Press release today: https://skatecanada.ca/2017/10/laval-to-host-2018-skate-canada-international/
Skate Canada announced today that Laval, Que., will host the 2018 Skate Canada International. The event will take place at Place Bell, a new multi-purpose sports facility located in the heart of Laval, from October 25-28, 2018.
“Hosting this event at Place Bell is a crucial step in advance of hosting the 2020 World Championships and confirms the position of our city as a first-class destination for high-calibre sports events. It’s an exceptional opportunity to promote our city on an international scale, and we seize it with great enthusiasm,” stated Geneviève Roy, President and General Manager of Tourism Laval.

Weird. The Worlds announcement and banner clearly say Montreal and Bell Centre, and the mayor of Montreal is quoted in that one. Maybe Tourism Laval is just being a bit over-enthusiastic. Hers is the only reference to 2020.

How long before the Skate Canada International event do the tickets usually go on sale? It's been several years since I've been to one and I would really like to go to Laval. Don't want to miss the ticket sale.

I'm not sure how I missed this announcement the first time around but Yippee!

Have to try to work this into the schedule somehow....

Should be soon as I know we bought our tickets to Regina in December of 2016.

Just keep an eye on this thread or even better, the skate canada official twitter site as they are really good about using social media to blast out info. Or sign up for their mailing list as I got an email recently about single session tickets being on sale for Canadians in Vancouver before the public knew.

Place Bell has 10,000 seats which is a great size for world's in Canada. Also per these pics on the Montreal Canadiens' site, there are two adjoining sheets of practice ice, which I believe is a big deal for an international event.

The Bell Centre is 20,000 seats and hard/expensive to book. I can't believe that's where world's is happening....

The original World's announcement said Bell Centre, which was surprising given it's size, but I was excited by that because the hotel and food options in downtown Montreal are tremendous. Place Bell makes more sense given where Skate Canada has placed international and national events in recent years. I guess we'll get some clarification at some point.

I cannot believe that Canada cannot generate a decent crowd for Worlds in one of our major cities. Do we have to relegate events in places like London forever and ever? Boston sold well, and that's like an easy drive for people. Are New York and Massachusett residents afraid of crossing the border? Scared of the French? I am flying all the way from Vancouver and I refuse to believe that I will be the lone West Coaster.

It's the price. I didn't end up going to Boston but tickets for Boston were available for under $300 US whereas tickets for London were $1200, no matter where you sitting.

When I book for an event, quite often I'll book hotel, then get the tix. That wasn't possible for London as a lot of hotels said they were already booked. We tried. So, I didn't get tix as I wasn't willing to scramble for accommodation. I liked London as I'd been there for Cdn Nats, but the cost of the tix, hotel and airfare made it easy to stay home.

Tickets are on pre-sale! Just bought mine :)
Apparently the public on-sale will start on Friday, November 24, at 12 noon.

I just got a presale email for the event -- presale is until 11/23, 10pm EST, with general sale starting 11/24 noon.

I looked at the hockey seatmap: when I chose the $220 tickets, it kept putting me in section 101, mid-rink. The map shows a flight of stairs up the middle, so I'm guessing the judges will be across from 101, but I wasn't taking any chances, and ordered the $177 tickets, which put me in section 103 in a corner, which I prefer anyway.

I'm hoping to be able to take a week off and do the doubleheader, SA in Everett, then to Ottawa, then to Laval. Fingers crossed.

If there's any way for me to get access to the presale please let me know, thanks!!!

ETA - many thanks, I officially have my ticket. :cheer2: Also section 103 - I'm not a huge corner fan from past memory, but it's on the judges side and closest to the ice for under $200 that I saw.

Got my email too.

Have to say, the cost is quite reasonable; well before you add in the fees but not a bad amount when you think about it being a 3 day event--1 day of practice and 2 for competition.

I can't commit to buying right now as I'll probably be a work conference around the same time.

Damn it! Didn't get the pre-sale email

Can a kind soul pm me the pre-sale details?!? :drama:

I changed my mind and went ahead and bought tickets. Tentative plans are to fly to Boston and drive up with a friend. We've done that drive many times and its one of my favorite things to do, go through Vermont up to Quebec.

Perfect time of year for foliage too since fall has been coming increasingly later. :respec: My aunt came over during gymnastics worlds this year and bemoaned it not being peak yet.

I had a bunch of medical tests today and am just getting online now and see the tickets went on sale!! I signed up a few days ago for the pre sale but didn't get an email.
Could some one send me the details please?
