I have decided to go to Arizona

I don't think Max is going to the N. Rim. Usually people go to the South Rim.

The N. Rim is a lot quieter than the South Rim but not that easy to get to. It is a 7-8 hours drive from Phoenix. The scenery is different. It is also very beautiful but I have been there just once. It is closed from Oct to May and has fewer hotels, and they fill up very fast. That limits the chances to visit there.
Thank you! I am sorry that I mis-read Max's post, it's just that I have trouble thinking straight when the subject is rims!

I just got back from a roadtrip in my own state. This was somewhat unplanned.

I stopped in Sedona, which I have visited a dozen times. Then I drove to page for a one night stopover and from there I went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The N. rim is stunning, but i had no idea that they have no internet and no cell phone service. Also because of the wild fires the roads to most scenic points were closed, except Point Imperial. Got some great views from the lodge. Just being there made up for the lack of anything.

I returned to Page for 3 nights and took a couple of boat tours on Lake Powell. I was awestruck by the Antelope Canyons, which I had not seen before. I took an aeroplane tour to see the Horseshoe bend (thats how they advertised it) but they never showed us the bend. I was very disappointed. Will do the helicopter tour next time. I am not a big hiker and I heard the hike was pretty challenging. I tried to take a tour of the bend with a local company but they dont accept single tourists (require minimum 2 to make tour reservations). I am going to file a complaint with their chamber of commerce.

Stopped in Sedona again on my way back home. Drove over 1000 miles in 10 days. It was tiring but enjoyable. I was so happy to finally see the Antelope canyons and spend a couple of nights at the North Rim!

I satisfied my bucket list craving of visiting the Grand Canyon. I stood at the edge and said this is one thing I am glad I have seen before I died.

Agree with Monument Valley. Although from what I have heard it has changed a lot since I visited it 20 years ago.

I too visited Monument valley 20 years ago, but plan to visit it again. Will see what has changed.

I drove through Monument Valley this year and last. There's nothing there but nature so I'm not sure how it could have change.

I was told they had built a formal visitors centre. When I visited there were just huts.

While searching recently for tours, I discovered they have a new hotel View Hotel. It seems the tours start from there and not from Goulding's lodge anymore.

Well both time I was following two dudes on a bike so we only stopped to take pictures. And this time there was this tremendous windstorm with some rain and it was amazing! The cyclist got up to 58 mph due to a tailwind.

Anyway, I was thinking of the whole valley not just the Visitor's Center. It's not like going to Maui after a 20 year absence and finding it all built up with condos when before it was mostly empty fields. The vast majority of the place is still the valley with a road going through.

We took a tour that was organized and operated by a Native American (Navajo) community. I don't remember where the tour started from, but it wasn't a tourist center and we were a small group on the jeep.

Then we spent the night at a type of Indigenous dwelling called a 'hogan' (IIRC), which was offered to us by our tour driver. It was round in shape and the inside walls were log. I don't remember what the outside looked like, but it was a wonderful dwelling.
