Ladies Technical Panel at Olympics Conflict of Interest?

Now that Bradie Tennell has assured herself not only of an Olympic spot but as the US leader, should Evgeny Martynov be asked to remove himself from the previously announced technical panel for the ladies event at the Olympic Games?

The panel, which is the same that was used at Skate America, also includes Susan Lynch (AUS) and Jae-Eun Chung (KOR). Martynov, who is from Ukraine, is listed as the former coach of Tennell.

Also- this particular technical panel seemed to be extremely lenient with calls at Skate America. Whether that's because they were given the suggestion to do so after the <-fest at Skate Canada, we can't be sure.

I think Martynov should recuse himself.

About the non-calls on <, I think it is because this is the USNationals and they want to present the US ladies in a positive light, so the international judges won't have a negative bias. JMO.

They didn't seem very lenient with Karen and Ashley though. I think it's because they were lenient otherwise that they were chosen.

The technical panels for the Olympics were chosen a long time ago. Their selection predates Skate America by months; they certainly weren’t chosen as a result of their calls there.

No.

No.

I didn't know that. I knew judges and such were chosen, but someone on another forum said they chose the tech panels in December not too far from when they announced it, and used the competitions of this season to sort of test them out, which is why all the tech panels consists of groups who called together at previous competitions in all disciplines.

They've been known since before the season even started, so I think they were probably chosen in June or July.

You mean publicly known or just known within the ISU because nobody here knew who was going to be on the tech panels until that document was published like last week or at least nobody discussed the actual panels until then and now.

AFAIK the first of it being announced to the 'public' was when the Turkish Olympic Committee posted some link with all of the panels/judges. But within the ISU, it has been known for much longer.

Ah. I just remember when the pool of judges (well the countries) were announced months ago. When did the Turkish Olympic Committee post the link with all of the panels/judges? Was that the same document I was talking about in my previous post?

Speaking of the technical panel ... I don't know if this is in the Kiss & Cry threads or even made the broadcast ... but daaaaayum. Ashley was super, duper rude to the technical specialist on the podium when he tried to shake her hand for congratulations.

Go view your own skate first, gurl!

The tech specialist is the wrong person she should be mad at as he (and the rest of the panel) tried to help her with all of those calls for Karen (and level 3 spins in the SP for her and level 4s for Ashley) and ignoring her UR 3T on her 3/3 in the LP.

She was super pissy on the big screen, and not-even-trying-to-hide-it aggro rude on the podium. He even tried to say a few light words to him, and she still gave him the pursed lips and the eyebrow shrug. Hmph.

The draw for Olympic judges/officials was done at Nebelhorn Trophy.

Why is it in a world where we make fun of the Presidents hair, allow ignorant overpaid football players to disrespect the National anthem and all who died for our country, and give a family of whores a long running television program do we expect a woman who just had her dream crushed by mostly biased judging to be all gracious and smiling. If I'd been her I would have told him to f-off.

But Karen Chen got 4 UR calls.

I’m an Ashley fan, I understand the passion, but to call any women whores while trying to defend her is disgusting.

As to the topic, officials have withdrawn before due to a perceived conflict of interest.

In 2014 I believe an ice dance tech panel member withdrew because her son qualified for the men’s event.

I’m talking about the Skate America panel, which will (as of now) be the same at the Olympics.

Well because it's been done many, many times before; I mean being a gracious loser and not taking your disappointment out on random people on national tv. Shouldn't that be part of a true champion? Losing graciously when things don't turn out the way you want them to, instead of showing off your bad temper?

Not to derail this thread again, but I went and watched the medal ceremony expecting something super rude but Ashley was fine. She shook his hand, listened to him, smiled and nodded. There was nothing sarcastic about it as far as I could see and she kept her composure the entire time on the podium rather than slouching and sulking about her placement.

Surya still holds the record for podium sulks. Ashley seemed perfectly reasonable...and a whole lot more composed than I would have been . Coming in fourth at the pre-Olympics Nationals --just like in 2014 -- had to be her absolute nightmare.

Agreed, she clapped for Karen, was very gracious towards her competitors when she came out and was gracious towards the presenters.
