To me the words "his young friend," (used to refer to the victim) say it all. There is a clear bias towards him -- affection even -- on the part of the tribunal.
I am appalled. Having talent should never be considered as an excuse for poor (and in this case illegal) behaviour. Yet another example of the how much sporting prowess is valued in Australia. This is not an isolated example of sports people being treated favourably in comparison to others, and at the expense of victims.
“While the tribunal accepted his sexual relationship with the girl was objectively inappropriate and unlawful and that he remained insensitive to that fact - it found he was unlikely to repeat the same behavior again.” Seriously this is disgusting. He should be banned for life.
Truly can’t get over how insane their reasoning is here. This is literally just “idk, he said he won’t do it again and we want to believe him, so let’s roll the dice and hope for the best.” Except that the dice are children and statistically there’s no good reason to think he won’t continue preying on them, especially since he just got a free pass on it.
