Starting a new thread with this pertinent post by @kwanfan1818:
Aymoz and Grassl have only one slot of championship points before the Olympics, so each will get full points for Euros. Both have a shot at catching Britschgi, who can earn a max incremental 344. Aymoz is currently 106 points behind Britschgi; Grassl is currently 444 points behind Britschgi and 338 behind Aymoz. Miura is 74 points behind Grassl and can earn an incremental 438 at 4C’s which he could very well win, but even a win puts him out of reach for 6th.

Since Sato, currently in 5th, isn’t going to 4C’s, he could be caught by Aymoz with 4th or above. Neither Britischgi with incremental points, or Grassl with full points, can surpass Sato.

It's ridiculous that Alysa Liu, the reigning World and GPF champion, is ranked 5th, behind two other U.S. women that she has consistently beaten over the past year.
Well, she has no points for the 23-24 season. It actually is quite a feat that she managed top 5 in less than two seasons. It's also a good spot for her, since she won't need to remove her skates after her six minute warm-up in Olympics short. She'll be skating first, second or third in final group.

Is it possible Gubanova and C. Kim score enough points at Euros/4CCs to bump Alysa into the next-to-final group?

Edit to add: Pinzarrone too?

What struck me is that it wouldn’t be surprising if the pairs finish at the Olys in exact order of their world standings. Minus the ineligibles like EfiMit and the Juniors who won’t be there.

Dance on the other hand, even minus the Interlopers, is not going to finish in World Standings order.

I think it’s remarkable She even places that high. She has twoish years of zero points.
Only two of the three years scores count for all but internationals, where four/six count, with 2023-24 points factored at 70%.

Levito is the only US woman with the full set of slots. Glenn is missing an international slot. Liu is missing two: a championship (*70%) from 2023-4 and an international slot, but her win at Worlds last year is 87 points more than what Glenn earned at 2023-4 and 2024-5 Worlds. The difference between Glenn and Liu is 338, which is most of the difference of a CS or Senior B points. The difference between Levito and Liu is 260. A CS win or silver would have had Liu over Levito.

The US women are all within 338 points of each other. Gubanova in 6th filled all slots, then Chaeyeon Kim and Nina Pinzarrone (missing an international each), Bradie Tennell (missing a 2023-24 championship and an international), and Lara Naki Gutmann (all slots filled).

Liu is in 5th because no one below her has done any better over the last three seasons, even if Liu had no points from 2023-24. No one can catch Liu with a win at Euros or 4C's.

Bumping this thread back up with Euros happening this week in Sheffield - copying over @kwanfan1818's posts in the 2026 U.S. Nationals forum in kiss & cry:
For Z/K, the only way it will impact their starting group in Milan is if these three things were to happen without them skating at 4C's: 1. Smart/Dieck pass them at Euros, which is likely since they only have to drop 126 points in the best 2/3 2. Lajoie/Lagha compete at 4C's and pass them and 3. One of Davis/Smolkin, Turkkila/Versluis, or the Taschlers win Euros, the odds of which are so slim, they defy gravity.

Starting order is another thing, if the penultimate groups are split in two -- I don't think that happens, and I can't look that up right now -- if they end up lower than the 8th they are in now, ie, 9th or 10th, and there was a split, they'd skate first or second, rather than third, fourth, or fifth.
Torgashev is currently 23 on the WS list, but six skaters above him will not be in Milan: Brown, Tomono, Yamamoto, one of Rizzo/Memola, Sanchez, Tsuboi. Seven if the Estonia Fed does not choose Alexander Selevko.

Without any movement after Euros/4C's, that would put him in 17th (or 16th), or the third to last group. He would have to drop 131 points against those earned at 4C's, were he to skate, earning incremental points for 18th place or above. Were he to skate well, he would/should pass Livintsev, and possible Hagara and Vasiljevs, more likely Vasiljevs, because Hagara only has to drop 284, while Vasiljevs has to drop 447, and that's before taking Vasiljevs' slump into consideration. Those results won't push him into the penultimate group.

The Men below Torgashev, should he not compete, can pass him mathematically at 4C's or Euros:

Samoilov: 5th or above
Kim: 6th or above
Jin: 8th or above

I can't find whether the German Men's selection has been done; if Gartung has a passport, etc. Whether or not it matters, Gartung needs 7th or above.

The Estonian Men are relevant if Mikhail Selevko (needs 10th) or Levandi (needs 9th) are chosen instead of Alexander Selevko,, although those results for at least M. Selevko are definitely doable.

Competing could protect him from dropping to the second group, because only two/four (or five if Gartung is in the mix) need to pass him for that to happen, or three/four or three/five if Alexander Selevko isn't chosen.
ETA:
Doh, I just realized that if I could check 4C's and see that Gogolev isn't skating (and can't surpass Torgashev), that I could check Dance, and none of the three Olympic-bound CAN teams are competing.

So Zingas/Kolesnik should be safely in the penultimate group in Milan, whether or not they skate [at 4CC].

In response to kwanfan1818:

At ISU championships and Olympics, all groups are split into two subgroups for the draw, per Rule 520.
By competing at Four Continents, Z/K could stay ahead of Smart/Dieck, which would ensure that Z/K skate third, fourth, or fifth within penultimate group of Olympic RD.

Yes, but we still need to keep an eye on the Euros results even if ZingKol do compete at 4CCs and move ahead of both SmaDie and ReedAmbru in the World Standings because CarPon are sitting in 6th. If SmaDie finish 4th or higher in Sheffield they will move ahead of CarPon in the WS; and if ReedAmbru finish 5th or higher in Sheffield they will move ahead of CarPon in the WS. The chances of BOTH of those things happening is pretty low but not out of the question this week.

So Gubanova gets 551 WS points for her 5th place at Euros today, which would replace her 529 in the ISU Championships column and therefore gains her just 22 extra WS points? https://www.isuresults.com/ws/ws/wswomen.htm

Euros/4CC WS points 1st-6th: 840 / 756 / 680 / 612 / 551 / 496 / etc.
Yes, but it's enough to hold off Gutmann and Pinzarrone from bumping her out of the final SP group for the Olympics.

Next week is going to be particularly interesting for the women vying for a spot in the penultimate SP group at the Olympics.

Chiba is set for the final group.

Right now, with Euros points added already, the penultimate group consists of:

Gutmann 3281
Pinzarrone 3210
Petrokina 3207
Schizas 2495
Hendrickx 2477
Schild 2473

Right behind them, though, are the following women competing at 4CCs:
Lee 2344 - bronze or better moves her ahead of Schizas, Hendrickx & Schild
Nakai 2289 - 15th or higher moves her ahead of Schizas; 14th or higher moves her ahead of Hendrickx & Schild
Shin 2172 - bronze or better moves her ahead of Schizas, Hendrickx & Schild
Samodelkina 2041 - 6th or higher moves her ahead of Schizas, Hendrickx & Schild

It seems pretty likely that Nakai will bump Schild out of the penultimate group. Hendrickx & Schizas have to be hoping that Bradie or Sarah can keep the Korean women off the podium, and Hendrickx needs to hope Samodelkina is blocked from 6th by the very strong American, Japanese & Korean women.
