I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

I don't wear too much makeup, but I never leave the house without mascara/light eyeliner. My eyes fade out without it. Occasionally I put on eyeshadow. I also wear tinted moisturizer to even my skin tone somewhat. Sometimes untinted lip balm.

That's all! I don't have the skill or patience for any more than that; I've never been good with makeup.
 
I spend at least 15-20 minutes on make up. Primer, tinted moisturizer with SPF, tightlining, eye shadow primer, eye shadows (usually 2, occasionally 3 shades) highlighter, brows, concealer, mascara, blush, EOS lip balm.

I've dialed back on bright colors and am wearing very muted shades of everything so with all that procedure I strive to look polished, not made up. For me the key is light-handed application and lots and lots of blending.
 
Depends on the day and what I'm doing. Work and church make up takes me around 20 to 30 minutes. Lazy day make up is around 10 to 15 minutes. I usually wear some type of foundation(most days), concealer, mascara, eyeliner, blush and lipstick/lipgloss. On work, church and speical occassions, I add highlighter, some brow products and correct to the routine.
 
I think it looks fabulous on most people (as I said earlier, I feel like a bad drag queen or the clown from "It" when I wear it); besides, I just sweat too much when I'm working, so my work "makeup" tends to be Burt's Bees lip balm...But I may start experimenting more on my days off, thanks to the glamorpussies here :)
 
I always wore makeup to conceal acne, which was a slippery slope because you can't just wear thick foundation (or at least I couldn't). A few years ago I had a phase where I was really into makeup and I learned a lot. I am not into it anymore other than vicariously, mostly because my skin cleared up and I got tired of the fuss. Also I got older and decided that IDGAF about what other people thought - I wasn't wearing it for me so goodbye. But I still appreciate lovely makeup on other people, or a little, or no makeup at all. You do you!

Nowadays, I will do just concealer and brow pencil for "normal day"; mascara, liner and a sheer lip for "people I care about will see me at a casual event" and the full monty for fancy dress parties. :glamour:

I originally came to the thread because I have over 1000 points on my Sephora card and I am wondering what freebies to get. Plus I get a birthday gift this month. There is no choice with that one but I was wondering if anyone else had gotten it and what they thought about it.
 
I was in a store and they reminded me that I hadn't claimed my birthday gift so I said thanks but no thanks as it didn't include anything I really wanted, so they offered me an alternate. She said it's what they give to men (the original choice was all lipsticks), but it was a nice set of skincare samples so I happily took it.

Worth a try if you are in-store.

I got it. I really like it. The pink pencil is a beautiful nude pink and the red one is to die for it is so gorgeous.

I even like it and I normally don't enjoy reds. I may even buy the full size in the fall and actually rock a red lip for once. Lol!
 
So, I am going to a concert tonight and thought, oh what the heck, let's try that red lipstick again. Put it on and I am still not sure. Then I ran out to the liquor store for wine for after-the-concert-hotel-shenanigans, and a guy ACTUALLY LOOKED AT ME, AND SMILED! :eek:
Holy crap that never happens. Must've been those flaming red lips of mine. :D
 
Red lips are fun, once you get over how red they are. Hehehe. It took me a few tries to warm up to it, I love it now.
 
I use the Lancome Base Hydra Glow under the Illumikate CC Cream--love the result!

Yes.

My friend has dark hair, blue eyes, and fair skin (ie. Snow White) and she loves the red NARS pencil too. I am fair skinned with light brown hair and dark eyes and it looks great on me and my mom also loves it and she has dark hair, olive skin, and dark eyes. I swear it is a shade that looks awesome on everyone.

I just got mine this week. I LOVE the pinkish/nude one and might buy it. I have not tried the red yet. Didn't seem like a color to be rocking at the hospital which is where I've spent the last two days.
 
They looked appealing to me too though I've never looked good in bright pink lipstick before.
 
I have broken my sephora fast.

I purchased the new Marc Jacobs full coverage foundation and it is simply fantastic. It has some mixed reviews on Sephora, but 80% of the reviews are positive. Mind you, I have dry skin with some normal areas and the foundation is oil free. So, I have to make sure I use a hydrating primer and moisturizer under the foundation. The foundation looks great on me. It is recommended to use a beauty blender or a flat foundation brush to get the best results. Also, I was given a sample of the new Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation(liquid). Another winner. Make Up For Ever came out with a Ultra HD stick foundation which melts into the skin. Sorry it took so long but here is what I consider a good tightlining tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHk3KD-PZyE One thing I do differently is that I don't pull up my eyelid. I am paranoid about stretching it. I tilt my head back instead but whatever works.

She gets down to business right away without a 15 min intro and shows proper technique. You want to use a soft-tipped, easy to apply and very pigmented product.

So when you tightline - do you also apply top eyeliner, or bottom liner or both and mascara? Just curious, I've never done it before.
 
I have to give a shout out to two products which have saved my life this week. The first is Batiste dry shampoo (the green one, strength and shine). I found this at Urban Outfitters and it's awesome. It does leave some white residue, so maybe this won't work as well if you have darker hair, though I now have black underneath my blonde and with some scrubbing, I got it all hidden.

I also bought Bed Head's Wave Artist, which is like a crimper on steroids. So you don't get tiny waves; you get full, loose waves. I have baby fine hair that doesn't hold anything, and the waves stayed in my hair all day, even when I was outdoors with freshmen in 2000% humidity. (well, it felt like it :P) I put the waves all over, spritz with texturizer and that's it. I didn't even use hairspray.
 
Yay for wavy hair! I am having more compliments on my beachy wave type hair this summer. I think this is the first time in my life I am actually in style, at the time of the said style! :shuffle:
