This is supposed to be a really bad hurricane - and it’s expected to slam into Florida as a Category 4!

We were spared in PR, thankfully. We all have Maria PTSD. Our government can't respond well and the infrastructure is still fragile but we were personally prepared. Really prepared.

Now my sisters and cousins better be ready in Florida. It sounds like it's going to be awful.

My friend in New Smyrna Beach is trying hard not to eat her hurricane snacks early. She bought a little hand washer so she could wash underwear when the power is out. Snacks and clean undies. Priorities.

Sending prayers their way. I am listening to the AG of Florida. They are putting some things in place to manage gouging. They have apps for iPhone and Android so you can take a picture of pricing....ie water that was $10.00 a pack is now $15.00. Good for them!

The President announced that he will forego his trip to Poland so that he can be available to get help moving quickly to the places it is needed. Sounds smart. He has been speaking to the AG, and will be able to cut through red tape when needed.

We have food and water for a week and fuel for the generator. We need propane for the grill and that is now in short supply. I'll get up a bit earlier tomorrow morning and look for it then. Maybe I'll beat the crowds. Will refuel all vehicles Friday night or Saturday morning then secure all things at the house to wait this out.

Maybe we'll just get a glancing blow here, but the track seems to keep inching further south by the hour. We'll see.

Waiting to see what happens in the next day or so and if Miami gets shut down like it was 2 years ago at this same time. That storm, in the final hours, completely shifted and didn’t even touch Miami but the wind damage, at least here on the beach, was unreal. Most people here are very casual about it every time this happens, but a lot of stores are out of water and snack foods and I saw some stories this morning of gas lines being way down the street. Otherwise, most people are going about their business like it’s any other day.

Almost two years ago to the day, I was at WDW bracing for Irma (we left for vacation Labor Day weekend and then got stuck in Orlando until the following Monday) so I understand hurricane prep way more than a girl from Ohio probably should now, but I hope everyone takes this seriously and makes all the appropriate decisions to prepare themselves and their families. This does look like a bad one. One of the girls I was with at WDW for Irma is now prepping her house for Dorian but this time it's much closer to her home.

Update on Dorian’s path

The Bahamas........ ☹

For the U.S., it looks like it may make a sharp right turn - not hitting Florida directly - but the storm surge will still be nasty. It’s expected to hit the Carolinas as a Category 2.

Looks like it switched paths again and it’s coming towards southern Florida yet again.

ETA- I know it’s still expected to ride the coast upwards, but some of the latest warnings are just off the coast near West Palm Beach extending all the way down to just before Miami.

They’re evacuating low-lying areas in Palm Beach county. And it is the strongest storm on the planet this year. Jesus.

I might be wrong, but wasn't there a recent episode of a "beach hunters" or "island hunters" HGTV show where the family bought in the Bahamas? I just can't imagine what everyone there is going through. The fear alone (I HATE high winds) would probably scar me permanently.

I have an aunt and some cousins right in the line of fire; I know that my Aunt Rie has moved somewhere inland for the time being, but my cousins are staying put. They have the resources to travel, and have two teenagers; so I kind of think they are being foolish, but whatever...

I hope they move soon. I am watching CNN. They are saying that once the storm arrives, first responders won’t be able to rescue them.

Don Lemon interviewed a man on CNN and asked if he was planning to move. The man said no, this is my home. I don’t understand why people want to risk their lives. It is always better to err on the side of caution. JMO.

Found out last night that my cousin in Melbourne sold her house at the beach last week & moved to Minnesota over the weekend! Her timing has always been impeccable.

Still very worried about my Carolina relatives, tho. Their area is still reeling from the last hurricane.

Dorian is now a category 2 storm (not a hurricane?). Still people are being warned of the dangers.

Hurricane Dorian sideswiped the Carolinas with shrieking winds, tornadoes and sideways rain Thursday. At least four deaths in the Southeast were blamed on the storm.
