Fiona Bombardier is the only skater on the subs list for Canadian Jr women who doesn't have one yet, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her get the last spot.
Yes and she was fourth at the NextGen competition, which seems to be the primary criteria being used to give out assignments. Seems likely. Will be curious to see is any new subs are listed when the ISU entries are udpated.

I hope so too, for Clare. Remember that Clare won bronze at this very JGP event a year ago…but that was minus Team Japan.
Right, the Japanese athletes were out last year, and the Russians are out this year so it's pretty much a wash as far as the depth in the ladies field.

I thought Clare did pretty well relative to expectations. It sounds like she had a bit of a rough summer? Kim hit the triple axel, and Klavjuvere had a knockout performance in the free skate to just edge out Clare with the missed combo. It was good final flight, really. A lot of clean skates!

(I confess I fell asleep in the middle of the ladies' event. Could we please put a little more peppy music into ladies' skating?)

Tom Wehrle, who was the director of the JGP broadcasts from 2014-2021, posted this really cool time lapse video celebrating his experiences over the years traveling to the JGP events.

Tom Wehrle is the brother of Amber Wehrle Kole, former U.S. senior pairs skater with Nick Kole. The nephew mentioned in the video is Amber and Nick's oldest, Mason. Tom's work on the JGP and before that his excellent backstage videos from U.S. Nationals demonstrated an understanding of skaters' experiences, a perspective lacking in most coverage of skating. It's a shame the ISU "went in a different direction" with the JGP!

If anyone would like to leave a note of gratitude for Tom Werhle's work - he also posted his 9-minute video on his Instagram account last week: https://www.instagram.com/reel/ChnGqJNOsHw/
He replied to a fan's question in the comments as follows:
I know I’m biased, but from what I’ve seen so far, the production quality has taken a hit. But to answer your questions, I don’t know the actual reason why…no one at the ISU has ever said a word to me about any of it. I was just informed in mid June they choose someone else. And no, I don’t know who it was. One of my thoughts when making this, after looking at all the pics/vids over the years was that for someone else taking my job, this is there 2014…hopefully they make the most of it 😉
Tom's the bald guy standing in the back of my 2019 Lake Placid JGP photo :):

It will be great to those of Canada's Nextgen Juniors who are going to be on the JGP for the first time! So many young, but talented skaters!

I am excited to see Dana Sabatini-Speciale / Nicholas Buelow compete in Armenia for Junior Dance. Last season they did really well - 3rd at Skate Canada Novice Challenge and 2nd at Skate Canada Novice Nationals. They competed at the NextGen Competition for their first time Junior in July and came 5th out of the 16 teams -- scored a total of 136.92 . I live streamed it and they were really good! They also just competed in another Ontario comp and came 1st with a total of 147.85 . Dana has a youtube channel with their performances from 2021/22 Nationals and videos from this year's Junior competitions so far, for anyone that wants to check them out! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Xo_GEWvqZcY5Ys00GKZ7g/featured

It will be nice to see Canada's top junior team Nadiia Bashynska / Peter Beaumont travel and compete with one of Canada's top new junior teams! I guess Skate Canada is using Bashynska / Beaumont as mentors for Sabatini-Speciale / Buelow -- I think that's a good idea!

I think I saw a social media page for Sabatini-Speciale / Buelow, but I have to find it again, so I'll post when I do.

I am also excited to see David Bondar in Armenia. He skates out of YRSC (formerly YRSA), with the same coaches as Roman Sadovsky, so he has a good training base! I have not noticed Bondar's name at the top of the standings much in the past few years, but he did very well at Novice Nationals last season and is doing well so far in Junior!

I was able to find social media accounts for Canadian Junior ice dancers Dana Sabatini-Speciale / Nicholas Buelow.

I forgot to mention that this team trains at Mariposa School of Skating with former ice dance Olympian Mitch Islam (partner Alexandra Paul). Dana represents Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club and Nicholas represents Barrie SC.

Smart move by the French fed to move Fradji/Forneaux from having to face Canada's #1 Bashynska/Beaumont and USA's #1 Neset/Markelov in Armenia.
Yes, this field at Poland 1 gives them a strong chance for a win, which should qualify them for the JGPF.

