The rink in Grenoble that is set to host the French Grand Prix has been closed until further notice due to the spike of *********-19 cases in France.

The tweet has been deleted and regional press + FFSG issued articles today to specify that Grenoble ice rink was currently closed for works, not because of C0vid. I was wrong in my first post. (Or I wasn't... Keeping it closed until GP is a good way to keep it C0vid free... I don't know...)

My suspicion is that it was closed due to C19 and they decided to take advantage of that by doing repairs.

Whether a rink was closed due to YNW or not would be public knowledge based on whatever the locality's regulations were requiring.

The rink's website also shows it is closed for repairs/work.

My suspicion is that it was closed due to C19 and they decided to take advantage of that by doing repairs.

Swimming pools, ice rinks and sport halls are closed to the public in red zones due to C19 and Grenoble is in a red zone. Only elite athletes are allowed to keep on training there. But Aymoz told me he was back in Courchevel because Pole Sud was closed. So now I assume it's true some works are being done, otherwise he wouldn't move up to a totally desert ski resort. Courchevel is a ghost town off season.

Can i please make an argument that this beautiful place is not quite the ghost town, there are mountain bikers, and tourists who come to the Aquaparque and few other attractions, like free air-gondola rides to the mountain tops, and hiking trails, and some more.

The NHL created bubbles where all of the players stayed, and they were tested multiple times.

So can they not just test the skaters, coaches, judges etc and create a bubble for a weekend? Its not like its for an extended amount of time. I guess the only issue is having skaters tested prior to arriving and then when arriving, the incubation period wouldnt show up until after the event ends.

Considering the French open are going on in Paris, France seems quite open to allow holding professional events in red zones.

But I'm not sure how many other federations will send their skaters into an risk area. The French gp certainly seems the most risky, because it would actually have skaters from other countries traveling there.

I read yesterday that the French open players are not in a bubble like at US open, but just staying at regular hotels with tourists and other people (that was in an article about Alexander Zverev who apparently played with a fever and breathing problems without bothering to inform anyone )

But there's not much point in speculating right now.

Can I please make the argument that everything closed down on Monday August 31 and will reopen on December 5 ? Aquamotion is very very closed, so are all the skilifts, via ferratas, mountain bike parks/trails and the hiking trails as it's been heavily snowing above 2.000 m for one week.

I have to drive up there on Thursday to meet two French skaters and we'll be lucky if we find a bar or "boulangerie" to go and have coffee. I'm planning to bring my hot drinks and my food as the only grocery store open has very short opening hours I'm used to visit Courchevel at all times of years and I promise you it's a real ghost town up there in the spring and fall!

Yes, it is. Honestly, I will believe that ANY of the GP events are happening ONLY when skaters actually step onto the ice. The 2nd wave is surging and we could all be back in lockdown anytime. I'd love for there to be skating to watch this season but, OTOH, I don't want a single skater from anywhere to take any unneccessary risk.

Rich assholes, movie stars and New Zealanders desperate for a holiday are already being prioritised over stranded Australians desperate to get home, or to visit dying relatives overseas, and if FCC looks for a second like it will bring in money and/or make Gladys and #ScottyFromMarketing look good, it will go ahead even if we’re in the middle of a lurgi tsunami.

Yes, it would be sad if the competition is postponed or cancelled.

But completely appalling if the federal government risked everyone's motivation to do the right thing and rid the country of this virus simply for the sake of a skating competition.
