Joshua Farris: Not Allergic To Gold - the Uber thread!

Awesome news! I think at the Nationals where he won bronze, it would have been gold if he hadn't put in an extra jump (toe?). Glad to see he's making a comeback and will be in the mix for Olympics.

Hmm. I don't think he would have beaten Jason, but I think he would have definitely stayed ahead of Adam and gotten the silver. I have wondered why the he and Christy/Damon would plan for a 3Lz-2T in the second half of that program and not switch it with the 3F-3T he had in the beginning.

The silver lining is that he has (I'm assuming) permanently learned about Zayaking - which he proved with his 2015 Worlds LP. He made the same 3F-2T mistake in the beginning but he did a 3Lz-1T instead of that planned 3Lz-2T. That learned lesson probably kept him in the top 12 and he may end up benefiting from that - next season.

So, this shows that you never know what happens when you learn your lessons and pay attention afterwards going forward. Who says you can't learn life lessons through figure skating? ;)

He would've won. The base value of a 3z-2t with the bonus is around 8 points. He was only 7 points out of first. I'm looking forward to seeing him win his first national title in the next few years. :)

Exactly! He would have had a point more than Jason (I was happy for Jason). But, now they will both have Nathan Chen to contend with as far as points earned for jumping passes goes.

Sorry, but much as I love Josh, by my calculations he still wouldn't have won if he hadn't zayaked. You can't just add the 8 points and be done with it; you have to remember to subtract points elsewhere.

Under the 2015 rules he could have changed his layout in two different ways in order not to zayak*, but either way, he would still have scored a little less than Jason (either 274.58 or 274.91, versus 274.98). In order to win, he would have needed plus GOE on the second combo. I went back and watched it, and since it wasn't very well executed, IMO, it's unlikely he would have gotten it.

Under the current (2016) rules, he would have gotten credit for the 3z in the zayaked combo but not the 2t. However, I think he would then have gotten +REP on his final 3z, which would have been worth only 70% of its base value, so he would only have scored 272.60.

*[Basically in order to avoid zayaking under the 2015 rules, he could have done one of two things: (1) left the 3 jump combo (3a+2lo+2t) intact and changed the (3z+2t) to (3z+1t) OR (2) changed the 3 jump combo to a (3A+2lo) and left the (3z+2t) combo intact.].

If you're in a timezone that's awake, a reminder that #GiveJoshLove starts in a little over half an hour!

BIG thanks to @HeatherC for filming Josh's performance to "Give Me Love" at the Skate It Forward benefit show on May 6 in Columbus, Ohio! https://youtu.be/IjxeNBt6_6E

I've posted a bunch of links related to the show in this GSD thread: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/in...efits-galas-2017-edition.101166/#post-5068836

ETA:

It appears his official website is still in the process of being re-designed (next event listed is Parker Pennington's Skate Dance Dream Performance Camp in Mentor, Ohio on July 16, 2017): http://www.figureskatersonline.com/joshfarris/

Re-posting from GSD:
Josh Farris announced his programs for the upcoming season
(+ there's a Q&A on his new website http://joshfarris.figureskatersonline.com/ice-time/ )
He is keeping both programs from the 2015-16 season, choreo by Buttle
SP: “Give Me Love” by Ed Sheeran (also from 14-15 season)
FP: “Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi
Josh Farris [Q&A]: “My goal right now is to train and just enjoy it”: http://figureskatersonline.com/news...goal-right-now-is-to-train-and-just-enjoy-it/
New website: http://joshfarris.figureskatersonline.com

A big part of me thinks Josh should have a new SP. With his choreographic talent, it should not be too daunting- though I completely understand that returning to competition is very hard, and I will be grateful for whatever he bring to the ice.
I always love his interviews- his turns of phrase and thoughts are never cliches.
I am keeping my expectations aligned with his expectations- one step at a time and it just would be great to have him skating.

Skate Dance Dream tweeted:

We regret to inform all of you that Joshua Farris is unable to travel & be part of the SDD Camp in Mentor, OH due to medical reasons. We wish Joshua a speedy recovery & we hope to have all of you cheer him on later this year for a chance at an Olympic berth!

"Unable to travel due to medical reasons" makes me terrified he hurt his head again. Starting my round-the-clock novenas now. Can't this poor guy ever catch a break????

Somebody has to have info on this. I hope it isn't anything major. But it doesn't say he isn't able to skate due to injury. It says he isn't able to travel due to medical reasons. :(

I don't think it's useful to speculate on Josh's current condition, please.

Naturally we all are concerned and hope it's nothing serious, but only Josh and his immediate circle are privy to his current condition and that's the way it should be. Stepping off my soapbox now...

Misdiagnosis renders unnecessary suffering. If I continued to get dizziness and headache a year after concussion and my doctor said I have PCS and I need to stop training and travelling, I'd send him the article.

And speculation about skaters' personal lives also renders unnecessary suffering. You have no idea what is going on. None of us do. For all we know it could be as simple as a cold (that is my hope). It's not our place to try and force Josh into talking about his medical situation and it's certainly not our place to try and diagnose him on nothing but your speculations!

If Josh wishes to tell us, he will.

I was so looking forward to Josh coming back. Sending best wishes and keeping my fingers crossed! Please skate gods, give Josh a well-deserved break!