More new Georgians: Gracie Vainik / Yehor Barshak in dance. He was on the JGP for Israel a few years ago, she competed at US Nationals with Daniel Brykalov, who now skates for Azerbaijan.

I see from updated ISU bio, they are coached by Shpilband/Camerlengo.

I am glad to see Hiro Yoshida tweet this series of comments yesterday (especially the 3rd one that I've bolded below & since re-tweeted): https://twitter.com/patinaggio/status/1563670585221255169

Really hurts to see some of the hateful comments posted about the #JGPFigure skaters on social media. What is wrong with people? This is the highlight of their careers for some of the skaters. Why does anyone feel the need to ruin it? Do they get pleasure from that?

People should realise that it might be a joke to them, but it affects the athletes mental well-being. If you do it intentionally you are the lowest of the low.

It’s wonderful to be the winners or a medallist. However each skater has their own objective when competing and each skater deserves respect for that. It’s why #JGPFigure means so much to the all the young skaters.

Remember that these skaters are teenagers. If you can’t find anything nice to say, then perhaps you should remain silent. If you can’t do that, then you are just a bully and you should be ashamed of yourself.
Mark Hanretty's post today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CiE6JRmqTN-/
Congratulations to ALL of the skaters and their teams competing here.

A major accomplishment to compete in any @isufigureskating competition - huge respect to the skaters getting to experience the pride of representing their country on this international stage.

Swipe to see how passionately I feel we should support all of these athletes.
No time for keyboard warriors and I urge those who thought it fitting to post negativity towards any of the athletes to seriously reconsider spreading bad vibes! ☮️✌🏻🕊

For those without Instagram, it looks like Mark used (in his Instagram post) this clip of his commentary that a fan made (he also re-tweeted it): https://twitter.com/tegomass/status/1566099219768901632

ETA that Mark replied in the comments and the original person who tweeted the clip also thanked him:
"Thank you so much for putting out that message!!! and thank you so much for dedicating some time on researching some of these junior skaters prior to the event 🙏✨"

Did a bunch of junior teams withdrawal recently like today from The Grand Prix event that’s about to start tomorrow? There’s only six teams now, I thought the there was like around 10 or more before last time I looked

50% of the teams will get a medal this time.

I don’t know anything about the two men who are competing for the USA. What can anybody tell me about them? I’ve never heard their names

No, there's only been 7 pairs teams until a couple weeks ago when it dropped to 6.

I do not understand why Yampolsky and Soho Lee have two assignments sight unseen. What happens if they bomb their first events? Particularly for the men who may not have enough second assignments to go around anyway.

Maybe due to having won the U.S. Junior Cup in Milwaukee in July? Michael Xie won the FS and placed 2nd in Milwaukee and he has a 2nd assignment now.

Re-posting her from the U.S. Men's thread:
As many of us hoped, Lucas Broussard has been added to the Gdansk 1 JGP (replacing placeholder Lucius Kazanecki) :cheer2:

Unfortunately Will Annis has withdrawn from Yerevan and has been replaced by Joseph Klein.
:) for Broussard (eta that his Gdansk selection is now confirmed on USFS' Assignments page). Hopefully Annis can get one of the later JGPs if he's healthy. This will be Klein's 2nd JGP... he debuted in Lake Placid in 2019 (with Malinin & Dunk).

It makes sense to get one assignment from doing well at the U.S. Junior Cup. But getting two from there seems to imply that doing better nationally is more important than doing better internationally, which is backwards IMO.

@her grace I'm just speculating here. I normally prefer that second JGP assignments go to the skaters and teams who meet established criteria that is known to all beforehand (placing top 4 in the first JGP has been used for the singles skaters in past seasons, for example), but that doesn't seem to be the case this year. The USFS officials on the committees who decide these things often change from season to season, which means the criteria for a 2nd JGP can change as well.

For some reason, Annis' name is still listed for JGP #4 in Armenia and Klein's name has not replaced him on USFS' Assignments page even though the change was made in the ISU entries earlier today (Sept. 7): https://results.isu.org/events/jgparm2022_JuniorMen.htm
