Pairs starting now:

I took a flexi day with the plan of doing some deep cleaning in my flat but I’m watching my second junior pairs event of the day…

Are Mark and Ted getting a bonus every time they say “Vison 2030”?

In case Ted hasn't mentioned it on this stream yet - he only arrived at midnight last night. I wonder if he got caught up in the Air Canada issues?

Well, I accidentally slept through the first group.

Loewenherz/Loewenherz - not much improvement since I last saw them skate a couple years ago.

Zhang/Feng - nice 3tw to open; throw 3f - huge; SBS 2a - nice; SBS spins - not terrible unison; lift - very confident; 2 elements to go & their TES is already 2.5pts higher than Liget-Latus/Fisher, who have the lead, lol; step seq & death spiral - fine. This program will lead by a lot, deservedly so; though I will say, their presentation is fairly non-existent.

Liget-Latus/Fisher and Davison/Borisov both clear improvements since last season.

Heckova/Valky messy skate but loads of potential. Need more creepy fun for the Addams family.

Loewenherzes same as always.

Zhang/Feng still look a very young team. Super strong elements but all business. I’d like to see more expression and connection between them as they grow and get more experience.

WilLew - 3tw - decent; SBS 2a - good; throw 2f - hmmmm, okay, but... death spiral - excellent; SBS spins - way out of synch on the 1st position, but pretty good unison for the rest; step seq - some unison issues here & there, but nice presentation; lift - very good with a different exit right into their closing position.

Apparently they, like Ted, had massive travel problems due to some delayed flights - got stuck overnight in St Louis, then the same thing happened in Atlanta. At least they made it!

McDanFelb - 2tw - solid; SBS 2a - okay-ish; throw 3f - two foot, crouched landing for her - didn't look fully rotated; lift - very nice; DS - ooked okay to me; SBS spins - no unison on any of the positions at all; this music - "Breathe" by Tommee Profitt - is terrible; step seq - didn't pay attention because I was looking at their ISU bio.

Also - she's definitely channelling Alexa in her look, lol & he looks like a young Chris. If she was a blonde, the resemblance would be uncanny, lol.

Williams/Lewer - So many tangos this season, but this one didn’t feel too stereotypical. Elements not as strong but I enjoyed them more than Zhang/Feng. Novel lift dismount - think it will be a dramatic ending but a bit awkward today, looked like she was accidentally throttling him.

McDanold/Felderbaum - Messy but they look thrilled. Is he the guy who briefly skated with Isabelle Martins the first time she and Ryan Bedard split up? Nice to see Timothy LeDuc in the KnC.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure he's new to pairs just in the past couple seasons.

watching the first group -

Liget-Latus/Fisher - definite improvements since last season; 2tw nice; throw 2f - air position very open, meh; SBS 2a - okay.

Heckova/Valky - lots of messy elements & I don't feel like they've made nearly as much progress in the off-season as one expects from junior teams

Davison/Borisov - ditto my thoughts from HecValky.

Mark mentioned having recently watched video of Shen & Zhao in Washington from Worlds 2003 and getting teary - I confess to the same emotion when I was there in person, especially having seen her unable to walk at the practice rink earlier.

TelCoul - 3tw - messy; throw 3f - two-footed & she turned out of the landing very fast; SBS 2a - nice; they're skating to "I Love Rock & Roll" and I'm not liking the junior version of HocKun they're trying out this season; lift & SBS spins - messy. Overall, definitely underwhelming especially compared to what we know they're capable of.

Romane is really upset, poor kid. They were really fun last year and made an impression on me, they certainly didn't meet expectations this time unfortunately.

KempEliz - 3tw - beautiful; SBS 2a - alright - he was a bit swingy on his landing; throw 3f - well done; death spiral - decent; lift - fine; SBS spins - good unison; step seq - need better speed & pacing to match the music's increasing tempo ("Succession" soundtrack). It's nice to see them competing healthy. This should lead, IMO.

Kemp/Elizarov - fab throw. Looking more mature this season. A bit cautious and slow but it paid off, nicely done. Finished ahead of the music but at least they held the pose.

Not super impressed with the interpretation of this music so far. Otherwise they did pretty well. Hopefully they can have a healthy season, I think they could dominate the junior pairs field!

Chen/Dong - tiny baby team. Surprised they can do a 3 twist but intentional Lv2 lift. She’s a little kid with a lot of presence and they manage to look at each other on the ice so I can see potential in presentation as well as technical elements.

Chen/Dong - they're skating to the "Cruella" soundtrack in case you didn't figure that out from their costumes - his shirt has a small triangular inset on one side of his collar in a Dalmatian print; her skirt is dark grey ombre-ing into white one one half with a larger Dalmatian print, red underskirt & Korean bling on the torso. 3tw - alright; SBS 2a - she fell; throw 2f - open air position, meh; death spiral - decent; lift - not many rotations, but well executed otherwise; rest of the program was fine; but they'll not contend for the podium here.

Kviderova/Klement - he looks like he's recovering from a black eye, lol; 2tw - okay; SBS 2a - decent; throw 2f - open air position for her but good speed throughout; lift - he needs work on that element - his free foot was jumping all over the ice; SBS spin - alright; step seq - good energy. Not too shabby - they have a natural dancey quality to their presentation; lets see how they continue to develop.

Kviderova/Klement - I guess they’re quite new to pairs. They’re quite loose and wild and they don’t have the base value but there’s something engaging about their skating. Mark enjoyed them a lot more than Ted.
