Laval, Quebec will host 2018 Skate Canada International

does anyone know if there is any place in this arena where viewing is blocked by one thing or another. i have never been in there. thanks

Typically on the judges/tech panel side, there are views partially blocked by the camera/computers on the platform. Even if you are to the sides, they often block the view from the same-side opposite corner.

Most people opt for the judges' side anyway. I go for corners with some rise, if they're available, or opposite the judges, even if you lose all of the special effects for the judges.

I cannot believe that Canada cannot generate a decent crowd for Worlds in one of our major cities. Do we have to relegate events in places like London forever and ever? Boston sold well, and that's like an easy drive for people. Are New York and Massachusett residents afraid of crossing the border? Scared of the French? I am flying all the way from Vancouver and I refuse to believe that I will be the lone West Coaster.

Worlds have been held in NHL arenas several times in recent years (Vancouver, Calgary, Los Angeles, Boston) and have been well attended, I can't imagine why Skate Canada would hold worlds in a 10,000 seat arena when there's a 20,000 seat arena across town....even if it doesn't sell out, isn't selling 15,000 tickets better than 10,000?!

Manhn, you won't be the only West Coaster there - I'm coming from Victoria.

Got my tickets, Section 103. I also booked using points at Hilton not far from the arena. It looks like the cheaper rooms were gone when I looked again.

Do you purchase tickets from the arena or from Ticketmaster? My friends and I are considering going to Skate Canada instead of Skate America.

Thinking of potentially going to this. Probably won't be buying tickets yet, a few things have to fall into place before this happens? What are the closest hotels to the arena? Does the arena have parking or is there parking in the area?

Worlds will be at the bell Centre in downtown from my understanding

That was everyone's understanding, until Skate Canada put out a release regarding Skate Canada 2019. That release said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that the Skate Canada 2019 would be a dry run for the 2020 World Championships, but the event is supposed to be held at Bell Place in Laval. There was no mention of the Bell Centre in regards to the World Championships and several of us have wondered whether the location for the event has changed or whether the original release regarding the World Championships should have said Bell Place instead of Bell Centre.

Are you planning to drive up?

If not, you won't need to rent a car so no need for parking.

There is a metro stop across the street from Bell Place and many hotels are near metro/subway stops. Not sure which hotel is closest.

Unfortunately the things that needed to fall into place did not :fragile:

I know this is getting slightly off topic, but from what I was told they looked into Worlds in Laval but ultimately decided on Montreal itself for a variety of reason including easier access/more amenities , more support from the city of Montreal as well as there is apparently a big conference happening the same week in Laval which will monopolize some of the hotels. Now things can always change, so it's always possible it could end up in Laval...

We already have our tickets. Not sure where, I didn't buy them myself - but we always get good ones. Glad that it's in Laval. I'll be able to tack on a couple of extra days in Montreal.

Any rumours on where '19 Canadians will be?

Just bumping this up to share that Air Canada has a seat sale for Montreal for Fall (Skate Canada dates included in sale.)

Book by end of day today May 31st (12 midnight MT) to take advantage of the sale.

Got my tickets! I don't know Laval but I live in Montreal if anyone is planning time off and would like some tourist advice :)

We are all set---tickets are purchased, VBRO apartment booked near downtown--we either drive or take the subway out to Laval, and I got my flights to and from Boston booked today. Looking forward to making the drive up through Vermont during late October; I have my fingers crossed that the leaves won't have all gone away by then.

So I guess all that is left is the announcement of what skaters are assigned. Should be a mix of old and new names.

I got my flights booked yesterday too.

Also planning to stay downtown and take the subway in.

Anyone else staying in the downtown core and planning on the subway, let me know. Maybe we can do the subway together.

I thought Laval was a suburb of Quebec City but I think I am getting the university of Laval mixed up with the suburb!
