In Memoriam

:wuzrobbed So droll, dry, understated and funny: “The Bob Newhart Show” is 52 years old and I still think it is funny today. RIP
I was in my young teens. Watched it every week with dear Dad. Always got a laugh together. One of his stand-up lines: "I don't like country music, but I don't denigrate those who do. And for those who do like country music, 'denigrate' means to 'put down'.

Bob Newhart was iconic to me. I loved his dry humor. RIP to a legend.

Was also sad to hear about Lou Dobbs. This has been kind of a depressing week. Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Bob and Lou... ugh.

Bobby Banas, who appeared in dancing roles in several film musicals like "West Side Story" (as a Jet), "Mary Poppins" (as a sweep) and "Let's Make Love" (famously kissed by Marilyn Monroe) died today at 90.

Here is a video which went viral of his choreography on the Judy Garland TV show of the early 1960's to Shirley Ellis's hit "The Nitty Gritty" (he is the dancer with the dark floppy hair - in the group are Gina and Gus Trikonis who were also among the WSS film dancers).

The article in the link above contains a link to the original video from Judy's series - the link below is an edited version with the complete Nitty Gritty song.

I just was coming here to post this! I loved those books too.

On holiday a few years ago, I downloaded the Elizabeth and Jessica as adults versions of SVH. Great read,I will go back to them.
What do you mean?! They have books of them as adults?

I think I told my story about Billy Bean working in the off-season for a company I also worked for and thinking he should hang up playing baseball (he was still in the minors at that point) and get a real job. Boy was I wrong! :D

Whatttttt when. Why

I read his book is a 19/20 year old… Are you kidding me? I was in love with him physically and spiritually.

Are you kidding me? This is going to be a tough one for me to digest. I think I still have his book from when I was like 20 years old… I was in love with this dude. I need to read this now. oh my gosh, I’m in shock.

Wally Amos, who founded Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies, has died. I used to get little brown paper bags of his cookies from the original shop in LA, and they were so crisp and good. A few years later, he spoke to my marketing class, and his warmth and fundamental kindness were a big change from many of the high-powered Masters of the Universe types who usually came to the B-school.

RIP, Mr. Amos.

Wonderful actress. Gena is from the era where an actor brought a sense of realness to their craft and she certainly was at the top of that list. RIP💕

I love Peter Marshall! he's in every other old person's documentary and had his wits about him until the end.
