JGP #1 Riga LAT - Women's SP & FS

Okada

nice 3r with speed, 3f-3t, she jumps awfully close to the boards, 2a out of edgework, nice transitions, good spiral, tepid camel spin position that caused combo spin to lose levels, 3f-2t-2r, a little hiccupy in the middle, but then got it back together

Okada really leaves the heavy artillery to the end of the program — two combinations and then a solo Lutz as the penultimate element.

The switch midway through to lyrics is a bit awkward.

Dibbern

Very sparkly handmaiden, 1a leaning way outside the circle, 3z-3t with no flow out, nice Charlotte-esque move, 3z-2a-2a, going for a lot of difficult content mostly successfully, think she could work on facial expression and getting more flow out of her jumps
I'm telling myself that she heard Benoit's weird explanation for Nina's program last season and based her costume on that.

She's so young, looking forward to seeing her develop over the next few years!

Women's medal ceremony underway on live stream (Pairs medals will follow).

Very strong start in the opening elements, but lost some steam in the 2nd half of the program. A skater in the image of Lara Naki Gutmann, and hopefully there is more unusual, and quirky choreography to come.

Solid skate, but some issues with rotation. Not sure that the music really helped her performance, but maybe it helped having a calm piece of music to complete the jumps.

The combinations in the 2nd half started to get a bit sloppy, but some good elements through the program. Very pleasant skater to watch, and she's got a sense of presentation, and musicality that hopefully will be developed in the coming years.

Beautiful skater with elements like the spiral, and the falling leaf in the choreography sequence. The errors on the jumps really holding her back in both programs this week.

Lovely quality to Angela's skating, and presentation. The risk of having all the combinations at the end of the program didn't pay off this time.

I was thinking at the beginning of the program that we don't see a lot of Titanic programs, and I think that's because most skaters don't have the ability to match Celine Dion's power. Unfortunately that was the case for Yuseong as she got buried by 'My Heart Will Go On' at this point in the season.

ISU interview with the gold medallist:

Looking at Sherry Zhang again today. Lovely skater. Hardly get to show it; trudging from jump to jump. I know that`s the way of the world and some make it look seamless. But, today I`m missing 6.0 times, a spiral sequence and different styles of choreo.
