Ice Dance Technical Rules for 2016/17

So this means that the teams can reach a max base value of 33,3. That`s an increase of 3,6 points compared to last season. I guess Davis/White`s World Record won`t hold much longer in the Short Dance. There is also a very strong focus on step sequences in the base value. Interesting.

I won't speak for MarieM but for me, this is wrong if this is the orientation the ISU wants.
It's entertainment.
Fine.
But there are other options.
Some being closer to the original meaning of hip hop or truer to hip hop development beyond street culture.

That's certainly how I would interpret it. The last thing I would want is to do something and then have the judges say that it wasn't hip-hop as they understand it. That kind of thing would even happen on SYTYCD (at least on the US version), where a hip hop choreographer would choreograph a hip hop routine, and then Nigel would say it didn't "feel like hip-hop" to him. I felt like yelling, "WTF, Nigel"?

I don't get what's so wrong with those two SYTYCD videos...?
Because SYTCD showed diversity, and these two extracts are nothing really interesting IMO. They are so boring, it's not even funny.
And the ISU only showing them is so wrong.

That's the problem. Hip-hop is an incredibly diverse genre, but skating judges are some of the most conservative people I've ever seen. Who would want to risk anything with judges like these? I imagine anyone already crazy enough to try hip-hop this year will choose safe, boring, "lyrical" hip-hop choices.

Maybe a lyrical Bonnie & Clyde might be hard to picture for Cannuscio & McManus?
