makes him feel more alone. Mixing humor with some mind games, the film gives us a fresh look at trust and fitting in, making it a cool pick for anyone who likes unraveling what makes people tick.

I saw Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret is a lovely adaptation of the acclaimed Judy Blume novel, exploring a young girl’s journey through puberty and identity formation. I thought it was well crafted and lovingly observed with great performances by Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates. A relatively short movie with a large cast, the movie developed each character quite well. I attribute that to the director’s and writers’ wide empathy for all people. I hope this movie will develop a large and devoted audience among tweens over the years.

I saw The Equalizer 3 recently and it was very good. Almost perfect, but then in last part of the movie there were a few too many over-the-top scenarios. Plus some plot points that were iffy. But the majority of the movie was amazing. Highly recommended. After the movie was over, one of my friends mentioned that this was the second move starring Dakota Fannng and Denzel Washinton. The light bulb went on in my head and I remembered Dakota in Man On Fire when she was just a little girl. Nice to see them on the screen again almost twenty years later.

When I looked last week at the box office, it looked like The Equalizer might end up in the red. But wikipedia says it's made 148 on a 70 million budget, so it's made a tiny profit with the production budget being doubled to 140 million for publicity and advertising. I wonder if North American box office numbers come in quickly, but international box office is slower with movie maybe opening at a later date in other places. Which could mean it might do better than just breaking even.

Has anyone seen the movie A man called Otto? It arrived today, as dvd.com is about to shut down. I don't have the time to watch it, so I may just return it tomorrow (9/28) unless someone here highly recommends it.

September 29 is the last day of dvd.com. If we don't return the dvd by that day,we are allowed to keep them for free. I was hoping to get a movie that I really wanted to see, but somehow Otto sneaked in.

I have The Post through dvd and I plan to keep it. I have been traveling so much that I had no time to watch movies.

Mr. Japanfan recommends the movie. I've never been a Tom Hanks fan, but he says just watch it, and let this be the film upon which you judge Hanks.

I thought it was just okay. I think I thought the cat had a bigger part than it actually did. If you watch it, be sure to watch the closing credits. They have a lot of photos that would be part of the story. Very nice.

It was awesome. I watched it last night. One specifically heartbreaking moment but I think you’ll really enjoy it.

An X-Men tv show would be excellent as they can go more in-depth with the characters and the working and personal relationships with one another. But of course, a tv show wouldn’t have the same budget and time/care of filming the way a movie series would.

At first I thought this movie looked stupid but then as the preview continued I thought it looked like a blast: https://youtu.be/DWB90Oz-7kA?si=2_3UbB7k1INlr6qp
The picture they have in the slideshow on IMDB's front page is a picture of Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill and he's holding her in a way that is so incredibly similar to Virtue & Moir's cunniliftus that it makes me chuckle every time I see it.

That aside the movie looks interesting, Sam Rockwell's character looks kind of reminiscent of his Mr Right character and he was really fun in that plus I love Bryce Dallas Howard.

When I first saw the screenshot of this trailer, I thought, "Oh...Jennifer Lawrence has a new movie". Now I'm wondering if they tried to make Dua Lipa look like her? Good cast, in addition to those already mentioned are Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Rob Delaney and Ariana DeBose.

Some trailers for movies coming out during the “Awards season”.

Napoleon - In theaters on (U.S.) Thanksgiving.

Ridley Scott. Joachim Phoenix. Napoleon. This looks GREAT!! 😀

Wonka - In theaters on December 15.

This looks good too! Timothee Chalamet! I think this is just one month after Dune 2 comes out.

Also - the rest of the cast looks great! Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa! 😆

The second Wonka trailer is now out.

Now I’m wondering if this Wonka will end up being MEH because the “whimsical” world in this trailer isn’t quite hitting me. But I’m more optimistic about the Timothee Chalamet’s Wonka compared to the Johnny Depp one.

Wonka is still scheduled to come out on December 8 🇬🇧 and December 15 🇺🇸.

I watched a documentary on PBS recently called "A Story Of Bones". It's about a woman on the island of St. Helena (which is between the southern part of Africa and South America. She is hired to oversee the building of the first ever airport on the island. But as excavation work begins, skeletons are discovered. The number eventually rose to between 5,000 and 9,000. St. Helena was a place where the deceased bodies of slaves were buried who died while enroute from Africa to the Americas.

This documentary is about how she and others try to get a proper burial for all these people. The movie starts off a bit slow, but is more impactful as it proceeds. I recommend it. The only type of preview I could find on youtube was this short 30 second clip:

We watched a movie on Apple+ called No One Will Save You. It's a thriller that turns into a sci-fi movie. It's about a woman (played by Kaitlyn Dever) who lives outside on a small town which we discover has shunned her (for a reason we find out later in the movie). One night she is woken up by noises downstairs. She sees a figure moving about. Lots of action occurs throughout the rest of the movie, which features very little dialogue (maybe none??). It's a well made movie, but at the end, my friends and I asked each other, "so what do you think this movie was about"? Wikipedia summarizes the ending, but I'm not positive that's what the filmmakers had in mind. Maybe if any of you see it, you could share your opinion. :)

I thought Killers of the Flower Moon was powerful. The performances from the whole case were amazing especially Lily Gladstone (Mollie) and Cara Jade Meyers (Anna). It was beautifully shot and I loved the attention to detail regarding the Osage customs, language, etc. It has a very long running time, over 3hrs but for me it didn't feel that long. I had to take a bathroom break and was surprised when I checked the time in the lobby that we were 2hrs in already. I do think for me some of the courtroom proceedings dragged a little tho.

I know it's taken some heat from Indigenous communities for the violence depicted but for me as an Indigenous woman, while it was hard to see it was also necessary. Sadly, those are the facts of the events that occurred and I feel like if they weren't included it would have felt glossed over and lessened the impact. I also feel the trailer and information that was released plus the "R" rating indicated it wouldn't shy away from the brutality of the crimes.

Some movie posts borrowed from the TV thread:

I just finished watching one of the stranger Cinderella versions I've ever seen. It's called Once Upon a Crime. It comes from Japan but is in English as well. Red Riding Hood is a detective traveling through the land and solved a murder at the time of Cinderella meeting her prince. It is a fairy tale/murder mystery/satire mashup all in one. I still don't know what I think of it. It was interesting to watch once.

@Buzz: The flower moon is getting eclipsed by Taylor Swift. Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” earned $9.4 million from 3,628 theaters on its opening day, a figure that includes $2.6 million in Thursday previews. The epic-length historical drama is now projecting a finish of $23 million over the three-day opening frame, tracking behind the second weekend of Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film.

I want to see the Taylor Swift movie. I don't want to be surrounded by screaming teens though. So I thought that I would go on the first showing on a weekday when the kids are in school. But then on the radio, they said that the movie is only playing Thursday to Sunday and maybe no matinees as well? Taylor wanted the movie version of her show to be as much like the live show as possible, so these restrictions were put in place. Now I think I might wait until it comes on DVD... :shuffle:

All hail the power of Taylor Swift. I'm actually kind of surprised by this. I would have thought Scorcese's newest would have had more box office oomph.

I would have thought that as well. Plus Killers Of The Flower Moon is playing all day, every day of the week (unlike how I just mentioned for the Taylor Swift movie). It's so interesting to think about how studios schedule their movies for maximum impact and then how sometimes their plans don't go how they hoped. Maybe Scorcese should have marketed both movies as the Killers Eras double bill like what happened with Barbenheimer.
