And the warm-up is underway for group 1 of 4. With the random draw, last week's winners are in Group 1.

I wasn't paying super-close attention to the first group, but yes, KempEliz skated quite well. The first Chinese team, Hu/Wang, were messy - she fell on the SBS 2a & they only had a throw 2f. Dion/Cote, the second Canadian team (who skated first) were decent for a team that is just up from novice. Also didn't pay any attention to Cohen/Vochozka since I was looking for the non-existent results link to French Masters.

Davison/Borisov - biffed the SBS 2a - she wound up with a 1a; and he stumbled over his feet on the landing of the 3tw as he set her down; lift was good; SBS spins aren't anywhere close to being in unison; throw 2lz was okay but not much distance.

Ted apparently emailed Mark after practice yesterday and said they looked really good, so I wonder if they're ever going to be able to put it together in competition. Ted's remarking after the program that they don't look like they've done enough run-throughs & they've been dealing with limited practice ice due to a rink closure & having to practice in the evenings. Hmmmm... I wonder if their training mates, Moss/Galbavy have had similar problems. We'll see how they do later on today.

Polman/Renoldi - 3tw - messy; SBS 2a - wildly different entrances but they stood them up; throw 3z - decent; good lift; not sure how I feel about pairs teams using "Shine On You, Crazy Diamond" - it's as slow as any generic soft rock/emo ballad around; and the switch to "I Got You (I Feel Good)" is a choice. There were some nice elements, but they should get their money back from their choreographer.

Jarmoc/Witkowski - 2tw - nice; SBS 2a - she flipped out and put a hand down on the landing; throw 2z - okay; good lift; SBS spins - some unison issues but they were close together; BIDS - only a L1 & definitely an element that has massive room for improvement. Not too shabby. I'd have them in 2nd ahead of the Italians.

Apparently the lift call of a triple was "called back" and became a double.

Apparently the lift call of a triple was "called back" and became a double.
Yes, I already corrected my post. I thought it was a double in real time, so I was surprised to see it called a triple on the TES tracker.

The ice is being resurfaced after 2 of 4 groups.

Krebs/Trofymov - 2tw - okay; throw 2lz - decent; SBS 2lo - she fell; BIDS - nice; SBS spins - unison was good on the camel, but they got off as the sit progressed; nice lift to end on. Lots of issues & messiness, but they have a nice quality to their skating & I think they have some potential.

Quattrocchi/Lacasse - 2tw - very nice; SBS 2a - sketchy landing for him; lift - alright; throw 2lz - okay; the rest of the elements were fine. Cleaner than both PolRen and JarWit, so I expect they'll slide ahead of them with around 50 points.

Heckova/Valky - 2tw - decent; SBS 2a - very nice; throw 2lz - okay; lift - fine; missed the death spiral - big red X in the TES tracker. Well, that happened.

Liget-Latus/Fisher - 2tw - okay; throw 2lz - decent; SBS 2a - fine; lift - quite nice, steady movement over the ice for him; BIDS - okay; SBS spins - not much unison to start with but improved as they changed positions; overall not too shabby.

Yudin/Rossi - 2tw - nice height; SBS 2a - good; really wonderful presentation to Elvis' "Fever"; oh dear - lift fail; throw 3z - weird takeoff in the opposite direction; now the music switches to "Burnin' Love"; good BIDS; apart from the aborted lift that was rather enjoyable.

Moss/Galbavy - 3tw - alright; best speed of all the teams apart from KempEliz; SBS 2a - she had issues with the rotation; throw 2f - hand down on the landing for her; lift - nice; there's a lightness to their step sequence that really fits the music; BIDS good; SBS spins - more distance than optimal & not the greatest of unison. This should easily go into 2nd. Expect their score to be in the mid-50s unless that 2a is downgraded.

ETA - yup, looks like they lost some TES on review, likely because of her 2a.

Wilberforce/Berei - 3tw - crashy landing; SBS 2a - meh; throw 2z - okay; BIDS - decent... What is this cover of "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You"? lift - decent; SBS spins - distance between them drifted wider when they changed positions & not great unison; her dress is a baby blue and would be great if not for the charcoal ombre around the hips that makes it look like it got stuck in the spinner of an older washing machine or had was left in an oil patch at the mechanic's shop.

ETA - Ted says the 2a was downgraded to a 1a. Ouch.

Guo/Zhang - not sure I believe she's 14, but okay CFSA. 3tw - good; throw 3f - huge; SBS 2a - great; nice lift; BIDS - very nice; SBS spins - in and out of unison but okay for the most part. TES is higher than KempEliz and this will definitely challenge for the lead, IMO. If some of these Chinese junior teams can make it to seniors, then Chinese pairs will be back in top form by 2030.
